Gauging interest for motherboard trays for benchers

Nice website. You have an email from my work address, Spotswood. I look forward to getting one of these with a lid for my new 2P G34 rig...
 
Got my cases today Spotswood, they look awesome I can't wait to put them together!

Yeah, Mine are out for delivery today..
Probably gonna be this weekend when I put it together as Im gonna need to run out and get some casters for it.. Will be some time next week when I get to voltron my stack together into Quad-Damage :D

Lol ya I'm in the process of moving and all the mining gear is still at the old house so I wont even get to put hardware in the cases for a few days QQ.
 
When I got home today, I couldnt take the pressure and went ahead and built up my new cases.. They are not complete as my hardware has not arrived yet (Rocketr2, im looking in your direct, lol), but Im going to remake my assembly instructions a bit better than last time, also to note the changes.

Im 2 hours past due for bed, and its gonna take a while to upload the pics to Photobucket, so Ill give you guys the write up on it tomorrow..

I had the "le grill" moment when I opened the box. Once i calmed down, laid everything out, and pulled up a picture things went fine. Took me about an hour to get the 2 cases put together at work. I would definitely recommend putting these together at a nice work bench with lots of space. Had I have tried to put these together on the floor in my living room I bet it would have taken me twice as long.

Once I finish getting the rigs together I'll add my thoughts. I can say I am very happy tho. :)

I guess I should pay closer attention.. I can see only 3 are hooked up.. assuming hes gonna use a 2nd PSU and the splitter adapter.

Also, I went ahead and created a thread just for these cases..

Its about 80% complete, but a lot of pics for anyone wanting to know more about these cases.
 
6950+5870 with an octo opteron pulling 500w wallside making my 850w psu give up round 400w at 80% efficiency ...

I can see 4 maybe 5 cards on a 900w... depends how low the cpu is...
 
What about interchangeable parts

The grooved corner posts would do nicely

something like
FAN, FAN, 2 horizontal hot swap sata bays
think like a thermaltake black x external kinda deal but you would need to have more drive in an enclosure or some sort of lock down mechanism

vertically:
dismantling a thermaltake black x or the four port that comes on corsair 800d might work

so i envision something almost rubbery sliding down the grooves and around the fans for vibration dampening
 
For such simple and beautiful racks, it seems there has to be a better solution than zip-ties. Maybe holes and bolts?

Indeed. I plan on adding another bolt in the middle along with some rubber applied to the underside of the top part of the "clamp." :D
 
When I saw this on the front page, I thought it looked familiar.
But this one looks more user friendly with more space. The link one is over 6 years old and never updated.

Seriously though, nice solution to bringing together lots of GPU power in a minimalistic way. And it will also double quite nicely as a space heater this winter. :p

The pre-measured and drilled holes in Spotswood cases to internally tighten the screws so they can remain hidden looks MUCH better..
And an unwrapped IDE cable.. eeewwwww
 
80/20 is great to work with. Especially if you have to constantly modify frames, and prototype new design's. We use it in our shop quite extensively.

What really impressed me was how reasonable the prices of the cases are. I'm sure you get a much better price and save on shipping when you buy in bulk but spotswoods pre made cases didnt cost much more than just the cost of materials would cost me when I looked them up. Plus they turned out much nicer than anything I would have built on the weekend.
 
God I have been out of the loop for a while. Where did you guys get thes pci-e extender cable things? I would love to have a few of those.
 
I think most us get them on ebay from china. If you're in a rush you can find them in the US but they cost 3x as much for the same cable.
 
Like others I have absolutely no use for this giant pile of awesome. :-(

Apparently I am completely out of the loop. Are you guys bringing in serious money (I am guessing that is what you do with bit coin) in order to pay for this AND cover the electric bill you must end up with from running all of it?

6 Weeks ago it was pretty serious money, upwards of 500$/mo with 2 rigs
Now I have 4, bringing in about 400$ and have to spend about 140$ on electricity.

The dynamics of that will change this winter as they will also serve as a space heater on separate floors of the house partially negating the need for running the heater.

Any way you look at it, its still profitable.. BTC has paid for every piece of equipment im running, so even if the bottom fell out, Im sittin on about 3,500$ worth of essentially free equipment.. Im currently callin it quits on new hardware just to run my 4 rigs.. Later on I may add another double stack provided I can find a place to keep/power em all..

Can you answer a few questions for me?

1) WHY keep the video cards up and off of the motherboard?
2) HOW are you connecting the video cards to the motherboard when you are not physically connecting them?
3) WHAT is the benefit of doing so?
4) AND, how do you attach more cards than slots? I just saw a pic of a setup that had 6 cards that were actually wider together than the motherboard as a whole?

1) hot cards need air... run cooler with gaps inbetween...

2) they are physically connected...pcie ribbon cables go between cards and slots...this allows you to use all the slots when a double thick card would cover up 2 slots you can use all slots on the mobo.

The mobo has 6 pci express slots. but they are too close together to use with double slot cards. Using the extenders allows you to use all 6 slots and keep a good amount of spacing between them.
