Steve Jobs has resigned as CEO of Apple. Tim Cook, Apple’s Chief Operating Officer, has been named CEO. Thanks to Maverick1337 for the heads up.

Apple’s Board of Directors today announced that Steve Jobs has resigned as Chief Executive Officer, and the Board has named Tim Cook, previously Apple’s Chief Operating Officer, as the company’s new CEO. Jobs has been elected Chairman of the Board and Cook will join the Board, effective immediately.

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't be so happy about it; his health has been a major concern in the past and probably played a factor in this decision.

yea its probably due to his health...

SELL SELL SELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

I don't particularly like him, but I don't think Apple could have asked for a more successful CEO.

Well, he hasn't been that good if they fired him long ago. They hired him back when they realized that computers that look like lamps are stupid as hell.

Sure, he does everything for the shareholders...
...but so far as the community?

Well, all I can say is that cancer couldn't have hit a more charitable person.

That was mean of me. :( But honestly, with all that money why not give back to the community some more?

I guess we'll see how this affects Apple.

a sad day in the history of the tech industry, just as it was when bill gates left microsoft

I do wish Steve Jobs all the best (health), alas, there are some things money can't buy...

Seriously, the guy is dying of PANCREATIC CANCER. He's already well beyond his expiration date.

He was pushed out because of a power struggle and inter-office war between Jobs & the CEO at the time Sculley.
Honestly, Jobs did turn Apple around but mainly through high risk high reward projects. It paid off for him and Apple Inc, but it could have easily gone downwards just as quickly.

Oh, and AAPL trading has been halted. As soon as the announcement hit, the stock lost over 5% of its value.

Its amazing how 1 person can have so much of an impact on the companies stock...

What a hell of a CEO.

This is probably due to his health, which is saddening.

I wish him the best.

The lack of human compassion is absolutely appalling. I'm sure if someone you knew was in bad, and possibly dying, you wouldn't be elated and wished them good-f****ing-bye. He's a person with a family for crying out loud.
Besides that he's amounted to more than everyone here put together. You may hate Apple but Jobs is a business genius and if you disagree you're lying to yourself.
But most importantly it really saddens me to see such indifference to a fellow human being. It's sick really.

In today's market, the face of a company can almost make or break it.
Not all companies require a man in front of the camera, but having a key person who the brand is associated with can greatly alter the perception of the company (good or bad).

Hmmm... Expected such a high profile villian to go out with more style. Apparently Steve Jobs isn't the supervillian I thought he was.

The stock is down 5% already in after hours trading, he better do some reassuring.

If I were Apple I would have never told anyone about him resigning. I would have just kept him on in spirit anyway, and let cook run eveything...

Hate the companies walled garden and holier than thou attitude but i will give Mr. Jobs props for being a brilliant CEO and marketing genius.

It's too bad this means he's probably taken a turn for the worse. Lost my grandfather and nearly a cousin to cancer. I don't wish that on anybody.

Good luck Mr. Jobs.

explains why they announced that the iphone will reach sprint for its next release before this...
