So is everyone still too butt hurt about Cliffy Bs comments and attitude toward the PC gamers to go out and buy this game? I've just came in here (which I don't do very often; usually stay in Genmay :p) to see what you all were saying about it and I can't even find a thread on it from the past month or two. I don't care to get into the politics of gaming. If I like it, I'm going to buy it. So please don't derail the thread too much about this stuff ;).

I liked the first two a lot just for the mulitplayer/co-op support. A couple of my friends and I are getting it just for that. Though the story is pretty shallow (which should be expected for a shooter/action game of this type), it keeps me pretty interested as to how they will destroy the locust or die trying. I haven't played my 360 much at all this year with the exception of CoD BO when my friends occasionally message me to hop on with them. So I'm glad a game is finally coming out to make me feel like I didn't waste my money on my XBL membership. The Gears games are one of the few that make me want to get all of the achievements too since they're usually pretty fun to get, though there were a couple in Gears 2 that were just retarded and I didn't get (I think one of them was to kill an absurd amount of locusts). I'm sure once the campaign is done, I'll be spending most of my time on the new Hoard mode as I did with the 2nd Gears. It seems they've added a bit more strategy to it this time with the currency and weapons systems they have in place, so it should be even better, IMO.

Anyways, for those of you who are planning on picking this up a launch, please post where you're getting it since I haven't pre-ordered it and am looking for a decent deal on it. Right now the best I've seen is Amazon having it with a $20 gift card toward purchase of your next game, which won't be too long with BF3 and Uncharted 3 coming out this season :D. It's going to be a good Christmas this year.

Personally Cliffy did something really touching for a friend of mine who passed away from Cancer , he sent his wife a signed GoW chainsaw and signed copy of the game (my friend was a huge Gears fan) so she could auction it off for proceeds to pay for the burial. I think the fact that Cliffy took the time to read my friends blog documenting his experiences with Cancer over the last 2 years of his life was also quite touching..

So really I can't hold anything against him personally at all , but as a developer I think he's a douche bag and largely egotistical. I think the choices he's made and the fact that he basically blames PC gamers along with everyone else on the bandwagon for the ills of the industry of gaming as a whole are part of the attitude that is hurting gaming across the board. He made his career because of PC gamers and then largely told them to fuck off and decide console only development for a while was the way to go. Bulletstorm ended up being a failure and selling quite poorly despite being a fun game (albeit a very , very short fun game) and I think after that we won't be seeing anything for the PC from there group in the near future.

However despite my viewpoint on his business practices I've enjoyed Gears of War from day 1 when it first released. I've played hundreds of hours of it and enjoyed the co-op with friends , it may be the atypical male focused shooter but its also really satisfying to saw your foe in half. I'm looking forward to Gears 3 as the beta rocked and I've got at least 12-13 friends I know are day 1 buyers. Between Gears and BF3 my multiplayer gaming sessions are going to be well filled.

In all honesty, I know that being on [H] we have to stand up for PC gaming, but a lot of what he said does ring true in a lot of cases. It doesn't mean that I don't love my gaming PC, but the whole idea of people smart enough to upgrade video cards are smart enough to torrent thing isn't exactly far fetched.
I'm definitely going to be picking up Gears 3. I never was a whole lot for the VS. online play, but playing co-op and Horde is a blast. Plus, I love the single player. I've gone through the first two games 3 times each.

Even though there is no shortage of pirates simply lobbing in any PC user that understands how to upgrade there hardware as a potential pirate is absurd. Saying shit like that makes him look like a blow hard , pirates do not make up a majority of gamers and claiming any gamer that upgrades his computer can be a pirate makes about as much sense as saying any gamer that buys cleaning supplies for the home are likely to be Latino maids.

I don't have it pre-ordered, but I do plan on getting it the day it releases.

I will be picking it up, waiting for the conclusion of the series really.

Same here. I'm sure it will end with the whole world destroyed except for a very small group of people; probably your team and command group, hah. I'm wondering wtf they're bringing Marcus' dad into the story too for. It sounds like he might have defected to the locust or something from what I remember seeing in Gears 2. But I haven't played it since launch basically and it's pretty blurry right now. I guess I'll replay it soon to get a refresh before jumping into Gears 3.

So I guess everyone is just planning on getting it at their local B&M store for full price without pre-ordering?

No pre-order here. I don't really care about gold weapons or anything like that, so I'm just planning on showing up at Best Buy on my lunch break.
For the more serious folks, I know that at least 2 BB stores near me are doing midnight launches.

I canceled my pre-order, I'd rather spend my $$ on BF3. GoW3 looks better than #2.. seems faster!!! GoW 3 looks to be a good game!

Will get this eventually but with all the pre-order exclusive/retailer-exclusive/special xbox controller-exclusive DLC BS coming with this game my interest in it has waned significantly.

QFT.

The only exclusive DLC crap I've seen coming with the game from all the retailers are stupid skins for mulitiplayer. So it's not like anyone will have different equipment or advantage over anyone buying used or that didn't pre-order. Which is better than Gears 2 that gave new game buyers a map pack DLC at launch.

Me and my buddies still play Gears 1 multiplayer all of the time. Gears 2...you end up with random people as the host...way worse. Laggy, inconsistent shotgun, just as glitchy as Gears 1.

But we played hours of the Gears 3 beta, and damn, if it wasn't awesome...well, at least while the dedicated servers were up.

Gonna rock. The only shooter that I REALLY like on an xbox controller.

Well I just ordered off Amazon since I'll get $20 toward my next game, which I guess will be BF3. I haven't seen any other deals and doubt I will with such a blockbuster title that hasn't launched yet. I'll have it on launch day though, so that's cool. I definitely can't do a midnight launch since I have work the next day.

So how do you all think the series is going to end..?

I'll say Dom dies somewhere towards the end (can't have a good story without an important character dying), but they kill all of the locust or at least drive them off the planet with very little left of humanity. It'll just be nice to see how it ends up that way :).

Damn, for some reason I thought I had another week before this came out. I just started playing NHL 12!

some peeps on the local craigslist had the game for sale already last week. legit copy too

It's easy to get if you work retail. I have a friend that worked in a retail store and he got my Resident Evil 5, Gran Turismo 5 and a couple other games a week or so before they came out too. It's crazy how some stores let you check this stuff out at the register without any sort of "don't sell before this date" alarm going off. I know they do it for movies, I guess games aren't as important.

I wish I had it right now :(
Have to wait 'til Friday (payday).
Hoping I can still get a LE by then, probably won't be able to though.

Beast mode is well .. BEAST!

I'm enjoying the game completely , can't wait to sink my teeth into the campaign.

3 hours of TDM and Execution, and all I can say is the hit the nail on the head. Great hit detection, the pace is spot on, and it looks great for a console game too. money well spent IMO. Can't wait to play some of the other game modes tomorrow.

I've been watching some MP videos on youtube, it seems a lot faster-paced now...even standard TDM/Warzone. Is that accurate or is it just those videos?

I'm on the fence if I want to pick this up now and try some MP or to wait a few months as I have a game backlog happening. I really liked Gears 1, didn't get into Gears 2 as much (played some MP at the start and then faded away) so hrm...

Hopefully some other [H]'ers can give initial impressions before I leave work!

For some reason I can't do GOW MP, so I will get to it whenever to do the campaign. Trying to clear the backlog some.

I'm in the same boat but I went ahead and bit.

I played the hell out of the first Gears, and it really was the only game I ever really got into on the 360. I'm just waiting for the UPS delivery.

I may look into Gears 3, I just haven't found any excitement thus far. I have previously bought all three games, to which I have sold them all back at some point. There may be strategy in much of the online modes; doing team deathmatch with an organized team might be more fun.

Is Gears 3 still: Sprint -> Barrel roll -> Cover -> Sprint ->Barrel roll ->Sprint?

I would love "tactics" or new game mode types such as Capture the Flag, or Domination. Does such things exist now?

I had a better time playing the story and horde mode than normal MP. How's the story mode thus far?

If anyone wants to join me and a friend in Co-op campaign after I get off work today (so sometime around 7-10 EST.), then that would be cool. I keep reading that the campaign is much better/funner with a full co-op team. I'd rather play with an [H]'r than some random tween online too, heh.

My Gamertag is "T4rcI" (uppercase i).

I just played it for about an hour but it's mostly time to go to work. I'll play some more in the morning. Seems pretty cool if you're a fan. My biggest problem is music and cut scene audio cuts in and out like a mother fucker all the time.

Bought it purely for the co op gameplay as there are far too fun co op experiences out there. I will actually be playing it through with several different friends (did the same with Gears 2). I find the story a bit lame, I thought the story in the 1st was intriguing then somewhat boring in the 2nd. Game wont be here for a few days yet.

I picked it up on the way home today (Tuesday), but won't get to play it until tomorrow, after work. I can't wait!

The increased pacing has a lot to do with overall tweaks to the game speed but also because games are hosted on dedicated servers. I have not once experienced any kind of significant lag or glitching , I was extremely impressed. You have to keep in mind Gears 1 and 2 had VERY messy latency issues that plagued and really prohibited any chance for a competitive community to really form around the series. Gears 3 changes all that , its a smooth experience from start to finish. I've experienced more latency issues in a dedicated PC game than this game and that really says something to how seriously Epic took the latency issues in this game.

Even from the beta in May , the changes to the MP game types are really solid. I highly recommend a rental but its worth buying for the massive amount of content. The hours just melted away as I was doing co-op with 3 of my friends today , the dialog is well written and punchy. The characters have more "feeling" to them and don't feel like massive hulks driven by military design and there are parts of the story that are actually touching at points , I was not expecting that at all.

Playing the constant stream of FPS games over the year its great to have that fast paced feeling from a well designed FPS but instead in a third person shooter. I'll be playing this game for a while to come.

Just picked it up at KMART. It got glowing reviews and even though the mulitplayer can be stale at times I didn't play the horde mode of the 2nd game.

Best deal by far:

60 dollars for the game
20 dollars off for a future purchase made by 11/05 which will be BF3
and half off a 12 month card of xbox live if rang up in the same transaction. So basically 93 bucks for everything.

Game + 20 dollar off coupon + year of xbox live.

How do you find the MP "stale at times"? Gears has one of the best fleshed out MP modes of any game on the 360.

Never really been into the Gears series honestly. Sold my 360 not to long ago, so its a no go for a while at least. I would like to eventually play them through.

Hopefully, they will continue to make quality games from what I have seen, it should be fine then. :)
