British MI6 Sweetly Hacks Al Qaeda Website

Instead of pulling off raids or blowing up compounds, the British MI6, an elite counterterror group, switched tactics in what is basically a nose tweak to the terrorist online magazine. The group replaced bomb making instructions for directions to make some delicious cupcakes. No word yet on how the cupcakes turned out :D
While the terrorist group managed to republish the 67-page magazine with the correct computer code, it took them almost two weeks to undo the sweet edits.

Now if only the rest of the hackers in the world would focus their efforts on a good cause.

Although I see your point, I don't really see what the fuss is about. It's not like his comment was inflammatory or misleading in a harmful way.

The front page of an American hardware review page has a headline commending the British MI6 for awsome tactics against terrorists and you get your pantys in a bunch. Grow up.

What exactly compelled you to focus on the fact that the review site is "American"? I don't see the relevance in your oddly indignant post, nor the point of the post itself. Do you support the posting of misinformation, regardless of how severe it is?
 
I like how the news coincided with Bin Ladens suspected replacement, being vaporised by a hellfire rocket...cupcakes for everyone!

If MI6 wanted to make itself useful how come it didn't plant disinformation that might be useful. For a bomb making manual, change some of the text to guarantee the terrorist blows himself up which is very easy to do when making a bomb.

It would also take al-qaeda to notice the switch...

Try to think ahead a few steps. Teenagers would find this information and then try to follow it, blowing themselves up in the process. Is that what you want? Kids wouldn't have any malicious intent, they would just try to have some fun, but the end result wouldn't be so fun for them.

1. How many Teenagers you know access a real life al-Qaeda website? Most cannot read arabic.
2. How many western teenagers build bombs for kicks? How many innocents you think would really be harmed by this? More innocent teens are killed in car crashes.
3. Is that what I want? Honestly I can live with it. Better a dead teenager then a bunch of dead innocents.

I'd hardly consider anyone building a BOMB off of a TERRORIST website to be innocent. Don't think its his part time hobby to build bombs then dismantle them...

Hmmm how to answer to this... lets say I had an extensive knowledge of physics and chemistry as a teenager... so I really wouldn't have needed the website

No humans or animals were hurt during my teenage exploits, of course that was not my intention. Of course nowadays the kind of stuff I used to do would likely get you thrown in prison for being a terrorist. :eek:

Yea, teenagers would never do anything dumb and/or out of curiosity! Especially in places where bombs go off every day and horrible death surrounds them.
