Can I do any better? $800 build.

This is a gaming build for my buddy in Iowa. $800 is probably the highest he would go all in.

he is looking to order within the next week or so.

He doesn't want to oc but will probably unlock the cores if possible.

Its a brand new build, so nothing being re-used, save the kb mouse headset.

He doesn't care about crossfire/sli. The parts I chose represent what he needs. I just cant find any decent combo deals for comparable stuff to lower the price.

Since he will be gaming on the 20" below could he get away with a 5770?

I know I didn't answer the exact sticky(looks at Danny_Bui ) but this is pretty much what he needs but am open to suggestions

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103932 is a quad-core, of which I'm a fan plus it makes you feel macho to say "Quad Core!!" and with the promo code it's $6 cheaper than the MIR and combo discount, then spend like $12-14 on a Coolermaster HSF for basically a free step up from dual to quad. Or if you like stock HSFs, there's always people looking to offload brand new ones.

At $800, I would almost say go for an i5 2400 instead. Yes, they're a little more, but the i5 2400 kicks the ever-living crap out of the AMD chips, even their top of the line X6 (hell, even an i3-2100 can beat it on certain occasions). There is an i5-2300, but it's only like $5 cheaper. Benchmarks here and here to see what I mean. Yes, the cost is a litte bit more, but it will perform much better. If you feel the price point for an i5-2400 is a bit too high, then at least go with an AMD Phenom II X4 955 instead.

Also, ditch the WD Blue hard drive for a Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB. They're the fastest non-SSD hard drives out there, and are very cheap, and will kick the crap out of the WD Blue drive you've chosen.

Very nice. hossdaddy, I'd highly recommend going with this over your current potential build. That Phenom II X2 555 is just very underwhelming.

I like where you are going with that Tonyt but it is sacrificing some things I was hoping not to such as usb 3, sata3. Also dropping from Asus to entry level Biostar isnt really floating my boat tbh. Thanks for the replies guys keep it coming we have time yet
