Frustrated... Need Another Monitor Pick

Well, I've had/will be returning both a Samsung PX2370 (1 dead pixel plus major backlight bleeding in bottom right hand corner) and an HP 2509b (2 dead pixels plus having a hard time reading text on it). Can anyone give me any other suggestions for FPS gaming? I'd prefer to get something that can be bought at Walmart, Best Buy, Sams, or Amazon (Amazon must be the seller) as it's just so much easier to return if I find dead pixels.

I don't care about budget anymore, lets say $450 max. Minimum size is 23". Just has to be good for FPS. Thanks for any help.
 
Well, may just order another Samsung PX2370. If it was 100% clean and working then I definitely would have kept it.
 
The Acer GD235HZ is supposed to be pretty good. The GN model is said to fix a few of the minor complaints, but I am not sure when it will be released state side.

I started a thread asking about that model. Definitely thinking about it after my second new Samsung PX2370 came with dead pixels AGAIN
 
A few other choices:
BenQ XL2410T, Acer GN245HQ, LG W2363D, Asus VG236H, Alienware AW2310

The XL2410T is a great monitor. I process this point mainly because of its functional use and performance as a serious gaming monitor. The Asus I've listed is a cheaper alternative that has many of the same functions as the BenQ and you should definitely check out as well. What I love about the BenQ is that they did a really good job constructing a robust monitor that is suitable for gaming. It's heavy, yet extremely sturdy thanks to its large base frame. The monitor also has axis rotation and wall mount. One of the most useful features that my friends love is that you have the option of changing your display orientation from widescreen to 4:3 with the OSD. You also have option of picture by picture mode, my friend uses this to play online poker and watch his shows simultaneously haha.

The Asus pretty much has all, but is cheaper. The build isn't as great as the BenQ, but its a sure steal if you're looking for bargain. I'm pretty sure the Asus also comes with LED backlit like the BenQ. The Alienware is also built very well, and was the one of the earliest into the 120hz race. However the AW doesn't have LED backlit. Some people don't prefer LED backlit, so it can be an option worth taking as well!
 
Joe is in love with BenQ, hence the extreme constant gushing over either the XL240T and EW2420, despite them having probably the worst rep in terms of quality control out of the 120hz and VA monitors.

-LED backlighting is marketing BS. Manufactures save money, we get slimmer monitors with worse screen uniformity and pay more.

-A sturdy stand? Serisouly? What about image quality, default color presets, speed....so much fail. The XL240T is very inconisitent across reviews in terms of color quality and has tons of bad rep regarding the backlighting

The Acer GD has a ton of issues, the main ones being the 18ms of input lag and overdrive that messes up text, which can only be turned off in the Service Menu. Check out the big thread

The Alienware is typically expensive, nothing wrong with it, but the Matte Planar SA231W is better. If you want Glossy the Asus VG236H Review is the way to go.
 
They're QC is not the greatest and it really is sad. It's one thing to claim they have poor QC, but its another to use that and set their 'poor' performing units as the benchmark for the rest.

LED backlighting has its pros and definitely its cons. I never claimed its the best. I prefer it, as I do find it slightly brighter, saves energy, makes thinner displays, and produces less eye strain. Of course most mainstream LED backlit for LCD under 24" uses WLED which to some and on some monitors actually degrade picture and color quality, is definitely a con. However I am merely putting it out there for those to decide :D

Eh! I like the stand. You go and count on your fingers how many brands out there make 'sturdy' and 'robust' gaming monitor stands. NOT THAT MANY. So yes, I like mine. I can't have my say?

Picture quality and color presets? Mine and the ones I've seen looked great. There are owners out there that like what they see as well. NCX, you had 1 bad experience with your XL2410T. Stop being such a sour puss.

Backlight bleeding is also extremely over exaggerated in many cases. Not saying the first batch of the XL's didn't have a problem with that. But in all honesty, I think a lot of cases of backlight bleeding are exaggerated.

The Acer and Alienware use the same panel. Is the firmware that much better on the AW? The Asus seems to have worse colors and response time than both the AW/Acer.
 
I have not read about any of the issues found on the Acer GD on the Alienware, best to do some googling.

The Asus's colors are just as good once set to "Warm," apparently, and with its Glossy screen, and it will provide the most vibrant colors, at the price of relfections. Flat Panels HD also found that it had the best out of the box colors in the sRGB Mode.

All of the 120hz monitors except the reviewed BenQ XL,Acer HN274 and Acer GD with its 18ms of input lag are so fast it does not really matter.

Yeah,, I don't want a BenQ. I've just read too many horror stories on here and other sites.
 
Also, I'm not so big on glossy screens. Hmm... I wish the alienware would go on a better sale. Or the Planar was available from someone trustworthy.

Yeah, it's hard. My last monitor was a Dell 2407wfp or something like that. It was 1200p, which I'm only now starting to really lament losing.
 
alienware went UP by $50 overnight. I had it in my cart too. BOO DELL!

Ah... I don't know about the Planar. I called their tech support and their dead pixel policy is terrible. The dead pixels have to be at least an inch off the screen and there have to be at least 3 bundled together. Blah! There should be NO dead pixels in a new product. It's like the acceptable amount of rat feces in a hot dog. It SHOULD be zero but it isn't.

I can't understand why Dell would jack up all of their monitor prices right before a major holiday. It's just really strange!

And I'm still very lost. I have NO monitor in my house so I can't even use my newly-built gaming PC.
 
I know it may not be a super popular opinion, but I do really like the Dell P series...at least in terms of price and general quality. I have a P2411 which is very solid. My primary is a U2711 which I think works fine for FPS and such (despite some minor "tearing"). YMMV.

I've heard good things about Hazro as well. Acer and Asus just tend to be really hit or miss on quality control and there is just a ridiculous amount of variance between monitors of the same model.

Agreed! By the way, I don't think we have Hazro here in the states.
 
I got in on the sale Dell had on the Alienware AW2310t.

I am not that impressed with it. The old 120Hz Viewsonic my son has is comparable and is a lot less money. The lightbleed on the Alienware is bad. For $279 or less this is a good monitor, the way it is being sold though it is over priced and you are paying for the name.

I will keep this monitor for my 3D vision games and I will continue to use my Sony FW900 CRT for everything else.
 
Hazro recently started shipping in the states...I think the warranty stuff is a bit more wary...but not bad.

Just like you almost always shit on the BenQ XL2410T every chance you get? You claim it's so bad because all of these "terrible reviews" yet I wonder... have you ever owned one?

They did admittedly have issues during first production, but since December most of these issues are pretty much non-existent. And given the 3 year warranty, it's fairly easy to RMA to one of these fixed units.

Bought the Alienware OptX AW2310 from Dell on eBay ($70 cheaper than on the dell website at the moment). Man, I hope I get a clean monitor without any dead pixels!
