Blizzard has given its firmest indication to date that Diablo 3 is coming to consoles.

While lead designer Josh Mosqueira stopped short of confirming the port out right during a Gamescom press conference today, he stated that the developer "is very, very serious about bringing the Diablo 3 experience to the console."

He added that, as reported earlier this year, Blizzard is currently in the process of recruiting a team to handle a potential console version of the action RPG sequel.

"Today, we're trying to build the best console team at Blizzard. We're looking for programmers, designers, artists who think their dream job would be to bring Diablo to the console. Trust me, it is a dream job.

"All I can say is it's going to be awesome. Stay tuned."

The PC version of the game is still without a firm release date though an open beta is expected to go live before the end of September.

Another game I'm not buying.

Not surprising. Torchlight did it, might as well do it with Diablo 3.

The PC version is still the flagship, obviously.

It would be awesome if they offered cross-platform play (ala Halo2 and Shadowrun). Doubt it, but it would be cool.

I hope it doesnt lead them to eventually develop future games for consoles 1st, PC 2nd. This is not the same Blizzard as it was before.

Sounds like they don't even have a development team for the console version as they are putting out a call to hire some. PC version already have people working on it.

For now, since the PC version was developed first, I'm not warded off. Soon as they start compromising features during cross-platform development, I'm gone.

I'm impressed how fast the taint of Activision is turning Blizzard games from guaranteed release day purchase from me (I'm usually a wait 6 months for pricing kind of guy) to not buying. There are just too many games these days, we don't have to put up with shit.

Are you guys aware that Diablo 1 was on the PS1 and Starcraft was ported to the N64?

Then there was an attempt at making Starcraft Ghost for the Gamecube/PS2.

Not to mention their numerous SNES games as well.

Blizzard has never ignored the consoles, and Diablo 3 would play perfectly on one.

Rock N' Roll Racing, baby! :D

I don't see why not.Blizzard's art style is historically pretty easy on the hardware, and Diablo's interface should translate very well to a controller. This is a good idea, as long as they keep the communities separate so we don't have to deal with all the 12 year olds.

So keeping the actual 12 year olds separate from the grown men who just act like 12 year olds then? :p

How awesome would it be to have it on the Wii? Create a Barbarian and you'll be the most fit gamer ever. :p

Whereas: Starcraft Ghost will never be finished
Whereas: Starcraft Ghost has no commercially salvageable code or graphics
Whereas: Starcraft Ghost represents a great deal of effort going to waste

Resolved: Blizzard should release it as open source and let the community have it.

Don't forget Blackthorne, they ported that one to the SNES too and it was good. I just hope the PC versions comes out first and the console version doesn't hinder its development.

WTF? You have got to be kidding.

I sure hope it doesn't diminish the gameplay or features of the PC version. Like so many other multiplatform games that have been.

They keep screwing the PC gamers. Good lord....

Its also not the same market as it was before. Companies have to adapt if they want to survive and despite what a few old timer PC gamers think ... the market is never going to be what it was in the 90s. The memories of PC gaming being the focus, the main focus are just that ... memories.

The elitist pc gamer most certainly is a dying breed, the market has changed and announcements like these are a sign of the times. By the way, for whats its worth the limited insider info I have from Blizzard staff tells me that there is dedicated staff for the PC version and that staff for the console version is just being put together. Seems like separate development teams. So settle down fellas .... but, also realize that the days of PC only are really a thing of the past and most companies are looking to maximize profits not stroke PC only gamer dongs. These companies really don't care about elitist pc gamers as much as they fantasize they do, they want them greenbacks baby.

Let us not forget that even the Witcher 2 is coming to the 360 now. Just accept it, be happy gaming or find a new hobby that doesn't warrant so much ill feelings.

An Xbox Live only title?

This will not be a DD game, it would exceed the 2GB Live Arcade cap. This will be a full retail release and who wants to take guesses that it won't force you to be online to play? My guess is the PC version will, due to rampant piracy but because Microsoft has its own set of standards that developers have to adhere to.. the Diablo 3 version for the 360 (at least) will probably work 100% offline. Just my guess. I'm sure when that news comes it'll spark a few angered threads as well :lol

Consoles have been the main focus in gaming since like 1978. There are developers who would rather focus on PC games, and developers who would rather focus on console games. Blizzard has put games on consoles more than a couple times, and probably will continue to do so. Though, their focus is obviously on the PC crowd. It's not a big deal, there are plenty of good exclusives ona ll platforms, and there are plenty of good multiplatforms.

Not everyone can afford to drop a couple grand to play the latest games every year on PC, look at mine (sig), it's ancient. That's why I have a PS3.

You've been here almost 9 years and still think you have to spend a couple grand to play Blizzard games on PC?

The PS1 Diablo port also had local co-op. I actually played it more than the PC version because of this.

OK, I was being a little sarcastic  the point being what with being married, kids, house, car payments, there is little room for extra expenses. Sure I could build a new system, no problem, but how do I justify that when there is something a little more important like house/car repairs. You know stuff I/family need to survive.

Look at my post count, its not that high.

Same. If Blizzard provides more local co-op goodness for console version of D3, I'd buy that over the PC version in a heartbeat.

You can, though... I spent about 3000usd for my sig rig (and a few things I also bought, which would of never been bought without the rig, like D3100 camera).

Though I do use my rig for more than gaming, the only game I really play is SC2.

I can see it now, delay after delay even though the PC version will be completed.

A real slap in the face would be that the console version doesn't require internet connectivity ;)

So the mere fact that they are porting it over to the console means some people don't want to play it? Wow.

I dont mind this, but I just hope it doesn't delay this game even further...it is already getting ridiculous.

Hopefully runic will get there ass in gear with torchlight II.
