With the news that Samsung may be able to actually produce the fabled Super AMOLED HD screen, the Nexus Prime rumors are once again out in full force. The details are the same as the last round -- 4.5 inch Super AMOLED HD display at 1280x720 resolution, 1.5GHz dual-core CPU, Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich" on board, and coming in October/November.

i read an article aswell today about this. i thought LG was doing the next nexus device. i hope samsung doesnt go totally cheap-o on the overly plastic design like on the nexus s. was a trade off that is hard to deal with coming from the nexus one..


im sure it will be on spirit. no nexus device has ever been locked to a single carrier(s). everyone will be able to use it eventually
 
Issue is, only Sammy has the Super AMOLED displays, and they seem to be keeping the limited (and likely hard to produce) supply close to home. Even HTC couldn't get enough, and went Super LCD (*VA) instead.
 
^very true. could very well be the reason they are going samsung again. samsung was probably like we either make the phone and use our screen, or someone else makes the phone and we wont give you these screens, we will keep them for our phones.

Wow could only imagine the EVO-3D with a Super AMOLED+ HD screen :eek:
 
It seems Verizon will finally get a Nexus device. Even though the HTC Incredible is the same thing, I wish they would have brought the N1 to Verizon (and it's funny that the Inc still hasn't officially got 2.3). Every carrier has the Nexus S besides Verizon. Now I'm just frustrated because I'm extremely anxious to upgrade my Droid ASAP, so I was planning on getting the GS2 or Bionic in the next few weeks. Now this is tempting me to wait. Though I guess I could just sell my next phone toward the Prime when it launches. I'll bet it's not out in October and gets delayed to December as all Android phones seem to miss their rumored/projected release.
 
According to this, there will be a 4.3" Super Amoled Plus HD at 720p... me thinks that I don't have too big of a pocket...
 
I really hope its not 4.5. I used an Infuse and it was more than I would have liked, 4.3 is the sweet spot for me. DONT SKIP 4.3 GOOG!

^ This. I also played around a bit with an Infuse. Too big for my tastes.
 
Isn't the current Galaxy S II the one that's been out a few months a 4.2" screen ? My Nexus-S is 4" and a Tad small for me. I had the EVO 4G with 4.3" screen that is border line too big. I really think the 4.2" is spot on perfect.

Fucking U.S. carriers have to change it to 4.5" for what ? Why can't we get the exact same Galaxy S II that's already out ? Samsung should have launched it in the U.S. back in May with the worldwide release not sure why we got the shaft and now will get it 4 months later with too large of a screen.
 
Nexus Prime runs ICS and has no buttons. It has a 4.6" screen, without physical buttons its is the same as a 4.3" device, like Evo 4G. I don't see any problem with that, can't wait for the phone.

Couple things wrong with this. First, your speaking the like the Nexus Prime is a already a common device which is untrue, its only mentioned in rumors and you're statement's sound like you know them as fact.

Where are your sources?

I saw what he said as speculation, with a theoretical example to explain why a large display wouldn't be as bad as we think it is.
 
I do wonder when it will make Sprint...

I'm now 2 years overdue on my upgrade for being an Sprint Premier Gold member (decade long customer). Me and my HTC Hero have had our ups and downs, and, at this point, it's just so tiresome having to free up internal memory all the time.

I had wanted to wait for Nokia, but I don't think I could wait till december, which means I can't wait for Nexus Prime either. The Galaxy SII or Samsung Epic Touch seems good enough for a year - and I get to tell my gf's that I have an epic touch (love my life!). So that's my plan. September can't come soon enough for me.

Can't go wrong with the new Sprint Galaxy S2, last year the Nexus-S was based off the Galaxy S1, so I assume the Nexus-Prime will just be a beefed up Galaxy S2 not radically different. Besides having Android 4.0 "Ice Cream", but XDA will get Ice Cream running on the Galaxy S2's right away I am sure.

At least the Galaxy S2 has the Super AMOLED+ screen, I think the Nexus-Prime will be just be an HD version of the AMOLED, not the + version.
 
Unless ice cream sandwich is a fairly drastic departure in looks and performance I'll be jumping from the android ship.

I really hope so, but I have not been too impressed with 2.0-2.3 as far as performance. I am eligible for an upgrade in Sept so I'll have some time to wait and see what Ice Cream has to offer.

yeah, for me, only the sheer brute power of Tegra 2 and Exynos has kept 2.3 afloat. 3.x has managed to overcome the Tegra 2 in some aspects.... in just the GUI :(
 
If the reports are true of losing the buttons then I would be ok with a bigger screen. However, I really wish android or iOS would pick up where webOS was going with phone and tablet communication. Seems rather silly having to use dropbox or box.net to swap files between them, or not being able to forward calls and texts to phones of the same OS/make.

Galaxy S2 is roughly 4.3, and as mentioned, with ICS's lack of capacitive buttons the screens will be more edge to edge, allowing the fitting of a larger screen, yet retain the size of a 4.3 phone. Phone is the same size, screen is just larger.

The rumored prime has a dual core 1.5GHZ chip. Its a 4.5 inch 720P Pentile screen so no it isnt the + RGB version, but at such high pixel density on a 4.5 inch screen at that resolution, the pentile display will be extremely hard to notice. Then there is hardware acceleration which is absolutely massive for performance. Then toss in, that the Prime phones ship with pure Android and no bloatware the way the Galaxy S2 does, which by default ends up with the Nexus phones being much faster than your standard Att/Sprint/Verizon/Tmobile crapware loaded devices.

Performance wise the Prime will be much more than a 'small step' above the Galaxy SII dude. Toss in that the Prime phones get their updates so fast and you have a clear winner. The SGS2 is a fine phone, its just a damn shame that its rumored to hit Sprint on 9/2/2011 when the Prime is said to be due the last week of November around Black Friday. Had the Galaxy S2 launched in the US in April like it did overseas it would have had a much larger time to shine.

Samsung released the Galaxy S2 in April, it went for sale in the big Asian and European countries, and was an instant blockbuster. But the U.S. got the MAJOR shaft with no release at all for some strange reason ?

Fast forward almost 5 months later, and it will finally be announced, and is said to be a little different device than what has already been for sale since Spring. Why do the U.S. carriers have to butcher this awesome phone, give it weird fucked up names, and have different spec's, like bigger screen but still same resolution, etc... ?

I just have one simple question. Why didn't Samsung and the U.S. carriers just release the Galaxy S2 here at the same time as the original launch in Europe and Asia back in April, and keep the name "Galaxy S2" ?

Yeah, the US carriers are sitting on their laurels and completely bombing.

That or they're trying to clear out SGS1 inventory before picking up the 2 and holding unsellable clearance devices.

Which is weird, because bell picked up the SGS2 up here in Canada, and the S one still moves...

Nah, they must just be dumb about devices down there.
 
Its because US carriers are just plain dumb. They think if they start giving the phone cute names, and differentiate from the other carriers, it will somehow fool their customers, allow them to have marketing campaigns about just that model, and profit.

Instead of capitalizing on the overwhelming positive worldwide press the SGS II got. The way ISP's and carriers make money here is via contracts, captive customers and FCC protection, not offering value to customers.
 
I've been very happy with my HTC evo since the day it came out -- rooted it and love experimenting with ROMS and kernals.

The Nexus Prime *will* be my next phone -- sadly my upgrade date with sprint isnt till march or april of 2012. I jumped ship from AT&T about 2 years ago and couldn't be happier. Like everyone else I'm curious what the next iphone 5 will be like, but I'm not expecting much in terms of "special"

I do love the sprint trade in program -- they gave me like 120 dollars for my iphone 3G (non-S) which pretty much paid for 1/2 of my Evo :)

Are you sure Droid-Prime = Nexus-Prime?

If so, looks like it'll be Droid-Prime or iPhone 5 for me. I call that a no lose decision. :)

That is everyone's question lately. I have not heard a solid answer either way, just rumors. To me if it is a "Droid" brand name, it is not a Nexus. But others say the very first Droid 1 that came out November 2009, was a vanilla/stock Android phone with no custom UI or bloatware, is that true ?

So if this is the "Droid-Prime" where is the Nexus-Three or Nexus-S II ?

Sure hope Sprint is getting the Nexus-Three or Prime. I am on Sprint with my Nexus-S 4G, my Wife is on T-Mobile currently, and T-Mo are the original Nexus carrier, would move there if they get the N-3 or Prime. But fuck Verizon, they are major ripoff. Sprint and T-Mobile have very good pricing plans, and good service here in Chicago.

I just had Deja vu. :p

Anyways, yes, the Droid was/is a pure vanilla Android phone that came with no bloat whatsoever installed on it from the store. But it was also Verizons debut flagship Android phone, so I'm sure they just wanted to have the best first impression possible at its launch. I'm not sure that they'll be willing to release a phone anymore like that again :(. I sure hope so. The closest thing to it since then is the Xperia Play which is vanilla Android, but still has a little bloat installed on it from the store.
 
I was going BIONIC the day it comes out, but if this is true I WILL be waiting yet another FUCKING month I guess. I want my first smartphone to be the best investment possible :(
