I know it's only 3 reviews, But it seems pretty unreliable. The price is hot though if you get a good one!

I have one and it's running fine. Bought it almost two months ago, so I don't know how the long term is.
Usually, I only buy WD and Samsung, but this seemed good when I bought it.

Three year warranty.

Awesome. So, any particular hoops we would have to jump through to get this to work on an X58 mobo?

Yea, I was thinking this too. 3 reviews but 2 of them had high amonts of rma and failures...

In for 1 though. Super hot, and I got 1 day shipping free! sweetness in a box.

Very tempting at 3.5cents/gig. Could probably be a decent backup drive. In for one.

What's interesting is the other model 3TB 0S03086 Hitachi gets very good reviews (4.5/5 on Amazon). This particular model doesn't seem to have any reviews on a lot of sites.

This same drive gets 2 5star reviews at B&H. So it's really going to come down to the luck of the draw.

I recall early reviews saying some motherboards have issues with drives that size.

Found this

Only boards with UEFI will be able to boot to a 3TB drive, and that's only with 64 bit linux, OSX, vista or win 7. Any 32 bit OS will have problems booting to the drive and so will 64 bit XP.

And even then, the article appears to state the BIOS needs to properly support the drive to even recognize the full 3TB capacity.
If you have 64-bit Vista, 64-bit Windows 7, a Mac, 64-bit Linux, or in some cases 32-bit Linux, check to see if your system's BIOS supports 3TB. If doesn't, you'll need to obtain a BIOS update or to buy a newer motherboard that supports 3TB.

Alright, but there shouldn't be any issue using it as a secondary drive though, correct?

unfortunately all the big cheap drives are unreliable. so buy it, just have a backup plan.

I don't know honestly. From that article it sounds like you might still need a BIOS update just to use it as a secondary drive.

Ordered on Sat and got it today, yay for Amazon. Just pop it in and format, no click of death and runs whisper quiet, definitely worth for the price. :D

Ive got a 2TB deskstar that's been running fine in my server for a while

Not a bad deal but I'd hate to put everything I own on ONE 3TB drive, would much better prefer three 1TB harddrives in case one dies on me.

That's why some of us store everything on other drives and dump everything onto the huge 2-3tb drives as a backup to the primary. Besides, a single 3tb drive couldn't possibly hold my entire backup. :p

what the difference between oem and retail?
just one comes in a box?

on the side note I order it Tuesday and for some reason I got it on Wednesday

Interesting .. Amazon didn't charge me sales tax for Nevada like they always do. Did they pull their warehouse out?

I should check my other orders to see if they've been charging me sales tax.

*edit* No, looks like they stopped. They have (or had?) a warehouse in Fernley. They list having to charge sales tax where a physical presence exists.

They list: Amazon.com LLC: KS, KY, ND, NY and WA

IBM days are irrelevant, don't be ridiculous.

107$ is good considering it's retail, tho you'd be better off with 2x2TB around 120$ mark.
