The [H] Post Pictures of your ManCave

Oh man that is sweet!

haha, well she did pick out the case for my build cause it looks like a space ship! (choosen over various slick Lian Li cases.

She did then comment that just because she liked the layout doesnt mean i have to go buy it, but then followed by

"Wife: One day you will have your 30' Monitor" :)

It's time to break out the Jedi mind trick

Wife: "You need to explain to me why you need this 30" monitor"
You: "I don't need to explain why I need this monitor"
You: "Go ahead and purchase this monitor. In fact get 3"
Wife: "Go ahead and purchase this monitor. In fact get 3"

Sweet case btw.

working on that, will star whispering to her while she sleeps as well :)

and ya, that wall of speakers rules, i am a man who still liked some nice big tall speakers, screw all this dinky little surround speaker set ups :D

oh hi, gallery at http://countercultured.net/pics/ht

new couch not in the pics, but *shrug*, my version of the ultimate man cave.

For scale, that's a 10 foot screen, 8 foot ceilings.

great build and a ton of money i am sure, but what scares me is this

raid.jpg

software raid card (highpoint is by far the best raid cards...) and raid 5 with 8x2T drives... hope you got backups if something goes wrong.

The highpoint card has done well. I've intentionally failed the raid, done online capacity expansion, etc. As long as two drives don't die at once, I should be all good. I wouldn't mind a 3ware 9750 and running raid6, but I didn't have the money at the time.

Being that I live alone my whole place is my "man cave" and I've never been much for decorating, probably because I suck at it.

Anyway, I can't really compete with some of these awesome rooms posted above but here is where I play. I apologize in advanced for the crappy shots, the only camera I have at the moment is my phone.

Living Room for movies, console gaming and light PC gaming.

My office for more serious PC gaming (i.e. more demanding games) and work.

I don't have anything quite as awesome as all that, but here's mine. It's the home office my company was generous enough to let me pay for and build myself. :p

I haven't gone in for the dual monitor thing, and I'm slowly going blind, so there's my P42ST30 plasma "monitor" that I just traded out the ol' A7217A CRT for.

And the games I've collected since circa 1993. (Possibly alphabetized and split by box size. *cough*)

It's good to see the OCD traits run in other [H] members :p

I love this room deadlift, in fact I am going to borrow a bit for my own cave
Question, what are the dimensions of that room?

Thanks.

Dimensions:

20' long
13.5' wide for the front theater/bar section. Ceiling is 9.5' here.
11.5' wide for the raised office area. Ceiling is 7' 10" here

Anyone running a set of Paradigm Studio 20's and center has a pretty awesome Man Cave in my book.

For sure! I don't dare try to expand my stuff beyond the garage or basement. A Man house would be sweet. I joke with the Wife that I am going to buy the house next door when they move.

Is that an HP DC-7100 USDT in the left corner?

Honestly I forget. It was a guys computer at work I fixed for him. He clicked on the wrong link got a virus that killed his OS so I fixed it for him.

The thing weighed like 30 lbs.

That the biggest issue, is while rebuilding from a 1 drive failure is the time it takes to rebuild 2T drives a 2nd drive can easily die.

You guys make me look forward to the day I own a house that I can do something like that in.

Impressive Man cave of the day

But he doesn't beat my 5250 watts on 3 dedicated 20 amp circuits and 5 18" subs

Oh and I have 11.5 sound system (if you count the subs separate) In all honesty the Receiver only has a .2 out.

The problem with this kind of setup (Man cave of the day) is you start having locality time/shift domain issues. Your standing wave cancelation becomes nightmarish as well.

:D

And yes I'm serious.

well this makes me want to buy a house to have the space to do stuff like this.

how much did the man cave of the day cost ?

So much awesome yet still nerds :D

For some reason it strikes me as odd that all the "man caves" are inside a house, I would have expected someone to convert a shed into something awesome where there are no women allowed, just like when we were kids.

Or a tree house, which would be flat awesome too! Eventually we're gonna have to get around to a poll and give some kind of man cave award relative to the design. Like a free box of microwave popcorn for a home theater or some zombie targets for the guy who has an armory.

Snoop Dog did this.

And you know he's token on some major ganja in there. :D

5250 watts is nothing. One of my amps will do 14,000 watts, and I have 4 ;) Last I checked, that's over ten times the power you're boasting about, with eight of possibly the best 18" subs ever made.

I'm not normally one to have a pissing contest, but hey you whipped it out first.

What are you using for media center software? It looks pretty slick. I didn't see it listed at your site. Thanks.

Mediaportal. The skin in the pics is X-Factor, which has not been updated for the latest version (1.2) yet. I'm actually using a skin called Avalon while I wait for an update which is kind of nice. MP is an old xbmc fork and rewritten in c#. It uses directshow rendering, which is quite nice. Moving Pictures and TV-Series are some mandatory addons ;)

Thanks for the info. I've been looking for something like this and Media Center while it works well, isn't the greatest for working with all the different file formats.

 Yeah, well mine puts out 1 gigawatt to each speaker and I have 147 of them.lol j/k
Awesome setup. I know the other poster fired first and you just returned a very effective fire. lol:D

Mine's just a bit more budget restricted, I'll grant you. Still, the two huge 16Hz tapped horn subs lurking behind a 102" screen should give some idea on what I've been subjecting my house to. For the curious... yes, Scott Pilgrim will in fact knock pieces off the wall at 120dB. I've removed the cover on the ceiling fixture in that first pic - the whole ceiling flaps up and down when the horns get going. I don't want glass up there flapping around with it.

Anyhoo - 7.1 channels, designed/built all the speakers myself. Built the whole system for less than $2.5k.
