League of Legends -- how many [H] regulars?

That's what makes the game fun for those who can think... cuz the first time I had thornmail used on me... well yeah I ended up shredded just like that, and was pissed cuz I had 3 bloodthirsters doing 75% healing, so it should of more then countered the thornmail but didn't... but then the second time, I ditched one of my PD's, grabbed megaton cloak instead, switch out infinity edge to madreds ... and oh dear thornmail is healing me! (2xbloodthirsters charged fully lol) ...

How long have you been playing?
It seems like an awful lot of information to process and know about to make the right decision. Conceivably folks will have good knowledge of their champs spells.

When it comes to which gear fits which playstyle most people already fail or barely manage to read up on some guides. Then you start to talk about either adjusting your playstyle based on what champs you are facing or counter their play. This requires knowledge of what those champs do and the capacity to instantly decide what to do about it yourself.

Past that you are looking at the gear the hostiles have and make decisions to adjust your own gear accordingly. That's a level of complexity that requires fairly intimate knowledge of pretty much all gear there is and the ability to make those decisions in short amounts of time.

While this in general sounds like something that could be fun I can't help but wonder whether the time required to acquire all that knowledge is outside of "casual gaming".

It'll take some time, sure, but it's really not that complicated. The more you play the more you'll realize what stats benefit your character the most. Then you just make a mix of them depending on what the enemy team has. Are you an attack-damage character and they have shitloads of magic? Grab a Hexdrinker and Banshees.

Even at level cap with decent ELO I still see shitloads of people building glass cannon carries that get rocked since their team can't protect. The main mistake I see is people going for mass AD or AP and neglecting penetration.

What do you guys think of the new champion variety bundle? I'm toying with the idea of grabbing it for $20 but I'm not sure how much (if any) money I want to drop on this game since DotA2 is around the corner.

Champion Variety Pack – 2600 Riot Points

- Miss Fortune
- Brand
- Maokai
- Jarvan IV
- Sona

I had some fun with Maokai this week, and Miss Fortune the week I started. Jarvan seems like he is decent too, but I haven't tried him. Brand and Sona I have no clue on. All I have for heroes right now is Ashe and Master Yi and I would like a couple tank like characters to compliment them.

Friend and I have been duo queuing as Pantheon (him) and Sona (me). Our alts are only level 20, but so far we're averaging about 75% wins. Sona / Pantheon is a nasty lane.

Regarding the variety pack, I've got like... all of those already, except for Maokai I think? Though I've played him some in 2 or 3 free rotations at this point. But then I think I have all but 8 or 9 champs at this point.

Maokai's an OK tank, but if you want a 'real' tank I'd recommend Amumu or Alistar instead. Much more CC, much more disruptive, and Ali's ult makes Maokai's look like a kid's toy. Brand is a super squishy straight AP mage that has stupid amounts of burst damage but very little CC (one conditional skillshot based stun). I'd take Anivia over him any day, but I'm biased. Miss Fortune's a solid ranged AD carry, but again, I'd take Ashe over her any day. Sona is awesome support, and if you're really facerolling building a Soulstealer and Deathcap can lead to hilarious results as she destroys everything in sight and heals your whole team for like 500 HP every few seconds. She and Jarvan (still the king of tanky DPS in my opinion, and one of the scariest junglers in the game in my opinion) are the most solid champs in the bundle. I'm not a good Jarvan at all, but I have continually seen others do amazing things with him.

If you haven't been playing that long I'd just hold out, check out a few more free rotations (there's always a tank included) and see who really 'clicks' for you before you spend any 'money', real or imaginary.

Maokai is extremely solid as bottom lane roamer. Although you could argue Ali does that better as well.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll wait a few more rotations and give Alistar and a few others mentioned a go before buying anything.

Ali was one of the first heroes I bought, and I hated him. Since playing ranked though, I've been seeing some sick builds, making me want to try him out again.

I'm having ZERO luck with AP Morde. Tanky as hell morde I was doing pretty ok with, but trying to go AP I just keep getting eaten alive, not near enough beef to last. But if I go straight tank to start (boots to flame cloak and blue running armor) the match ends before I get a chance to crank any ap. Bitches.

Renekton is working out for me well right now. Really well. Going to have to try my luck in ranked with him soon.

Tanky is usually Dors Shield -> Boots 1 -> Flame Cloak -> Force Of Nature -> Mag Pen Boots -> Warmogs/Rylai or AP stuff. Doesn't seem to work for me anymore though. I haven't really got a good AP or more mixed earlier AP/Tank build down yet.

I haven't really done Tank Morde in ages, but the main thing I'd say is screw Sunfire. I've never really liked that item. Especially on Morde where Regen is so nasty when you got a FoN, Randuins and Spirit Visage if you want.

Get your Sorc boots quicker and make sure you get some of the regen pendants from FoN early on so you don't get shut out of your lane.

So did anyone catch the Dominion gameplay this weekend? I did not. Been meaning to look for a replay.

yeah it was pretty sweet. gameplay is so much quicker - constant fighting, less death time, quicker leveling, etc

several new items they talk about at the end of the matches too that were either tweaked from summoner's rift or just completely new like one that has reduced cap time by 15% or soemthing

Also, have they posted champs for this weeks rotation yet?

It's been awhile since I've played Gragas. I'm going to try him out tonight.

It seems like there are two main schools of thought on him. One is heavy AP. RoA, Deathcap, etc. The other is Tanky AP. I'll be going tanky AP I believe. I'm going to rush RoA and then a Spirit Visage I think to capitalize on his passive.

What's the deal with Skarner? He's listed as a fighter for crying out loud, but every time i fight him he's geared full tank.

Yeah I play him all the time as tank with some AP. He is fun because of the ULT and his ability to soak mass amounts of damage.

The Meta game right now for melee dps is Tanky dps (IE warmogs>atma's).

Mainly because of all the cc focusing and things, if you build glass cannon in a team fight you'll get stopped hard, especially with no built in escapes.

On top of this Skar just isn't that good of a hero, mainly because his skills don't work well together. Many are built on chasing people/slowing, but then they throw in his E, which is a range nuke that helps him do neither.

If you want someoen that plays that assassin/fighter role much better, get Nocoturne, his skills are faaaaaaaaaar above Skar's and work for that type of character better (long range warp to ult, q for speed/attack, fear for cc, and shield to block cc on you).

What do you guys mean by CC? I always thought it meant Crowd Control?

What's CV and Juke'ing for that matter?

Yeah, CC is crowd control. Some people include heavy slows like Nunu's iceblast, but mostly stuns and snares. Stiler was saying glass cannon isn't viable because you're going to get locked and focused down in a teamfight before you can really do anything now that stuns are such a strong element of most team makeups.

Started playing this game recently still leveling up or w/e at like 18 i think

A lot of fun when I do get a good game but most match ups seem to end up with one team not even having a chance.
This game might have the worst community ever. Every game seems to have the bitterest of nerds, constant name calling, elitists, raging over chat and just negativity everywhere

Latest patch preview sounds kinda retarded. More combat oriented healers? They're healers. What I hear when they say that is "we don't actually want people healing, we want them fighting, so we're destroying this class / mechanic." I'm happy as an occasional Sona player that she'll apparently have better damage output, and the Armor / MR bonus from heal aura buff is nice, but really? I'd rather just have better heals. It's not like base heals are that high anyway. You'd not doing much till later game, or you're burning a ton of mana.

I agree with this, they should just buff the heals on the healers, why even call them a healer if they aren't healing for that much?

We don't really know what the meta is going to be like in Dominion. Maybe healer changes were necessary.

This is another thing I'm worried about; 3v3 and 5v5 already play so differently that some champs are almost OP on 3v3 but fall off quickly or are comparatively weak in 5v5 -- Mundo for example.

Now they're going to have a completely different gameplay mode, Dominion being far more than a map, but we're going to be using the same champions. Same skills. Mostly same items in the in-game store. I'm really worried about this -- Riot has never shown a really strong ability to balance, and the complexity / difficulty of the balancing required just increased substantially.

I'm afraid Dominion may actually be the beginning of the end for LoL. Or at very least, the end of 5v5. Hopefully I'm just being a pessimist.

We need variety, all of these moba games (HoN, Dota, LoL) Need to get off using the same map with a different skin.

The genre is new and fresh, it's time for it to grow and explore new modeos/maps/gameplay.

Personally, I think the genre is ripe for a moba game that has a vareity of modes, from king of the hill, CTF, etc.

There should be a handful of maps with different themes to pick from. Maybe a type of map vote at end of character selection or something.

I completely agree.

And as far as the healer changes, that's the first thing I thought--that riot nerfed the heals and buffed damage to make those classes viable in Dominion. If you checked out their riot team footage over the weekend, you'll notice that support/heal characters who just sit in a lane would have a disadvantage there because of the heavy focus on KILL KILL KILL. Never saw anyone even pushing a lane.

And i'm probably in the minority here, but i welcome these changed. 5v5 map is so old and boring, 3v3 is barely enough to keep me playing. Can't wait to dive back in and learn and play something new.

Was owning with the new champ Talon tonight...might as well enjoy it before the nerf.

He is a real cool champ though.

What needs nerfing about him? I played him a bit, he seems fun but also didn't seem op really. No where near the likes of say vayne when she came out.

He has no escape ability until lv 6 aside from cut throat (which is more benefiting to attack with).

Easily out-lane him with most bruiser solo's like Jax, Jarv, Garen, Morde, etc.

Yeah I guess he is not too bad, I think I just played a bad team. I played him in 3's against a morde/trist/udryr and could not do shit.

I was disapointed that talon's W, the wave of 3 blades that go out and come back, doesn't work like FT's 3 cards. If you're melee range and you hit a guy with all 3 blades, it still only counts as one hit... lame.

His ult however, claims to work on an individual blade basis, yet i've swept all my blades through a guy and have not seen dmg per blade. Is there a hidden cap of like 3 blades per target or something?

from the wiki Rake says it can hit each enemy up to two times. Similarly with his ulti it says: "Each enemy can only be damaged once at the start of the ability and once at the end."

So it's designed that way it seems.

just started playing 3 or 4 days ago.

Going to try and play this for as free as possible. So far I've bought 3 characters (Ashe, Master Yi and Kayle), and I think I'm going to save my points from here on out. Any tips on what I should be focusing on?

Sadly the nerfs to healing are because they can't seem to balance healers properly, they started with gutting all the people with lifesteal mechanics... now the healing mechanics...

and this all started after a match between rioters and Pro gamers, when the Pro's all took healing classes and proceeded to roflstomp all over the staff of riot.

I do really fear how balance in Dominion will be since they never managed to balance twisted treeline and now adding a 3rd game mode :/
