Operation Black Quad G34 "Workstation"

Sfield,

Do you personally own a mill or are you sending/bringing these bits to a machine shop to get them done? Just curious :)

I don't have a mill at this point, but somebody I know does -- looking at that as the first choice. Have been considering getting something small, eg: like the small CNC machines offered by littlemachineshop.com, but don't have alot of time to invest in this currently.

checkout some of the well done "crash course in milling" intro videos at www.glacern.com. That's obviously a high end setup.

waiting to see how those copper blocks fit on the board :)

I don't think that was a single WU. In fact, this box appears to have been assigned standard bigadv for about a week at this point, whereas a slow 2p system has no trouble getting 6904 units...

I think the 933k drop was a bunch of results submitted at once, as a result of part of the home network being DOS'd. Basically, somebody plugged in a cat-5e patch cable in one of the rooms and looped two ports, which the (centralized) switch didn't like, and prevented results from being submitted. I've disabled one of those ports now, since this isn't the first time that has happened.

I've pushed as fast at 15:00TPF 6904 on this box (750K PPD), but need to get the VRM cooling sorted out, since component temps rise significantly.

Milling of the VRM blocks will happen over the next week. CPU3 has a different VRM layout vs. the other sockets on the supermicro board, not yet sure if that'll be addressed in the first pass.

He found a way to turn the dial past 11!

Gawd dang that is awesome!
Anyone know if there are any good dual 'f' boards around for those that need to keep the farm in a single fairly normal box? My wife has far to many available rifles in the house fo me to consider challanging this amazing pice of work, but every time I read stuff here I want more D. Maybe I'll win one of the hexcores...

Dually ATX server boards;) Or EATX if your case can handle them. Wifey thought my folding rig was still running my collection of GPU's, little did she know that i had smuggled a pair of hex core xeons past her. Twice!!!!:D

Also helps if you can intercept the postman before she sees the boxes of goodies arrive and it helps if she doesn't see the electric bill. I got caught with this today:(

lol!

Very nice build!! I kinda always wanted to build an SR-2 workstation. Too bad you can't OC LGA 2011 Xeon's (and they are EXPENSIVE!)

Agreed. The non overclocked srx is really a sad sight of lost potential.....
