Bad Company 2

Always play non-HC servers for the reasons mentioned about.

Played my first game in 4 months last night on vanilla BC2 and it was great

I'm pretty sure it was Soldiers of Chaos. clan tag was [=SOC=],. After doing a quick google search, the server's name is "=SoC= Chaos Central"

I was pretty angry. I've never had a problem on the server before, and I've played there quite a few times, even had them favorited.

But, one bad apple spoils the bunch, as they say.

I was pretty pissed off about it last night, not as much today. It is, afterall, just a game.

quickedit: If I did get the clan wrong, I apologize profusely and will edit my post.

DOUBLE EDIT: FUCK. Yeah it must have been survivors of Chaos. I'm sorry for disparaging the Soldiers of Chaos' good name. I ahd a very bad mod experience on the SURVIVORS of Chaos server, not SOLDIERS of chaos. I'm sorry again.

MisterClean and all who read this thread,

I represent =SOC= Survivors of Chaos. I am one of the executives and one of the co-founders of our gaming community. Our website is www.socgamers.com. Currently we have three servers out there:

=SOC= 24/7 Oasis
=SOC= Mixed Rush/CQ Fast VSR
=SOC= Mixed Mode Vietnam

Apparently, MisterClean had a bad experience on a server that does not belong to our clan. Excitable Boy belongs to a clan name "Soldiers of Chaos" and their clan tags is almost exactly like ours but with a lower case "o" (i.e. =SoC=). Here is a screenshot I took from pbbans.com to prove it: http://www.filedropper.com/excitableboy. Here is their website: http://www.socbase.com/forum/bb3portal.php

To summarize this:
=SOC= Survivors of Chaos = our clan.
Excitable Boy is from =SoC= Soldiers of Chaos = not our clan!

In case if anyone here is not familiar with us, our servers are unique in this way:

Anything goes (i.e. no rules), except no hacking, obviously. This means that we allow baserape, spawnrape, and tanks or choppers, etc. are allowed at any time of the game. We only kick or ban for serious disrespect and of course, if other clans recruit on our servers.

All of our members (except recruits), have admin rights on our servers and if they abuse them, than that privilege is taken away.

I hope this can be put to rest now, and I hope you will come and visit one of our servers. Again, check us out at http://socgamers.com.

Respectfully,

BULLET007

I've found that I still prefer HC over vanilla, which is odd considering I'm extremely anti-sniper.

I definitely prefer the clean and clear HUD in HC mode. No icons all over the screen, no ammo counter, no mini-map. You can still pull up the map in HC, so motion mines and spotting still serve their purpose and medics can still find downed teammates if they aren't retarded.

I like vanilla as well, but I don't like how spotting was implemented. I find that in vanilla people just mash Q while shooting so everyone else can spray at the triangles. It makes it very difficult to play stealthily and flank when the entire opposing force knows where you are if someone spots you for a second, even if you eliminate them. I enjoy getting behind enemy lines and ruining the other team while they try to figure out where I am.

I also think the damage balance is off in vanilla, but I do wish HC mode still required more than one shot from sniper rifles if not to the head.

On a completely separate note, I used the 40mm shotgun for the first time ever yesterday out of boredom. It is an absolute beast (on hardcore). I always loved shotguns in general, slugs or not, but had never used the 40mm version. Probably not always better to take over grenades or smoke, but still fun to try out.

To anyone running servers: you auto-balance me I leave. Balance the teams in between rounds if you want to switch things up, but if I'm already playing, just leave me alone.

If they autobalance you it's performance based. Take it in stride and make your friends die.

Don't cry about it, that helps no one.

ah, the old "the [mode i prefer] is the best because it requires more skill than the [mode I dislike]."

There are skills involved in both hardcore and normal. To claim that the "true skill" is in one is nonsense.

I play mostly rush. I prefer to play hardcore because I like the "sneaky" aspect of it in hardcore. Hide behind someone's base, sneak in the objective, etc. that in normal is impossible if someone just happens to press Q while aiming in your general vicinity. Of course, normal also has it's required skills, but those are more about aim and reflexes. As a matter of preference, hardcore is more my style, but I am not going to claim that that is where the "true" skill is. I also think both modes have specific problems. In normal guns are horribly unbalanced, while in hardcore some maps are.

When servers autobalance you while you're alive and just kill you off that is annoying. It is also annoying when they do it without announcing it to you, so suddenly you are wondering why your team is doing so well/badly.

An end of the round mix is the best approach as the guy said.

Nobody's claimed that there's more skill in either, I don't think. We were discussing the degree to which the teamplay elements are neutered in hardcore.

I keep it at default so I can tell if an enemy is near me or not.

And after a while, you get to understand what they're saying.
Every time I see my Russian classmate I have an urge to yell out "GRANADA!!!" :p

Is it still impossible to get the all bronze badge? I finally got the 40mm shotgun and AT mines bronzed and still don't have it. I even got the garand up to silver just in case that was still bugged. I'm pretty much at a loss unless I need to get 25 shock paddle and drill kills.

I also still haven't bronzed the humvee/quad category. I'll need to spend a day parking them and getting on the MG I guess...

I typically play HC but I've always thought it was a bit too much, and normal is too far the other way. Normal mode with hp in between current normal and HC, with spots only showing up on the minimap would be my ideal.

N/m on my previous question. I joined a 24/7 Oasis fast vehicle respawn map and just whored the Humvee mg until I bronzed it. Got my vehicle bronze and all bronze at once :D

I always play Hardcore. I like it a lot more. People cant shoot me from across the map when they are doing random spotting. And then everyone knows where I am. Fuck that.

Basically this. HC is, to me, the better of the available choices, but sometimes it can be ridiculous.

What's with these servers with uptight admins who kick you for bad language? THERE'S CUSSING IN THE GAME. Wtf is wrong with these people?

because most of them are stupid.. but racial crap should always be an auto kick/temp ban.

The language filter is superlame. A few times I'll ask in the chatbox "did any of my shots hit you?" after a hit-detection fail, and the game censors half of it because it thinks I'm trying to type "shit" ("shots hit").

yup and you can blame the people that don't set it up correctly. the filter works if its setup right. you can configure how many characters you allow between letters. its mostly there to keep people from typing sssshit or something along those lines.

I've had some very frustrating moments where I've been trying to type to a friend something as simple as a request for them to get on Mumble or something and I can't because it keeps filtering out words a tiny minority of the world (Americans) use like "spic" halfway through a word or something.

But they allowed server admins to disable that stuff now, so it's not so much a poor reflection on DICE/EA any more as it is the idiots that haven't disabled it

1. Find a Heavy Metal server.
2. Assert dominance by taking and holding the middle point.
3. Make sure someone mans the AA gun there (key to victory).
4. Relax for the rest of the match by driving around in a FAV and roadkilling all the snipers/stragglers in the open.

It spells great success! Also, be creative about the routes you take, never drive head-on into a group because that will only end in tears. Try making your way behind enemy lines then working back towards your team...no one suspects a face full of bumper from behind and you'll be amazed at how oblivious people can be.

best way for road kills is to wait for a dumb squad to hide up on the mountain behind the AA gun and just go barrelling through the tree's and road kill them all.. same with the trees by A. most of them are all snipers there and to dumb to actually check around them every once in a while.

I have a problem with language filters or any form of censorship. If I want to call someone out and call them a ++++ then it should be part of the game.

Edit - I didn't realise there was a filter on here too, heh! What's with those pluses?! How [Hard]

In the US the c-word is considered the swear to rule all swears, so even on here where most goes that seems to be censored

++++
edit: ah ok now I know what is the c word

Yeah and there sure are some ++++s playing BC2! I don't know what's the matter with some people.

Still enjoying this game although not a frequently as I once did, the UMP 45 - MAG ammo - red dot is pure class.

I expect I'll be playing this up until BF3 comes out, although in Vietnam I'm finding it really hard to find the maps I like to play on here in Europe. So I've gone back to vanilla

I think I may have overdone the PPSh anyway with my 'nam soldiers. No idea why I have four and so many platinums!!

red dot sight is for noobs, learn how to use iron sights.. hell i can out snipe anyone with any weapon with iron sights vs red dot or ACOG.

PKM+spec 1 extra ammo + mag ammo = good luck because you are dead if i can see you.

but honestly BFBC2 has gone into the shitter ever since the 7 dollar sale steam had.. god damn COD kiddies need to go back to their bullcrap COD rebadged game because they don't belong on BFBC2 or any BF game to be honest. so sick of people not knowing how to spot, not knowing how to use vehicles, not knowing how to snipe, not knowing how to actually capture a flag.. i mean seriously this is just common sense stuff.

They'll get their asses kicked and get flushed out eventually. Don't give up! :)

oh i enjoy raping them. i just hate when they are ON MY FRIGGIN TEAM!!!!!! i play to win, screw playing just for stats. if they aren't there to win the game, then what the hell are they there for? go to a noob server were they don't care about winning and only care about their stats if thats how they want to play..

The scrubs are always on my team. I'm a scrub magnet.

There are still a lot of noobs from the Steam sale but the difference with them is they try so hard to get better, ask questions and actually take on board suggestions made in the chatbox by other players. They are great :).

I would even be ok with 3d spotting if it required you to have the person specifically in your sights. As it is now, you just mash Q and half the team is spotted.

I find some people un-spot-able here recently. I'll be firing at an enemy running across an empty field and I continually mash q over and over and it doesn't spot them.

really where are these people at? because i never get them on my team.. i mean hell i spend more time telling them how to play then i actually play. then i get told to shut up, so i just sit in the uncap and watch as my team gets raped in the face :p.. though i play on the same server with the same people on mumble so i tend to be a dick and give my teams positions away.. they gotta learn the hard way to pay attention to who they are telling to shut up, because telling the guy that has almost 700 hours on that server to shut up isn't the brightest idea, lol.

i've noticed that too.. sometimes zooming in and out and back in makes it work. or switching weapons back and forth works. typically i use my AT-4 to spot everyone then switch to what ever smg i'm using to kill them since i use iron sight's the AT-4 sight makes it easier to see people long distance.

Same.

Also, as a new player to the game myself, I have a message to all you level 50's that play on noob max level 20-30 servers: Go eat a fucking dick. I joined a noob server so I could learn the game mechanics / maps with other new players, not get hunted down as a level 4 by some asshat level 50 sniper that's camping somewhere.

i agree, hate seeing people doing that shit, but thats usually when its time to find a new server since it obviously doesn't have active admins. noob servers are notorious for getting hit by cheaters as well.

The Q button has a universal cooldown. You can spot one enemy[group] every two seconds; after every successful spot (which can light up like 3 players) you have to wait 2 seconds to spot again. If you spam Q too many times by trying to spot everyone you see, you will encounter a 5-second cooldown. Every time you hit Q whilst in the cooldown period you extend it to 5 seconds again, I think. It's a balancing mechanic. Try counting to five/six before hitting spot again and it should work.

Maybe you should play Aussie servers? One guy asked in the server if there was a way to stay scoped after you fire the bolt-action sniper rifles to see where the round lands...I told him and got a "thank you" from him and about half a dozen other players in the lobby who also didn't know. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside :). I don't think there were many players above the rank of 5...maybe three or four of us.

I never knew this. I'm usually pretty good about being a spotter but I didn't know there was this kind of timing to it. Thanks! :)
