Sorry I'm a bit confused by the first point. Is it a bug that you can redeem it or a bug that you can't redeem it?

I'm assuming you meant there is a bug preventing automatic redeeming.

So what I mean is this: if you were to buy a digital copy of an older title like BF2 on Steam, you should be able to redeem it in Origin, however there is a bug preventing that.

If you bought a physical copy of BF2, you would not be able to redeem it.

Because they aren't run by stockholders thank god ;)

And they have released lots of other things and have been focusing on Steam and whatnot for while now as well. I would kill a room full of kittens to see a HL3 or a new CS run on a new engine, but I got plenty of other games to play to keep me busy :p. Besides, I think after DOTA2 is released, they might have something up their sleaves planned :)

@Offspring: any news about Origin/EA actually selling other companies games through Origin? I would consider your Origin a true competitor to Steam if you did this, then it's just a matter of building a community around it. I am a big Steam fanboy, but I believe in real competition. If all we get is EA games, most of us will probably only use it for whatever game like BF3/ME3 that we want, but not for anything else. But if you become a true storefront like Steam, then you could actually compete with Steam.

Buxaroo, honestly I can't say. I know what our next feature set is going to be, I know when the next Origin release will be out there and I know a bunch of roadmap stuff, but as to that I'm not really privy.

Thanks for clarification on this issue.

Nice to see someone involved [H]ere. Thanks for your info.

Yeah this has caused a big hassle. The CSRs/Support are very helpful though. Whoever is affected can speak to them and if you handle it well, they are willing to give nice compensation.

I had an issue adding a physical copy of BF2142. Some techs said no way, another said yes they can, but its complicated. That is when the bug started to prevent the addition of physical games (etc) to Origin.

What pisses me off about origin is the default account name. I don't know what the deal is but they can not give me my normal name back. I am the only one that uses it and I never go by the one they defaulted me as.

Battlefield 3 Pre-Orders Top 1.25 Million

tl;dr:

During the Citi Tech Conference, Electronic Arts CFO Eric Brown told attendees that Battlefield 3 has 1.25 million pre-orders, saying that this game is well ahead of its predecessor, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, in regards to pre-orders in the same number of weeks until launch (thanks Blues). In related news, Rendering Architect at DICE, Johan Andersson, has unveiled, via Twitter, the Battlefield 3's native resolutions on consoles: "#bf3 is 1280x704 on both PS3 and 360. removing a few lines from 720p saves good perf & memory for us"
lol @ consoles.

Wow. That looks epic.

I'm not really seeing much of a shitstorm at all. I'd say for a AAA title, i've seen the mildest storm I've ever experienced. That's pretty good considering the scope of BF3.

That said, SP teasers stoped getitng me excited long ago. The MP looks epic though so i'm happy.

Yes, 'shitstorm' nothing more than people whining about small things and turning them into something they are not. Its comparable to listening to a girl cry about sand in her vagina.

Actually the physical copies could never be converted into digital due to limitations. The bug only occurs with digital copies, such as those bought on Steam or Gamer's Gate or Amazon or wherever. There isn't really a way to convert physical into digital, unfortunately for the older titles.

This game drops on my birthday this year and I cannot wait. I think I am going to have to schedule some PTO and have a BF3 marathon session.

I was able to play the alpha build and have been salivating for the beta.

I'd say it's pretty much lock now that the beta will begin on 9/27.

:(
Seems theyre going to hold off announcing a Date for as long as possible. Woulda preferred a date as opposed to more gameplay footage, i'll see enough gameplay footage when i buy the thing.

The non-linear story in Battlefield 3 is told by way of a frame narrative where U.S. Marines Staff Sgt. Henry "Black" Blackburn is being interrogated about recent world-shaking events. What the player actually plays are Black's recollections of the events where a new threat known as the PLR caused him to be involved in military joint operation all across the globe.

Im sure the COD fanboys will have a shit attack when they read that. "omg its ripping off blackops"

I want the beta just as bad as everyone else -- but if it's not released till 9/27 (assuming) that leaves an awfully short time for the actual beta testing before the hard release date of 10/25.

Say at most 3 weeks of beta before the it's closed down and then what? 1 week of "fixes" applied to digital copies only?

I realize most copies sold will likely be the digital flavor, but is EA pushing out a physical disc as well? I just find it weird that they would have a AAA title in "beta" stage all the way up to a week or two from the release date. As any physical form of distribution requires weeks of prep time to mass produce.

Unless around the (presumed) release beta release 9/27 -- around the same time BF3 goes gold, and any changes/bugs found during the beta will be fixed with a Day-0 patch online. ? Just throwing out thoughts at work - I'm bored and am stuck for another 2 hours.

The same thing happeend with BC2, the game was released like 5 days after the Beta ended and had a pretty hefty day 1 patch. This'll be the same deal.

You guys realize that the beta that you will be receiving is not the hard beta release. The game team continues to work on the build while it's out in the public, and the one that they release is going to be much older than the one you get in the retail stores/digital downloads.

Don't worry about the quality of the beta vs. the quality of the release. Enjoy the beta, get ready for the release.

The end of the teaser, the blowout of the room was from a frag? If so, thats awesome as games have seriously underpowered the hand grenade for a long long time...I mean...its a fist sized ball of C4/Syntex surrounded by like 1/4 or 1/2 inch thick sheet of metal...they're hella violent little bastards. Makes me wonder how they've handled claymores....mmmm stainless steely

Theyve already said that anyway, bc2 beta got updates, mroe than likely bf3 beta will as well.

Offspring, I have Origin set to run at start-up, just like I do Steam, except while steam quietly loads in the background and keeps itself hidden in my taskbar, Origin loads in the foreground and I have to manually minimize it every time I log in. Is there a way to have it load minimized?

Thanks

Unfortunately not, but I'll bring that up to the people who can decide whether to change that.

Yeah, I saw it but I'm really swamped with work at the moment. I'll get to it when I get a chance.
