There have been tidbits of information floating around the net regarding Dell's 2011 Mainstream (M) Ultrasharp range, and it's set to be officially unveiled next month. What we know so far:

* 16:10 aspect ratio
* 1920x1200 resolution
* e-IPS panel
* white LED backlit

I have reliable info that the so called 'U2412HM' doesn't exist. H denotes 16:9 aspect ratio.

There will be U2312HM and U2212HM monitors for those that prefer 16:9. This thread isn't the place to discuss them though.

Release is scheduled for Q3. Nothing more specific than that yet.

U2711 is indeed too new.

> What others features would you like to see in the U2412M?

A complete set of inputs: VGA, DVI, HDMI, displayport
Bonus points for component, s-video, composite

A full glossy (like the Apple) version for those (like me) who need glossy.
An AG version for those who prefer AG.

VESA mount (why did Dell leave it out of the ST2220T ?)

24p, 25i
backlight blanking (for persistence-of-vision)

acceptable honest (worst case) response time numbers
No RTC artifacts (assuming it uses RTC)

good build quality, no tinting, no backlight bleed, no stuck (sub)pixels

FLOSS firmware (assuming it has firmware)

On display in brick&mortar stores so we can see what it looks like.

1:1 pixel mapping if driven at less than native res
bonus points for available integer-only scaling of low-res input
(no scaling artifacts or stretching) (e.g. 640x480 from firmware)

external power supply, so if it fails we can replace it without
replacing the display

Feel free to leave out: card reader, usb hub, speakers
Maybe offer an optional module with this stuff for those who want it.

>> What others features would you like to see in the U2412M?

Also: true 8 bit color, no 6 bits plus dithering/FRC

> e-IPS panel??? Booo....

Get Panasonic to make the panel rather than LG ?

I'm looking for 2 portrait monitors at 1920x1200 resolution: is QC on U2410 really so bad?

Would you wait for U2412 ... or which alternative is there to portrait U2410?

u2412HM's panel will the first 24" cheaper 16:9 panel !
is not 16:10 and 1920 x 1200 ! :mad:

That doesn't seem to line up with previous info, but I hope it is correct. I would like a decent second 1920x1200 panel.

Otherwise if the other info is true this looks like a shift downmarket, with a cheaper panel. The price should drop accordingly.

well, at least we can all agree that U2412M driver exists. But nothing official about U2412HM at all. So U2412M is much more real than U2412HM

the 16:10 format production is much expensive, and the E-IPS is a cheaper version of IPS.
for 16:10 usually use high end IPS type.

That makes no sense, It's only more expensive because you cant use the panel for any other than monitors (as opposed to tvs as well). They can make a e-ips panel at any aspect ratio. Just look at the Dell 2209wa, it's 16:10 and has an e-ips panel. Dumb.

im wondering if I should buy another U2311H or wait for one of these...The more I read the more I think I will go with plan A

U2412HM will be 16:9 1920x1080 !

U2412HM will be 16:9 1920x1080 ! it's not a supposition but is a fact !
any rumors say the contrary. :rolleyes:

Do you have a source or anything to back that "fact" up? The OP is saying there will in fact not be an U2412HM but rather an U2412M that is 1920x1200. HP ZR24w and NEC 2490wuxi2 are both "E-IPS", don't see what is so strange about that.

I may of found my next monitor if this is true. I wanted a U2410, but it is out of my price range. This would be perfect being on the cheaper side with an IPS+16:10. If this has no scaling issues with a PS3 hook up like the ZR24W. I just want to setup all my stuff to my monitor when I get back to my dorm in the fall.

All news say this ! U2412HM will be 16:9, not exist any contrary news, only your blow.

You speak but do you have a source or anything to confirm your opinion ?
I have the rumors and news and you ?
:rolleyes:

I actually used to be pretty bullish on 16:10, but really if you do the math, 2x 27" 16:9 displays are more pixels than 3x 24" 16:10.

3x Dell U2410: 6,912,000 pixels
2x Dell U2711: 7,372,800 pixels, and a bit more vertical space!

I don't really have an opinion on this, you are the one stating facts based on rumors. Just saying.

I have the rumors and news and you ?
:rolleyes:

Well there is the OP who says he has reliable info from a Dell employee that the U2412HM doesn't exist and that the U2412M will be 16:10. So that's another rumor for ya ;)

what is OP ?
dell u2412hm not exist ? WOW !
we will buy a new S-PLS monitors, wher is the problem ? this alleged 2412HM is interesting because we hope that it will be the firts 24" cheap IPS monitor, if it is not so..................will be only a upgrade like u22 and u23, not interesting for desktop, i dont pay for a aggressive coating :eek:

I currently have a U2410 and the U3011 will be my next monitor. Had Eyefinity before and I really didn't have any use for it beyond gaming.

None of the U2412HM news are official. But there is an official driver for U2412M.

As of right now..any official information related to the U2412 is a driver for U2412M on dell website. There hasn't been any official information about a U2412HM yet.

So, if people choose not to believe in the existence of U2412HM, they are very sane in doing so. It's your choice to believe the rumors, please repspect others if they don't.

Fact: rumors =/= truth =/= reliable

have u eyefinity whit Nvidia ? WOW ! :D

And there's no point lighting fires everywhere, especially when you fail to understand what others are saying. You are making a fool out of yourself. He said he had eyefinity BEFORE.

yeah i still feel that its a step back. i dont think their a point in upgrading to a 27" might as well shoot for the stars and go 30" jumping from a 22-24 is a big diff especially ratio and pixel pitch and type of panel.

i would either go U2410 or HP Z series and not downgrade. but when they do thats if they do release the U2412 we will obviously get a review on how the quality of the screen is from pixels to ratio and so forth.

if u2412 will be only M and not HM, the panel used cant be a E-IPS ( cheper ) :mad:

Yea I was hoping the price of U2410 would drop when U2412 comes out, but seeing the possible downgrade on U2412, it seems unlikely the U2410 would become any cheaper.

because not exist E-IPS 16:10 LG panel.
16:10 is only for professional monitor, and this must have a P-IPS or H-IPS ( same thing ).
10 / 12 bit for channel anche high coverage gamut, not a loser 6bit whit 95-97% coverage and low visible angle.
