Does a game being "kiddy" effect your decision to play it?

Say Pokemon or some other "kiddy" game. Last night a friend stated he didn't like Little Big Planet because it was kiddy. Doesn't effect me at all really, as long as the gameplay is fun I'd play a hello kitty game, hell, I remember buying Piglets Big Game for the NGC as a joke on a friend then actually enjoying it. What about you?

Yea it affects my decision... I've heard that ANY of the lego games are badass, but haven't touched a single one... there's just plenty of other games which cater to my desires, and with limited time...

i play for achievement points. ive played some weird games and Ive played some i never normally wouldn't try that ended up being good or ones ive liked.

No.

Loved Mario Galaxy, Zelda Twilight Princess, and really liked the lego games, just haven't had time.

Thoroughly enjoyed World of Goo, hmmm and probably something else in the near past.

It all depends on whether or not it is challenging or not and how far kiddy it is. I absolutely loved LBP, The game had an irresistable charm to it and it was a solid platformer with a wealth of unlockables and a cool level editor. My brother laughed at me for having such a game in my collection.

The Ratchet and Clank series is one of my all time favorite and is kiddy looking but anyone that plays it knows that its just pure awesome.

I thought it mattered but then I played world of warcraft for 6 years... I always hated the gfx..how did that happen. Also I love Worms (the games stay with me). I don't like anime though but I don't hate it either.

Yes and no. An overall theme that is geared toward young kids will generally ward me off of games, because most generally suck. However, if someone suggests I try such a game because it's well made and the game play is enjoyable, I've got no problem with it. But yes, I do tend to avoid them just like I avoid tv shows and movies geared toward young children... but every now and then one comes around that is decent enough.

Fun is all that matters.

Hell, I kind of want to play those new Kinect games that Microsoft showed at E3.

Nope. I think Zelda: Wind Waker has one of the best art styles and atmosphere ever. The Lego games that I've played have been fun as well. I think I'd get depressed if everything I played looked like Gears of War or Fallout 3.

As I've grown older, I found myself not liking Nintendo's games more and more, just because they weren't mature enough to suit my tastes.

Pretty much the same reason I can't even enjoy G or PG rated movies anymore, they simply don't have the kind of experience on the screen that I desire to watch.

I NEED mature themed subjects, whether it's games, books, television, music, or movies. Anything else just falls by the wayside.

Depends. League of Legends has kiddish style graphics that looks like they belong in some Anime, but the game is fun as hell and has complex gameplay.

Cliffs: graphics I don't care, but I don't want simple kiddy gameplay.

That's true, I love League of Legends, that's a great game, I don't think it's "kiddie" but it's certainly not "mature" either, it's somewhere in between.

I'm a little jealous of the fact that you have so much free time, you can waste it on playing shitty games just for achievement points.

Not at all. I'll give any game that is fun a shot. Played and enjoyed both Little Big Planet games and Recettear and Deathspank and many others. Being a realistic brown shooter is not at all a requirement for me to enjoy a game.

It only affects whether I'll admit to playing it, not whether I play it in the first place.

I'd like to say no, if a game is fun I'll play it, but honestly, that's a lie. There's more to games than gameplay these days.

A game has to have a theme that interests me otherwise it wont even come onto my radar. If the theme is fantasy, sci-fi, western, shooting real guns, zombies, trudging through a forest gunning down koreans, then it'll be on my radar. Hell, even if its simply a puzzle game I'll be interested, though I'm not overly keen on puzzle games other than on my phone, so it has to be a pretty damned good puzzle game before I look at it.

If the theme is bloody pokemon, even if the game got a 9/10 on all review sites, I'm not even gonna look twice at it. It has nothing to do with me be worried about what people think of me... I simply have no interest in pokemon so why would I play a game about it? If a game had me going to gay bars and the objective of the game was to have sex with as many guys as possible, it could be the most awesome gameplay in history I'm not going to play it because I have no interest in the subject matter :p

Absolutely, games like Viva Pinata, Kinectimals, and such don't have gameplay, art direction, plot, etc. that was designed to appeal to me. I like games with violence, problem solving, moral issues, and adult oriented issues.

I'd play, in secret.

Seriously though this kind of depends. I mean if it is a setting and content aimed at kids, then I wouldn't, but that is more really due to the fact that the content and game would not interest me.

If you are just referring in terms of visually that the game isn't all gray and "gritty," that would actually be a plus to me, since the market is saturated with gray gritty photorealistic games. For example something like TF2 or Borderlands.

So "kiddy" in what sense?

Perks of a stay at home dad.No different then watching a new series on tv or reading a new book from a new author or going to the bar

Well considering that I consider "kiddy" to be another elitist bullshit term used by insecure people, no it doesn't stop me from playing games.

Kinda of boring same routine pretty much everyday except i finished my b.s now short break then start my masters. My son is 16 months cant wait for him to get older so we can do sports and camping and stuff.

No, it doesn't affect me. There's a distinction to be made between artistic direction and actual content. Very few games I've played are actually aimed for kids, but a large portion of them have had some kind of light-hearted artistic design. In fact, I actually tend to steer away from games that try too hard to impress with realism since the game world and lore will almost never match the atmosphere.

Depends on what you mean by "kiddie" - Some games just have cartoonish graphics, but aren't "kiddie" games.

Though I haven't played any of the games mentioned in the op, the game I've been playing the last few days might qualify as "kiddy" (Recettear). The Japanese voices annoy the hell outta my wife.

I try not to let it affect and do enjoy a few games from my childhood butttt kiddy games just don't hold my interest for long. A lot of the games available for Wii fall under this category. They tend to be fun for a few then my interest rapidly peters off.

I didn't download the free Little Big Planet from Sony because it looked just too kiddy for me to get into. I downloaded the Zombie game and Wipeout HD and don't think much of those either but at least they don't look like games for a 4 year old.

No, I don't give a crap how playing a game makes me look. I (almost) never judge a game without actually tying it out first.

As long as it is fun or interesting enough to keep my attention, I'll continue playing it. Examples include Pokemon, the Harvest Moon games, those cartoonish Zelda games and Reccetear.

The only exception to this is Facebook games. I only gave it a go if a friend is already playing it. I tried some a while back and the only games that stuck are poker, chess, and words with friends.

Yes, it affects my decision to play it. Even when I was a child I had no time for "kiddy" games, with the Sonic games being the only exclusion.

Haha what? Tell me please then which word secure, confident and down to earth people use to describe a game that seems targeted at children?
