[YourNewCase] SUGO ... 5! GO!

cpu cooler, i was potentially thinking of an h50 (or other varient depending on size) which could possibly choke out the psu if a higher end graphics card was used.

i did make a thread a while ago about my mobo/heatsink choice/and my q08, similar answers were produced (mainly toward the axp140 but hard to get hold of in uk) also to note, my ram is ocz gold, so no crazy heat spreaders just standard ones :)

also id forgotten my proc was a 95w max. Handy!

I have the same board. The H50 is a nice fit but you need to use 2.5" drives only.

Also you need to add some cooling for the VRMs and powercircuitry, I have 2 of these boards die otherwise (both were auto overclocked by the ABS software) I added an 80mm fan blowing across the case and it did it.

You shouldn't overclock past 150BLCK with your CPU. Otherwise you'll be fine

I'm curious if this psu would fit in the SG05 as a replacement for the Silverstone ST45SF. It looks to be about the same size.

http://www.directron.com/m7520dm.html

I'm not sure though if it would work for itx mobos. I figured I'd ask the more knowledgable folks.

It's not the same size, it's regular ATX

No...

# Dimensions:
- 5"(W) x 2.5"(H) x 4.75"(D)

ATX is 5.9" x 3.4" x varies
SFX is 4.92" x 2.5" x 3.93"

So it's pretty close to SFX in size, just a bit deeper.

The two 12v rails are rated at 15a each though, so at most 12v will be limited to 30a, though probably less. Compare the Silverstone ST45SF at 36a on the 12v.

Not owning this case my guess is the size is close enough that it will probably fit.

I'm going with a modular Silverstone Strider Plus as I've seen it's a working ATX mod. I'll post pics

Hi

I'm a newbie planning my first build around the SG05, and would appreciate a few pointers from experienced users.

I intend to use an external USB DVD drive and an SSD. Would it be possible to mount the 2.5" SSD in the space meant for the internal DVD drive, perhaps using two screws on just one side? If this is feasible, can all the unused PSU cables be stuffed into the casing meant for the 2.5" disk drive?

The 3.5" drive cage will be removed.

I'm hoping that this setup, if achievable, would improve airflow and simplify cable management.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

If you're going to remove the 3.5 tray you're not gonna have trouble managing cables. I'd stuff the cables on the ODD tray and use the 2.5" tray as intended. I have 3 2.5" drives (SSD + 2 500GB WD Scorpios) on my SG05, SSD in the tray and the others are suspended using rubber bands from the screws on the first drive's tray :D

which way the psu fan blow? does it blow out of the fan vent or suck in?
thanks

For you guys with h50 how are setting up the fans for the radiator? So with the the pus upside down your sucking air from outside the case?

more to come...

I managed to stuff a 3.5", 2.5", and slim ODD in mine with no cable management troubles. When I took out the drive cages to mount, I routed the PCI-E cables in the frame of the case. However, after you put the drive cage back in, you won't be able to move the cables much. SATA power fit just fine since I had to use a slim SATA to molex adapter anyway. The 3rd SATA power connector off the bundled 450w PSU sits on the left side of the case, adjacent the ODD. The molex connectors are up along the right side of the ODD. I tucked the SATA data cables up into the extra space between the 2.5" drive and its mounts.

Will post some pictures here soon.

I'm envious of you guys that are able to get the H50 to fit without losing the ODD tray. I've tried so many ways, but just can't get it to fit without putting the fan on the outside of the case. Maybe it's because I don't have a 12mm thick fan? Or maybe because I still need the 3.5" bay in order to have a total of 3 x 2.5" HDDs...

Right now I'm using the Samuel-17 with the fan pointed up and a slim 80mm fan on the side vent to help the PSU fan with pulling the hot air out. But I wish I could get my temps lower.

You don't need a 12mm fan. Also you don't need the 3.5" bay to have 3x2.5" you can do this:

Rubber bands are so wonderful :D

I don't think I'd want to hang more than one drive like that... but I could hang a 3.5 to 2.5 adapter holding two drives like that...well maybe :)

I have 2 that way, SSD on the bay, 2 HDDs on hanging (each with it's own rubber band and it actually made it sturdier after I added the second one)

anyone install a vandal power switch on this case

The SG06 has a shallow switch much more inline with what you are looking for (I haven't read your sig or checked your posts to see if you already have a SG05 or are still looking for a case). I was pleasantly surprised when I got my SG06, after having two SG05 cases. It's not as deep as the switch you are looking at, however.

yea i have the sg05 so your saying the switch depth is too deep for the case?

SG05, probably just have to mod the two front pieces of the front panel - iirc, it uses a small PCB, so you'll have to take that into account. SG06, it should work outright. Behind the front buttons of the SG05/SG06 cases, their internal cages have a cutout that allows for some nice button moddin. That being said, IMHO, the SG06 is easier to mod with a different button than the SG05 is, due to the existing buttons used already.

It surely isn't impossible. It just may take a *little* bit of work.

Careful using ordinary rubber bands. They'll dry out and fatigue over time, then snap.

A regular check during maintenance cleaning should reveal any wear of the rubber bands I would think. Maybe have to replace them once a year at most? Assuming you use good quality rubber bands of the right size.

I found a way to squeeze in a Vortex Plus in my SG05. It just fit although I replaced the fan with a slim 92mm to have a bit more room.

is the sg06 just a sg05 with a different front?

yep. Well.... the SG06 also moved the reset button to the back of the case, and the front power button is, IMO, better. The front panel's silverstone logo is also unremoveable, unlike the SG05.

I just bought one of these cases with the 450w psu and after moving everything into the SG05 from a Lian Li PC-Q06 tesrt bench the damn thing wouldn't power up. The PSU was dead so I sent it back and I'm waiting for the replacement.
I have two questions 1) how good is the 450w psu? and 2) my 5870 is too long what's the best gpu that'll fit in the SG05? I was going to get a GTX 470 since they're so cheap right now ($191) but will it fit and is it too power hungry for a 450w psu? what about a 560TI? Thanks in advance

You should look at this thread and maybe explain your problem there. There is a Silverstone rep watching it (and sometimes chiming in) and trying to help figure out the 450w problem some people are having.
