Indeed. Thinking back to games like Half Life, you also had to use turrets and such there, but it was an occasional thing and didn't really interrupt the pacing of the game. Other than the @#$# portal part, of course :)

yes it is. I played one private match of CTB (CTF?) and immediately went back to single player. It was that awful.


I still can't believe that gearbox shipped the game with the MP included. Hopefully it gets a little love in a future patch. It's almost unplayable as is.
 
Campaign was awesome. I enjoyed the hell out of this game. Im going through a second time right now on the hardest diffuculty. Only part I didnt enjoy too much was the driving level and constantly getting gas. Id give the game 83/100 if I had to review it. If you love duke. You should Love this game.
 
Multiplayer was made by a totally different company wasn't it? It was just tacked on like much of this game.
 
I really wanted to like this game. But man the two weapons and limited ammo really pissed me off. The pipbombs and such helped. These two weapon system is something Modern Warfare uses. Duke Nukem is all about one man army with tons of weapons. I don't want to say this game is the worst I have played. I have played worse. But man this game I can't even recommend to casual people. It's a very below average game. I really wish I could return this and get my money back. Not worth the prmium price.

Its been "official" for a while. No game spends that kind of time in development and comes out the other end anything else but a turd sandwich.

The demo was the first bad sign , people were generally disappointed.
 
All these sites are ripping this game apart based on its surface value, but every site then has pages and pages of people who are playing the game and having a blast while doing it. Get over yourself and have fun.

I'm greatful we got to see what things were worked on all this time. There are moments of genius in there like the attention to detail on the very first RC car part where you have to put around the reactor core, the pool table, the pinball game. 3dRealms got carried away with these parts to spite the rest of the game. Love how you can interact with everything.

Hate the non player models, even in the 2001 trailer the NPCs had moving eyes and good facial animations. Not sure what went wrong here.

KeyboardG must work for the developer, cause he just wants us to get over ourselves and have fun... maybe you should make a better game then.

I'd buy the game when it hits bargain bin too. At $50 it really does suck... yet we really saw it coming, somewhere deep down.
 
I can't wait till next year steam sale. I'll save $5 just for you, Duke.

Honestly, by Christmas it will be $20-$25 and $7-$13 early next year.

If HardOCP was a person that wouldn't work. Tell a person that and the response will be "Go fuck yourself", tell HardOCP that and the response will be "Go fuck yourself", just multiple times :p
 
I'm still liking the game.. Yea it doesn't look pretty but it's still fun. I'll Finish it and probaly play it through again to try the hardest setting. I dont have to have pretty graphics to enjoy a game. Hell I found my old cd case with diablo 1 in it lol Played that for a few hours last week. Most of the games I have played here lately look pretty but the game play is crappy as hell. Like the new doungen seige 3. Think I'm just getting feed up with gamming in my old age. Guess thats why my PC has been folding It's ass off for the past week.
 
I bought the game, at full price, and after finishing it... I really felt it was worth it.

Originally I was pissed, I kept thinking I paid $50 for this crap? Damn you steam and your no refunds.

But as the levels progressed, I remembered what made the original duke fun ... and this game captures all of it. The AI stinks, the weapons are limited, but the world is alive around you with many things to use and play. So many juvenile one liner jokes that cracked a smile across my face. Satire making fun of other successful games. Some of the battles were challenging even with the dumb AI.

If you want to go at the game all serious, expecting some modern miracle game like some other FPS's that are out, you will be dissapointed. If you shut your brain off for an evening or two, and just enjoy a game with very little challenge, but lots of humour (like bulletstorm) you will enjoy it as it's ment to be.
 
Why does the multiplayer have to be utter crap? It's like it was an afterthought....

I would feel a lot better about my purchase if the MP were better. I really enjoyed the campaign, but get the feeling DNF will be heavily discounted by mid-July

I am going to play through some more tonight since you suggest it will be better as you move forward, but I don't see it happening. Keeping an open mind. :(
 
Thanks for the honest reviews guys, I'll look for it on the clearance endcap at Target in a few months when nobody is buying. This one will come in pretty cheap it seems.
 
i have played and finished dnf it has its flaws but at the end of the day its is entertaining and was well worth it for a change of pace from cookie cutter shooters
 
I did playthrough the thing and I actually love the cheesy one-liners. I am glad that Duke did not turn gentleman on us.

The first thing that should be done to make the game 10% better, as many of us have stated, is to mod the thing so that you can use all the weapons at any time. That's what we 'expect' from a guy with balls of steel that stated how that power armors are for pussies.

Agreed... multiplayer seems to be all about who can get the devistator first. After that it's all over. As for heavily discounted, that's a given... since even popular games these days are heavily discounted after a month or two (in stores... steam takes longer). Hell portal 2 was half price 2 weeks after launch.

I am so jaded I'm not even going to buy BF3 on release day because I don't think the game will work properly. The Duke just proves how shitty the game industry is and how hype is more important than anything when you want a game to make money. You can also blame all the people who believe in the culture of preorders.
 
Just finished DNF. it's ok. Not great but not unplayable (at least on PC). If you didn't buy it yet wait for a Steam sale to knock $20 off it. I'm just thankful that I got to play it rather than watch all of the videos post 3DRealms shutdown and wish I was playing it.

I'd give it 7/10 rating wise. Personally it irks me that Daikatana is actually scoring better than DNF on GameRankings. DNF might not be great but Daikatana was virtually unplayable out of the box.
 
Take out the regen health, limited weapons carry, and the stupid first 15 mins you have to spend without a gun, IN A SHOOTER GAME and you may have an OK game, but not worth the 50$ they are asking. Its just an over-hyped consol trashed game that killed off a great IP. Next up, Shadow Warrior! Lo Wangs revenge!
