Rage sucks

Someone had asked for a link with graphical tweaks, this thread on steams forums has preconfigured .cfg files and i believe it goes into some depth on what does what.

It really is a night and day difference, give it a shot. I wish ID would just release an advanced settings tab under graphical options. I dont like the 'autodetect' my system stuff, theres no reason by default textures should load poorly on my system.

Thanks. I'll try this out tonight.

np, i wasnt happy with it either with default settings. I wasnt being overly critical but being able to see textures load that were 10 feet away from my character really annoyed me. This completely fixed pop in issues for me and increased the overall quality substantially.

This is what is sad. We the pc community has to fix it!

Will you stop with the constant complaining? Nothing said will change the facts but our actions can make best of what we have. You are not helping the situation at all.

Agreed, but really the same thing was done with Doom 3 and Quake 4. Alot of the advanced features are toned down or not enabled by default. I kind of wish someone would put together a quick tool that creates custom config files based on user preference, if by the weekend we dont see one maybe I'll put something together.

WHY DOES IT ALWAYS FALL ON US?

WHY DOES IT ALWAYS FALL ON US?

um, maybe because the devs figure pc gamers are smart enough to do such things, and they instead put their limited resources towards other priorities and console versions?

if thats the case then they should charge us half price since they are only doing a half-assed job.

I KNOW A FEW PEOPLE BESIDE MYSELF THAT WOULD LIKE TO GET PAID FOR THIS! This is John Carmack who inspired us!

LOL nice :D

Looks like I'll wait to pick this one up for aroudn $20 or less like I did for DNF and Crysis 2.

Thank God DXHR was decent. Or else I might be crying in my keyboard right now about the sad state of gaming. Here's hoping BF3, Batman, and Skyrim don't suck. :(

If these fuckers would only remember where their roots are from and what got them their first millions (hint = pc) maybe they wouldn't shit on us pc gamers for the almighty console dollar...

I could picture Kyle, Carmack and Yerli sitting down having a cup of coffee together talking about ...............................................

I would welcome that. We could do an event and have questions from the audience.

Showing this thread to reasonable gamers (PC and/or console, "Hardcore" and "casual") has generated quite a bit of amazement and befuddlement. Mostly ends in "Why exactly are they complaining about something no one forced them to buy?" or "Really? No wonder developers don't really care about PC gaming anymore".

I bought a product and it is sub-standard and there is no way to return it. But I would suggest you are correct, most devs don't care about PC gaming any more. Sadly, id still has one of the BIGGEST LAN PARTIES in the country every year and caters to PC gamers and has been talking this up for YEARS. They sold it to PC gamers and did not deliver.

I just read the front page "now that he has our $60" WTF DID YOU LEARN NOTHING FROM CRYSIS 2... STOP BUYING THE GAMES IF YOU THINK THEY WILL BE CRAP!!!!

I did not think id would give me this crap. I THOUGHT id was a company I could trust on the PC gaming side, obviously not.

Will you stop with the constant complaining? Nothing said will change the facts but our actions can make best of what we have. You are not helping the situation at all.

So you complain about complaining? The community needs to be vocal about this, period. Sitting around on your hands will get your nothing.

After reading through this thread, I think I have decided to buy this game.... in about a year when it is $4.99 on Steam and it is all patched up. Then again, maybe not. :(

I didn't read this entire thread, but I don't think I came across any positive comments on this game.

I am glad I don't care about early releases. Diablo 3 might be the exception....

I doubt anyone at id will be reading these forums, so we are merely comforting each other IMO.

I think the only way for devs to "get it" is for them to just not get any money for their crappy products. Or maybe we should all write them emails demanding our money back? I dunno... what ever REALLY works to get across to these guys?

Kyle has spoken he is a heavy. They will read his forum. Kyle is a standup man!!!

Agreed.... This is exactly why its time for 'next gen' console hardware to hit... Unfortunately the same thing will happen again in a couple years. It really imo makes more sense to develop for the PC and tone it down for the consoles than the other way around. People that buy pc games pay the price of admission when they spend 1500+ dollars on their gaming pc as opposed to 200 dollars for a console to play the games. As a developer you need to take care of them first because they will speak loudly if you don't.

We are gaming! period. These people need to understand that.

I was looking forward to this game. I was not going to buy it day one however it is an id game so I was excited.
I'm waiting until its $5 on Steam.
But seriously, the whole gaming industry is going downhill. I have not played a "new" game that I was impressed by it in a while now.
I buy the game and play a bit and then it sits on the shelve. Gone are the days of playing the hell out of a game until the CD is worn out.

Fully agreed, PC Gamers are and always have been the [H]ardcore of the group. They spend big money to play their games, and we have every reason to be angry when developers dont deliver. More importantly in this case, growing up I remember ID Software always setting the bar for PC Hardware for gaming from the Quake 1 Days on. I remember the first time seeing V-Quake a rendition verite, and later gl quake on a Diamond Monster 3d (coming from software rendered quake, what a huge upgrade, I miss these days). It's sad that ID has come to this, and focused on the consoles instead. This isn't the ID Software I remember.

I remember working all summer so I could afford new hardware for the next big thing, and as a kid i had a number of 'jealous friends' of the components I had in my pc because console games back then didnt hold a candle to PC Games.

It's really sad that things have changed the way they have. I havent turned my PS3 on in months to be honest. Im more or less fed up with the way consoles slowed game development and dumbed down PC Games altogether.

this reminds of an old movie called NETWORK. It has an infamous line that says "we are mad as hell and i'm not going to take this anymore"

I understood your point but after reading every post of the entire thread, you were just being a squawking parrot of RAGE. :p

LOL yes im sorry people, but this was the last straw as the saying goes. I'm upset and i'm sorry but not for a lack of reason. This needs to stop NOW. I feel betrayed.

Great pic Pandora!

Twenty odd pages later... after my first post on this thread, once again confirms this thread saved me $60.

... and yes I'd say PC gaming by CORPORATE Studios is pretty much dead on the PC unfortunately.

Now we have indie studios which make great games, but unfortunately their restricted budgets make their games look like games on my phone. BUT there is obviously a market for PC games, so I'm sure somebody new, with deep pockets, will step in the take advantage of this and make a profit while pushing PC gaming forward.

Just take a look at Valve, they did exactly that. Valve stepped in and made the Steam portal because nobody else had done it and marketed it properly. Now? Now they are raking in more cash than I'd wager they know how to reinvest in properly.

id has fallen big time, but somebody else will reap the benefits of their fall.

consoles, money, consoles, money, consoles, money, consoles, money...blah, blah, blah

I wish the game makers would also realize that not only do we fork out BIG money for the actual games but for some AAA games we upgrade to new hardware like graphic cards, cpu's, memory, etc...so it's not just the $60 but a major investment in something pc gamers love doing and look forward too. Until they shit consolized crap all over us and we realize just how much of a waste it really is.

well the game is fun, but like all pc games, I dont think it is worth 60 dollars. It is a very idsoftware like game, I am enjoying it.

Developing video games is a business and are in it to make money. Any good business will tell you that you need to carter to your largest customer base first which are the console players. It makes sense and it's great for business. You spending tons of money on hardware HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SOFTWARE SIDE. id does not make any money off you spend $500 for a video card. If anything it is costing them money to make sure their game is supported on that new video card. It is more cost effective to develop for console since you get a large customer base running on the same hardware. PC gaming will never return to the glory days. It's sad how many poor PC games it is taking you guys to realize this Crysis 2, Duke Nukem, Rage Etc... it's time to pull back the curtains and see the truth or stick to playing WoW...

I'm fully aware of the fact that a developer isnt making money off of me buying hardware, that wasnt the point I was making. And I also fully understand the gaming market is saturated with cheap consoles. What I dont understand is creating a poor port of a console game to the PC Platform. My point was, why even bother releasing a game for the PC if it's going to be inferior to it's console counterpart. Its an insult to people that did spend more money for better hardware. As much as people didnt like Crysis 2, it was better visually than the console counterpart. Same goes for Duke, it wasn't a great game but it looked better than its console counter part (and played better too).

Short, sweet, to the point.
