Just hitting the wires Apple reports Steve Jobs has died. The world is a lonelier place without you, rest in peace my friend.

not a apple guy myself

but my sympathies / prayers go out to his friends and family.

RIP

Amazing visionary, excellent businessman, and generous philanthropist. RIP Mr. Jobs

I have to admit that I am surprised, but he was battling this for some time. I guess the big clue was that he stepped down from Apple, if he was truly okay at that time, he probably would have kept going.

My condolences for his family.

Not an apple person, but the technology world owes you a great debt of gratitude for what you accomplished, thank you!

RIP

I don't really consider myself an "Apple guy," despite the fact I do own a MBP. Whether you liked the guy or not, you can't deny his contributed a lot to the world of computers and electronics. You might think some were bad, others good, but he had a vision and definitely had the ability to execute it.

Anyway, RIP.

Sad news. Hard to believe what such an affliction can do to you. Only 56 years old. With all that money you would think they could keep him alive forever... alas

Pancreatic cancer is still pretty deadly, unfortunately.

RIP Mr Jobs.

who was the reporter who got fired a few weeks ago for saying that Jobs died ?

better bring him back. that dude is a psychic.

on another note, Jobs did psychedelic drugs when he was younger.
the lesson from all this is........ if you want to be rich and successful, now you know which drugs you have to hit.

From what I read, he resisted traditional ways of addressing it for quite some time and instead tried to manage it with diet and holistic attempts. I tend to agree with that mindset but dang it's sad when they can't pull someone through a deadly affliction like cancer at such a young age.

Not an Apple person either. But you can't ignore the legacy he leaves behind. RIP

Don't think you need to be psychic to know he didn't have much time left. Clearly he loved running Apple and who wouldn't with the success he has had. He would have never quit if he hadn't been to ill to work. My guess is that he was probably to sick most of this year to have been much good to Apple.

Not all cancers are equal. Lung, liver and pancreatic are still almost certain death sentences. Most others are far more survivable.

Apple, Pixar, NEXT, Apple (again), it is insane what he contributed to technology and culture.

RIP

EDIT: Original post quoted by OP later.

Apologies.

Not a fanboy, but no arguing the impact this one man has had on the tech industry. Oregon Trail on an Apple II wasn't my earliest computer experiences but it was close. I never have owned an Apple product but I'm sure my life and career path was affected by my contact with them. RIP.

I am not a Mac user, but I am old enough to remember the Apple II debuting. Him, along with Gates, have changed this world forever. We would all have to agree, if it wasn't for these two men, our modern computer age might not have happened. We lost one of the greats today. We are in dire need of more CEO's like him. A man of vision, of ingenuity, and intelligence.

RIP Steve Jobs.

RIP Steve. He was truly the most innovative person of our modern time. He will be missed.......

Not to knock on Steve, but he was the opposite of a great philanthropist.

One of the first things Jobs did when he returned to Apple was to cancel all charity programs. Also, there is no evidence of him donating anonymously. Most of Job's wealth is held in public share holdings (Remember he only paid himself $1 salary), which the records show he kept nearly all of it. Just to top it off, the guy freaking abandon his own daughter to welfare.

Anyways, I don't like idolizing people for things that they're not.

I remember when I was 17, saving up like $300 to see a MacWorld Keynote speech just so I could see Steve Jobs live and in person. It was pretty cool at the time. I was also quite the Apple aficionado.

I think the company has taken a different direction than I would have liked. But Jobs changed the world. His influence on technology and the way people interact with it is felt far and wide. And the world has lost a man with an incredible sense of vision and the ambition and passion to make his dreams a reality. He thought differently, and it took the world 30 years to catch on.
