You may need to give it the proper drivers for your SATA controller.

The bad news is, in windows XP setup, you have to do this from a floppy.

You may want to use something like n-lite to create a slipstream XP CD with the SATA drivers included and install from that, and revert back to AHCI mode, because otherwise you have to change the controller mode every time you want to boot the other OS.

Thanks for the info skruideli. will give it a try.. can't find drivers on mb cd, going to purchase usb floppy.

this should work if you are using the intel ports on the board:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...oductProduct=Intel®+6+Series+Chipset&lang=eng

If you are using the 6G ports on the board, you should use the Marvell driver from the Asus website download links (under SATA for this board)

N-Lite should allow you to add said driver to a new CD image for XP, so that you can burn your own copy with the necessary SATA drivers.

Did you know that Windows XP x86-64 is not supported properly or at all by almost anything new these days? The Windows XP motherboard drivers are only for the 32-bit versions to begin with. Windows XP x86-64 is not truly Windows XP - but is actually Windows Server 2003 repurposed for workstation use.

You are right, Windows xp 64 bit is a bit of a hack job from microsoft and you may find yourself at a lack of all kinds of drivers and software to support it.

Personally I would avoid using it at all cost.
