This just started recently where the task bar shows the ethernet icon with the red x and I'm not connected to ethernet but WiFi and I have a WiFi connection. Any idea how to correct this wrong icon issue?

Why is it a wrong icon? If you don't have anything plugged into the ethernet port, then it's by definition disconnected. If it really bothers you, hide the icon or disable the interface.

And seriously, don't fucking bump your post after 30 minutes for a ridiculously trivial issue. You'd expect with 10 years experience on these forums that you'd have better sense.

Appreciate the response but it wasn't 30 minutes.

Yes, it's not significant and I got into a hurry this a.m. My bad! Clearly this has never happened to you.

Funny.... an article came out this morning about people having this attitude in forums. Do you really think it's necessary to respond the way you did? I'm blown away by people's attitudes in forums some times and the need to approach people in this matter. Makes it easy when you're anonymous. Anyone can make their point without the attitude. Looks like the issue may be fixed now. After researching and trying multiple things the fix was going into the device manager and uninstalling both the WiFi and LAN adapters. The LAN adapter reinstalled immediately after being uninstalled (not using LAN connection) and the WiFi re-enabled after a reboot and all appears well for now.

The problem was that the WiFi icon was not showing in the task bar and instead (in error - you can search and see that people have had this issue come up and the fixes are various) the LAN icon was with a red X. I'm not setup to show a disconnected LAN connection. Only what network connection is in use.

Again, agreed this is not a priority issue and I should have waited. I saw that my thread had dropped off the first page and figured it would be passed over. My bad.

you would expect with 9.9 yrs experience on these forums that you'd know how to properly read the post date/time

I know at times on my laptop, the system tray icons get wonky and usually a simple reboot resolves the issue.
although I don't think I've experienced the particular issue you had.

Whoops, indeed (Even though it's been a while, my brain is still used to the old vbul layout). Although a bump after 10 hours, still on the front page (edit: at default forums settings) and still to hit everyone during the work day is excessive, but not deserving the intensity of my original response.
