Steve Jobs Resigns as CEO of Apple

thats what im saying.. the iPhone..... doesnt mean hes the ONLY engineer who worked on the iPhone. or is he the only one?

No, he's the ultimate salesman because:

(1) He always has a idea for a "new" product that's been done many times before. The engineers actually design the product, with Jobs making the call on basic concepts.

(2) He can always sell any product he puts in front of people...he's just that slick.

What Jobs really invented was a modern revamp of the high-profile Release Party, so long forgotten since it was abandoned by most technology companies in the mid 1990s (when they "grew up"). Companies like Microsoft and Apple used to stage grand balls for new products with no expenses spared, and Jobs really revived that with the twice-yearly Apple release smorgasbord.

Im missing something here, or maybe Im just ignorant? why is Steve Jobs so popular? I mean when he "made" the iPhone... what exactly did he do?

Apple, like Microsoft isn't what I would call particularly grassroots innovative, they both made a killing being BASFs in the tech world. In fact when you look at Apple's two hot products, the iPhone and the iPad, Microsoft beat Apple by many years with similar though nowhere as well designed products from a end user perspective.

Beyond the actual quality of the products Apple has redefined consumer lust in a way that no one else has. People MUST have iPhones and iPads and Mackbooks and are perceived by millions as the best products on the market.

Steve Jobs has done a remarkable job at Apple however though I'm not an Apple fan and don't currently own any Apple products.

The lack of human compassion is absolutely appalling. I'm sure if someone you knew was in bad, and possibly dying, you wouldn't be elated and wished them good-f****ing-bye. He's a person with a family for crying out loud.
Besides that he's amounted to more than everyone here put together. You may hate Apple but Jobs is a business genius and if you disagree you're lying to yourself.
But most importantly it really saddens me to see such indifference to a fellow human being. It's sick really.

Ok and I would still fuck his wife.

Cheering that a guy fighting pancreatic Cancer is too sick to continue his job.

I have seen this news on several sites but [H] posters really sink to new depths of low class.

The guy is one of the richest men in America and has barely given a penny away. He was rated he lowest charitable contributor out of America's top 1000 billionaires or something alone those lines. He's THAT bad. Basically, he's the guy who buys himself a 72" super-duper top of the line $99,999 TV and then we asked if he'd like to donate $1.00 to the salvation army with his purchase says flat out "No" without a second thought.

People aren't cheering against him because he has cancer. People are cheering against him because the man is a selfish a-hole whose ran an immoral company that employees other immoral companies were the working conditions are so bad people commit suicide. Through actions of his own, Steve Jobbs, has willingly let or taken part by inaction allowed third world country and second world country workers to die when he had the power to do something about it.

This is one selfish /b/tard that like anomonyous, where most of the world would be a better place if he didn't exist -- at least as far as horrding wealth, selfishness and suicides go.

It's sad and all that the guy is dying, but hey 50 people just died worldwide while I was typing this so what's one more body. His legacy is up to him, and so far "Genius Dick" is probably the most accurate so I don't feel too bad. I am however looking forward to the funeral theatrics all his devoted followers will provide!

I'll give him credit where credit is due. He took PT Barnum's "there's a sucker born every minute" to heart and was very effective through clever marketing at selling massively overpriced computers and electronics to hipsters and moronic Joe six pack types who don't know any better.

i highly doubt it was even his initial idea. Ofcourse he ultimately approved it and has the final say on the features of new prudcts but there has to be someone else in the company bringing up the initial concepts.

This guy changed our understanding of technology and help drive up innovation that employed millions of people all over the world, while every innovation try to meet up or match up with Apple.

Crap, I have to go buy a turtle neck, jeans and sandals so people will worship me now.

Their PC business is far from Apple's biggest revenue maker and their iOS devices are far from overpriced relative to their competitors

I'm about as anti apple as they come but you can't deny his success. And I wouldn't wish pancreatic cancer on anyone.

CEO is there to make a company profitable, which he did in spades. Billionaires aren't required to give to charity, though I would.

Oh, and AAPL trading has been halted. As soon as the announcement hit, the stock lost over 5% of its value.

We will prolly see a significant, long term drop. Apple with Jobs running it, is worth more than Apple with someone else running it. Well, no, not really, but that is the perception, and the perception of value is what matters in the stock market.

I remember when he was named interim CEO of Apple when they were on the verge if going under....

+1 There are seriously a lot of inconsiderate assholes that frequent this site. I hope a few of you get cancer as well so that you can be laughed at.

What, because they were popular? Guess what other kinds of things are really popular and in no way related to intelligence, productivity, or anything good? I have never believed this, sorry. He sold a bunch of shit, good job (lol job).

People that you don't like don't automatically get to have your respect just because they are dying. I feel bad for him but I feel worse for a bum on the street, and there sure are a hell of a lot of them. It's just a natural counter to "God manifested in the flesh is dying everyone pray for Apple!"

I have never known HardOCP to be a forum that holds back, so why even expect it from it's members. Wish Cancer on me if you like, but I've had it already and beat it so I'll write my opinion however I see fit.

If you think that's all he's "guilty" of you don't know very much about the guy. I think by anyone's standards the guy can be considered a massive fucking prick.

Well, I think by "anyone's standard" that someone that kicks a man when he is dying is a massive fucking prick - so look in a mirror and see a massive fucking prick staring back at you.

i have an iphone and its solid i would rather have that douche bag no talent hack justin long dead before steve jobs. will this mean ipads will be going for 99 tomorrow?

That's the funny part. These tools on here think that because one man steps down, Apple is finished. I guess every apple employee will resign tomorrow and there will never be another iphone or iPAD released because only Steve Jobs could come up with these design's. I look at the stock drop as a great opportunity as a result of a bunch of short-sited idiots. If you don't think the stock will go right back up to where it was when the iPhone 5 comes out a month from now, you shouldn't be in the stock market.

Fucking this! Seriously, Apple was up shit creek without a paddle when Jobs returned as CEO and, boy, did he turn that business around financially in the last 12-13 years. I am not the biggest Apple fan out there and I do think some of their products are over the top gimmicky (*cough*ipad*cough*), but sheesh, this guy was born to be a salesman and if not for him, Apple would have been nothing more than a memory today, a name in the historical dustbin with other failed firms in technology.

Businesses exist for a primary reason: to make money. Apple is a business and they found one heck of an individual to help them not only stay afloat but to come out on top as the most valuable company in the world (Forbes). I also agree that billionares shouldn't be forced to give to charity, though I most certainly don't condemn the ones that do. In fact, I am willing to go out on a limb to say that demanding billionares (fuck, make that anyone) to give their own earned money to charity against their will is not only disgusting, it's out and out morbid.

Some of the comments in this thread... what the fuck.

Honestly, the hostility of some of the replies makes me want to retch.

Anyone who can take a piece of hardware, market it as the greatest thing, charge a markup of 400-2000%, sell Billions of dollars of songs he never wrote AND make millions feels like they belong to an elite club, you have to give a little respect.

I however, still have never and will never, own an Apple product but respect the way they lift money from so many peoples wallets. That's what it's all about.

the sanctity of human life.[/i]

I mean, well, life is sacred? Who said so? God?
Hey, if you read history, you realize God is one of the leading causes of death.

No, you know where the sanctity of life came from? We made it up.
You know why? Because we're alive! Self-interest.

You don't see Abbot and Costello running around talking about this shit, do you?
We're not hearing a lot from Mussolini on the subject.
What's the latest from JFK?

Not a goddamn thing. Because JFK, Mussolini, and Abbot & Costello are fuckin' dead.

I don't know how his resigning became equated with his dying in this thread. I think some of the early replies are being judged far too harshly when they don't actually refer to his health at all.

I totally agree with Good fucking bye. The original Intellectual Property Thief and King of the Patent Trolls, good riddance. His most notable true innovation (i.e. not fucking stolen) was his ridiculous (ab)use of lawyers. Retire to an island and never be heard from again.

I wish him the best of health though.

I'm not cheering because the man is sick, and I think people are misinterpreting the joy behind Steve Job's retirement. It isn't because he is sick they are happy, it is because he is no longer leading a company that thrives and profits from legions of fanatics who enjoy being told what they want. I for one hope the company changes drastically as a result of this, especially it's marketing.

While Job may have saved Apple when he returned as CEO, the company was on the way down the toilet when he was fired the first time. No one seems to remember that.

Apple and Jobs took a risk, and showed the world that people are willing to pay a premium for well built, user friendly electronics. That is an accomplishment worth noting, and one that positively affects everyone on this forum, whether they buy Apple products or not.

Dont give all the credit to S J. MSoft gave quite a chunk of change to SJ when he was at his lowest cause at the time money was hard to come by. MS at the time gave SJ 205 million or 5 percent stake in Apple.
