Any Dual Cores... how fast each core?

Hi, say you have Intel Dual Core 2.5GHz, is it 2.5GHz per core, thus 5GHz in all, or 2.5GHz in all, and thus 1.25GHz in each core??
 
Actually it is 2 cores running at 2.5GHz. But you do not add them together. Programs see two cores at 2.5GHz each and use them accordingly.
Someone else can probably explain this better than I.
 
You pretty much summed it up in a nutshell CrazyV. The speed listed is the speed per core, you don't add or multiply them together.
 
Reminds me of all the eBay auctions with people spouting 8GHz-12GHz+ CPUs as they add the core speeds together.
 
Lol Think of it this way if to cars are racing going 150 mph do you say the cars are going 300? No you would say the race is going 150mph. This might have been a fail explination.
 
But if you had one car that had two 300hp engines, would you say it had 300hp or 600hp?

In processor terminology, you would have an x2 300hp car :p

Frequency is speed. Processor terminology would be two engines at 5000rpm.

Yeah that makes sense, two engines at 5000rpm produce 300 hp and are capable of doing seperate tasks and due to the two working in tandem it can do more work than a 600 hp engine.

And newer architetures are kinda like new engines based off old designs with a added turbo or suppercharger or ECT.
