I just won a Galaxy 465 on eBay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...K:MEWAX:IT in which the seller modded the fan and shroud with a bigger fan and showed afterburner temps on full load at 58c with a 754 core, 1508 shader, and memory 1660
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814162052

and bought this card on OCN Sapphire 5770 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102858

http://www.overclock.net/video/10367...d-5770-ek.html which has a waterblock on it. I am not sure what to expect for temps considering my wcing rad and pump is from pentium 4 era. Not sure what to expect for temps there. http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy216/ranilo007/laptop/042511124733.jpg

If you check my sig rig "Moxie" temps are somewhat of an issue but not really considering as I am only currently running an 8600gts. So the temps are something I must consider.

Not sure what to expect for performance either. I know it is definitely a huge upgrade. Hopefully will be able to test each one out. I have atitool with the fuzzy square that can tell me fps. My 8600gts gets 400 avg. I also have farcry 2 benchmark. Any other programs to test these cards out when they come in.

I also have a new/used oczmodstream 500w psu coming. Yay! I am a bit too excited about this.
I have a guess that the 465 is gonna perform better but I am wondering about temps too.

Get Asus Unlocker and try to enable 448 shaders. Those things have a pretty good chance to unlock shaders even if you don't have the 1280MB of memory on the PCB. I read about it on this Google translated Polish article. If it works, Memory will become the biggest limitation, to the point where I'd say put TIM on the chips instead of thermal tape so that they run ice cold and OC the memory to 2200MHz+.

You can really do it however you wish, but grats, hope you like it.

Haha it turns out I misunderstood this one for a while :/, not all 465s are unlockable, only the ones with 10 memory chips. The ones with 8 can't be unlocked at all. Sorry about the misinformation, and hope you like the cards. :D

I can only afford to keep one or the other cooling is important and noise and performance bot cost the about the same though

I think overclocking the RAM will give you the biggest gains, since the 465 only has around 105 GB of bandwidth, compared to 115 GB for the GTX 460 1GB stock. So basically overclocking it will bring you to ~ a GTX 470 methinks.

Plus, your card seems to have a great cooler, better than my GB 460's at least. Will keep an eye out to hear more about this.

what is with all the gpu threads where the OP says nothing about the current pc and nobody asks?

OP, could you list the rest of your specs in detail including res you play at.

my monitor can only do 1280x1024

I'd sell the 465 and keep the 5770 or sell the 5770 and keep the 465, depending on how much performance you need. I think the 5770 will be enough performance, you'd be better off selling the 465.

yeah at that horrible res, I would juts keep the 5770. OP, I think its about time you get a modern widescreen monitor as that old 5:4 is only letting you see about 2/3 of a game since games are designed for widescreen.

I would sell one of them(which ever I can get the most $) and put it towards a new monitor that can run 1680x1050 like a 20-22" like this,

Acer P215HBbd Black 21.5" 5ms Full HD WideScreen LCD $119.99 + fs
thats a 1920x1080 monitor. really coming from 1280x1024 likely at 17 inches, he will want a 24 inch as the dot pitch and physical size of a 21.5 1920x1080 monitor is so small. if he is coming from a 19inch 1280x1024 then it would actually take a 27 inch to match the same physical screen height.

he can run it at 1680x1050 though. What are you talking about the physical screen height for?

why would someone buy a 1920x1080 16:9 monitor and run games at 1680x1050 which is 16:10? heck why would they run a lower res at all? it would make more sense to reduce some settings at native res then to run higher settings on lower not native res. if someone has a gpu that cant run games smoothly at all at their native res then they need a new gpu.

and I was giving him an idea of what size 16:9 monitor it would take to match the same physical screen height as his 5:4 monitor. some people have no idea how the different sizes translate for different aspect ratios.

yeah although the specs on this westinghouse blah monitor lol arent great at 10ms it is still fairly large looking. What if I kept the 465 and bought a matching monitor to make one screen kinda like eyefinity, would that work? I understand if I got a 19 in widescreen it would seem smaller. maybe I gotta buy a tv lol.

So if I kept the 5770 then bought a monitor with better resolution then I would have to sell the 5770 and buy something more like a 465 to max out the settings?lol?

Well I got the 5770 in today and come to find out I dont have the right fittings for my wcing gear so its up for sale now... and as for the 465 the post office says they dont know where it is... oh no...
