Is there no good 120 hz monitor?

Planar SA2311W or Alienware AW2310, google some reviews.

yeah the BenQ is the slowest of the smaller 120hz and typically has the worst quality control while the Acer has sharpness issues and 17ms of input lag.

Cant get the Planar in Germany and the Alienware is unfortunately way too expansive, sorry!

The Asus and Samsung S27A950D are your only other options but they are both glossy.

So it seems that there is no perfect 120 hz monitor out there yet.
What about the Hanns.G HS233H3B or the upcoming AOC e2352Phz?

Has Samsung announced new 24 inch 120 hz panels?

I'm still waiting to see this 120Hz market expand and grow a bit more myself. I want to see offerings of several different panel techs up and down the size and price spectrum.

I won't buy a TN monitor and I'd prefer 16:10 if I can get it and at least 24 inches in size.

The alienware seems a pretty decent 120Hz, unfortunately is a bit on expensive side. Wish they do a dent box for this monitor :D.

there really is no good 120hz monitor
all are having more or less significant problems
the best all-around maybe the viewsonic vx2268wm

Better than the Samsung 22inch 120 hz?

Doubt it, I have a 2233rz and have been using it for 18 months or so. My friend has the viewsonic and we've both played CS 1.6 at both places. We both tend to prefer my samsung over the viewsonic.

TN panel tech and 120hz just hasnt really changed much since we started seeing these 120hz displays back in 2009.

which asus?

There is only 1, the VG236H.

The 2233rz has terrible colors and requires calibration to get rid of the blue tint. TFT Central and PRAD report the same thing.

I have owned the Samsung 2233rz, S27A950D and Asus VG236H. The Asus is easily the best. The 2233rz required calibration, which was a pain and the black level suffered to get rid of the blue tinting, was not a fan of the medium AG coating (dirty whites).

I got lucky, my Asus has 0 backlight bleeding, colors are accurate out of the box and the contrast ratio is around 950:1, which gives it the edge of the 950D. The Alienware uses the same panel as the Asus, but is matte.

@The OP, play games with sound and the Acers buzzing should not be a problem?

All 120hz+ HDTV's have fake/interpolated 120hz and not true 120hz.

no such thing. they are 60hz w/ interpolated frames, like ghost frames to smooth things out in a sense.

While true, you'd think if they have a panel that is displaying a 120Hz signal and the processing power to generate a 120Hz signal from a 60Hz source that they could just allow a 120Hz input ...

I don't understand the comments regarding the Alienware...

I just checked the price on amazon for the Asus VG236H, and it's near $500. Google shows a lowest price of $440.

The Alienware aw2310 has been around $400, and I just checked now and it's $370 direct from Dell.

*edit* I was mistaken; The price of the $500 Asus on Amazon includes the nvidia 3d package, which is usually around $130. Just the monitor itself is $330.

What do you mean it is the slowest?

BTW I have the LG W2363D OP and I can answer questions about that I picked it because it was suppose to be one of the fastest but there is something I cannot put my finger on I do not like, I have come from the world of CRTs. And of course the answer to your question is no, all LCDs SUCK. The question is more which one has the least problems for you use. This sucks cause back in the day of CRTs it was more like what can you afford and you will just get something better if you spend more. But with LCDs that is not the case.

On the issue of 120hz TV's If you cant tell that it has the interpolated screens idk whats wrong with your eyes, They all look like they are in fast forward to me so ill stick with my DLP.

Ahh I thought you meant 27"

I know that; you guys don't get it. The panels themselves still refresh at 120 Hz - otherwise it wouldn't be possible to insert the interpolated frames (although black frame insertion would obviously still be possible). The only thing missing from them is an input processor that will take a 120 Hz signal.

Obviously the response time isn't going to be nearly as good as a TN panel, but it'll still be a big improvement as far as sample and hold blur goes - and that's what 120 Hz is all about.

motion interpolation in hdtvs increases motion blur significantly

motion interpolation in hdtvs increases motion blur significantly

Uhhhh.... No.

Unless you're talking about artifacts, the whole point of frame interpolation is to reduce sample and hold blur from fixed frame rate sources (120 Hz also gives the opportunity to reduce judder on 24 fps films when used with interpolation or eliminate it completely without). Of course,we all know that the interpolation is often not wanted (nor even an improvement if the cinematographer used appropriate slower shutter speeds [really, wider with an angular shutter]) for movies.

But for high (narrow) shutters speeds where motion isn't blurred already, interpolation can and does decrease motion blur as a result of reducing sample and hold blur.

The same applies to video games that can be rendered at any speed. We don't need interpolation because we can produce a true unique frame every time, but other than the lack of artifacts that you get from interpolation the effect is the same - sample and hold blur is reduced by half by doubling the frame rate. In terms of perceived reduction it's even more than a halving.

have you ever seen how an interpolated frame looks?
its a complete blur that has little to do with the following frame

what motion interpolation really does is making the picture look more fluid at the cost of detail while also increasing input lag

Not talking about input lag.

Most of the 60hz panels are faster, flat panels HD also says it ghosts.

Why are you continuously trying to deceive people here? I've proven to you and you accepted the proof long time ago that this is not the case with current revisions. Others have confirmed the same for you as well here on [H]:

Definately looks better, so I guess I stand corrected don't I. Good that they fixed the newer units.

I doubt you could even get a V002 new from the store even if you tried very hard.

I thought we had settled this.

i got another vx2268wm today and i'm very pleased

- really good colors for a tn
- good backlight homogeneity with minimal bleed
- not reflective, mild ag
- only 1 frame input lag and it does 125hz
- superior 16:10 ratio
- thin bezel

only downsides:
- it hums
- needs software calibration (lowering the gamma) to look good
- fast but blurs more than the 120hz lg

it's the first 120hz tft that i'm actually gonna keep
i just hope i can remove the hum

Hah. Funny. I love my XL2410T, and recommend others buying one too. I get accused for getting paid by BenQ. I'm starting to wonder if NCX is being paid by someone else to trash BenQ products. WHAT IS YOUR TRUE COLOR NCX?! :)
