So my desktop running Windows 7 currently has Windows live mail... Its really starting to tick me off... What do you guys think is the best free program. I use outlook on my laptop but trying to get Work to buy another licensee is like pulling teeth...
I was going to try Thunderbird
Any other good options?

No mention of Thunderbird? How odd... ;)

And yes, Gmail can hit and populate that account with content from regular POP3 accounts elsewhere as just mentioned above.

I've been using the TrulyMail email client for a year and I really like it. I used to use Thunderbird but I prefer having a portable version I can carry with me between work and home (and vacation, etc.).

im a thunderbird user, not sure about it being the best but its free and has some add-ons and things that tailor it to the individual

If you'd explain what exactly is ticking you off about Live Mail, people might be able to offer suggestions which would suit your preferences, rather than simply reeling off the names of email clients at random...

Agreed. Get google apps. Under 50 users and it's free.
They changed it to 10 a few months ago. I've been looking to move my personal domain from MS Live and I had Google Apps pegged but I have this feeling they intend to scrap the free service or dumb it down so much that there's no benefit.

Thanks for the update

Thunderbird all the way. Really nice client if you still are stuck needing a client.

Personally I love my google apps with online client.

There are portable versions of thunderbird that work great.

There has always been less features in the free version. They just reduced the user count. Not a big deal IMHO. Still an awesome and unparalleled service.

Some of us don't like having our mail content analyzed by corporations we don't trust.

But, that has nothing to do with using/not using a webmail system. You could have Squirrelmail or Roundcube on your own server (not shared hosting if you don't trust that) that connects to your own IMAP server (that you setup yourself using your trusted IMAP server software).

If you're using a local client with Gmail IMAP for example, you're no safer using mail.google.com.

I think you just meant that there are mail providers you don't trust, which is fine.

I'm with the original poster. I never leave messages on ANYONE's server longer than I absolutely have to.

I'm always surprised by those people who leave their messages on someone's server and when their account gets hacked they are so upset. I mean, come on! Don't leave your photo album at your friend's house if you don't want anyone else to see it. You want privacy? Take the steps to make sure you keep it.

Its nice having outlook both at work and home now, i have everything setup and syncing with both devices, I am happy :)
