Rage sucks

Don't worry, I'm pretty sure they'll see the same behaviour from console players in 5-10 years when they start getting dodgy port of smartphone/tablet games. I can tell you right now it's coming.

LOL scary as it may seem but i forsee that happening :)

This will be the last time anyone takes Carmack seriously at all anymore. Hes a console sell out. Consolitis shill. His long streak of poor quality games after Quake 3 is not ending now and it probably never will.

you can't blame Carmack, he just makes the technology not the games. Problem is, he is ID so if he isn't the spokes person, no one would give two shits. He is the only reason ID is relevant at all. I sorta feel bad for him cause he will take all the blame.

I do blame him to a point. This is unacceptable. I would be embarrassed if it was me unless I truly didn't care as long as the checks don't bounce!

So I saw it on my buddy's rig last night and it does look like a big steaming pile of shit... I do not see much effort in this game.

Looking in the background of the celebration pic you can see copies of what look like a boxed set of WoW :p
Guess that explains what was distracting the devs... That said I'm not surprised this game was bad, whenever asked by friends I've always said that Carmack produces tech demo's and game engines seems like he can't even manage to do that any more.

I seriously doubt carmack just made the game engine and didnt have an impact of the game overall he if anyone is responsible its his work in the end.

Visually, one of the worst looking games that has come out in 7 years. Far Cry looks better than this. This game has the worst texture pop in, textures (we're talking Quake 2 / Sin quality, possibly low end Quake 3 here) I have seen yet on a modern game. Doom 3 is visually and gameplay wise superior to this game in every aspect. Absolutely no HDR or lighting, nothing modern. The desert has no shadows, nothing casts shadows it's all static.

do they still make Myst games for you anymore?

if you dig visuals maybe just go to a Desert or something?

I play games bc i like games, not bc they look pretty.

brb. gonna go rock out angry birds while i poo.

I played about 2.5 hours last night after work and got to the point I received my own buggy. Seems to me the POV is horribly limited but I suppose is expected on a console port. The textures are a bloby mess. There are what are supposed to be cisco phones laying around in some of the buildings and they are horrid looking. Gameplay isn't too bad, about what I expected from a FPS. I was a little disappointed you can't go off and explore to much - or at least every time I have tried I have been blown up or insta-killed via sniper or something.

Also is there no way to skip the dam opening scene - I had to watch that crap 4 times which is 3 to many. Nothing I pushed skipped it.

Look at the picture of the guy standing on the front page Kyle posted...To the right of him sitting on the cupboard are boots, I think a boombox, lantern, etc... Those are the most gosh awful washed out low rez textures I've seen since maybe 2000-2001. WTF...and I'm an ID fan!

You have to hack it to get rid of that crap. It is a cvar hack in this thread.

And to think we were upset over crysis2. What were we smokin?

He is partially to blame though. There's multiple failures with this release and the biggest one happens to be the engine. For once, the gameplay is carrying the technology. Designing for console and porting to PC fell on him and it was a mistake. Like someone else said, console players don't care about the technology, PC players do and they're the ones most let down by the engine failure.

Oh also - preformance. Game totally borked trying to do 5760x1080. Stretched it to all hell. In Windowed 1920x1080 mode at max AA with that GPU option on I got a solid 60 FPS on my sig rig. The texture pop was not really noticable for me. If I stood in place and spun around I would notice it right at the edges when I stopped but just walkin forward or running/driving I didn't have the issues many have shown.

I said it. I stand by my words. FAILURE

I just read the front page "now that he has our $60" WTF DID YOU LEARN NOTHING FROM CRYSIS 2... STOP BUYING THE GAMES IF YOU THINK THEY WILL BE CRAP!!!!

FFS :)

This is what I am hearing from ID:

Sorry PC guys, but there is no money in AAA single-player PC gaming anymore.

Dark Souls is awesome btw. I'm also sad to see PC gamers on this forum dismiss it because it's on console. A big title PC game hasn't delivered like Dark Souls (living up to its hype) in ages.
:/ I would give up every other release from the past year for Dark Souls on PC.

In a few days people will have solutions for most of what everyone is complaining about.

There is already a good FOV solution posted on Steam and Widescreengamingforums.

I agree there are some god-awful textures in this game......probably remind me of a somewhat improved Half-Life.

My biggest disappointment so far was the opening scene, when the guy steps out into the world, you see that beautiful vista in the background, but the textures on the railings and the platform are dull and detail-less. There are no dynamic shadows, no sun reflections, just no crisp details that you'd expext to see. It's like the game wasn't polished up before it was released.....it's a true console game, no doubt.......but I've seen better details in console games.......I'm lookin at you id boys..... I'm not going to hate on this game, I haven't had a chance to play much, but I'm just going to have to wait and see what it looks like the more I get into it.

The game itself runs fine for me in 5670 x 1200, an unwavering 60 FPS without Crossfire. I think my system was using only my 6970 and the 6990 wasn't even running.

I hate to be 'that guy' but it really does look pretty good with a custom config file and the nvidia bf3 beta drivers with the rage profile. It honestly looks solid, some of the textures aren't amazing but with a tweaked config file I have none of the texture popping issues, models look pretty good and it runs perfectly smooth.

Can anyone list all of the links that optimize the graphics & such? A maintained list would a great resource for those that want to enjoy the game with the correct settings.

I totally agree, after console commands and updated drivers the game performs and looks pretty good. I do wish there was more detail close up but that's the nature of the engine and its desire to make all artwork unique. Its compressed and still 22g. The game is indeed quite fun once you get all the performance issues worked out.

In our line of work, it is often a necessity to buy these games, even if we think they are going to suck.

Here is the problem you SHOULDN'T need to do that:eek:
If you feel that way go play on consoles :)

j/k... sorta, I am not bothered with having to type a few words or go into a few menus to get a PC game looking/running good. Has been that way in the past for PC games, why is this such a big deal now?

Why is everyone, except me, calling it a "texture pop-in?" It is a texture load delay. A common issue that used to be a problem when prefetching is not done properly, or has a complete issue with x/y/z. Half-Life 2 had this issue for some.

However, I did play up to a point where I went into my first sewers and it was fun, actually (gasp) last night. At this point it had a very id'ish feeling, and an interesting dynamic that has not been experienced in FPS as of yet for me. When the mutants were coming for me in various acrobatic fashion, leaping anc coming over the railings, I actually enjoyed the motion it had for my aim . But I am still disappointed by some factors, but not what many post. I really do not have the issues that some note, nor to the degree.

I understand that, just thought it was funny how surprised/angry people seem to be who bought the game already. id is probably thinking the game has done great with all the pre-orders and rave "reviews"... it's just such a shame, if people didn't blindly buy these games then maybe PC games would be better overall?

When i first fired the game up. I thought for a second I didn't have my glasses on! OH i do! lol
