Hi,

I'm looking to get a WP7 phone (has to be ATT). It'll either be near future or August; is anything expected to come out over the summer that'll make waiting worthwhile? What's good of the current offerings? (Including Dell's handset).

Thanks

I just switched to the HTC Surround wp7. I was a blackberry user for 6 years.

With that being said, i miss my keyboard, still cant get used to the touchscreen. But other than that I enjoy the phone. It lacks app selection compared to iOS and android. But its nice having xbox live, netflix, office programs, and the live tiles. The phone runs so smooth. Nothing crashes. Switching between screens and programs runs so quick. Currently there is no 3rd party multi tasking. For example. If you are listening to the Slacker Radio app, and you get a text, your music will pause, you exit the app, respond to the text, and then you can resume the app. With the Mango update, it will allow 3rd party multitasking. The mango update is supposed to come out within the next 3-4 months. Hopefully.

No flash player. Facebook synching is awesome.

Web browser is awesome. Even if it is Internet Explorer. Web pages load super quick.

No custom ringtones. But that will change with the Mango update.

Not much customization you can do to the phone right now. Just changing the colors of the tiles.

I am switching to the HTC HD7S when it comes out, because I want the 4.3" screen.

I'd definitely recommend the phone. Its a nice change from Blackberry. Its nice to have a different op sys all together.

I just went through the same dilemma and for 1, the lack of apps (specifically the lack of the apps I need to work with) for the Windows phone is what made my Android (Atrix) decision easier.

I figured there might be more apps by the time it's time for me to renew again.

2 is the lack or limited multi-tasking was a big issue for me, though I'll assume it'll get implemented sooner than later. And also dual-core CPU's to go with that.

I used a Windows phone for a little while to test and it seemed nice & smooth though, no complaints there.

In any case both those phones make the old blackberry look like an antique... surprising.

I have seen things like this said often but have always been curious what apps was WP7 missing?

Proper GPS software, not having any quality navigation like navigon or TomTom is a big drawback... also not enough good games and such

With Microsofts recent buddy buddy relationship with Nokia and the announcement of the Mango update with Bing navigation. I am sure a great app for navigation is just around the corner.

Never even thought about it since i get telenav for free with sprint.

The games are fine. Whats there is pretty damn good just needs more.

+1 for the HTC HD7s. Should go on sale June 5th.

As for the future, I believe AT&T said this will be the last Windows Phone before the big Mango update sometime this fall/winter. I'm guessing another round of devices with update hardware to go along with Mango will be released around then.

I use autocad mobile when I need to verify something quick, VERY large pdf files... amongst others. Cpu speed & Apps are important for me, as well as lots of ram. Those 2 apps work very well on android. Google navigate is also sweet.

It seems like WP7 is still in "early adopter territory" - smaller app selection, next update will bring significant features (and probably the one after that will have to as well), and so forth. That doesn't really bother me.

Does the HD7S offer features above and beyond the Focus/Quantum besides a marginally bigger screen?

I got the 32GB Dell Venue Pro with AT&T recently started selling. The 4.1 inch AMOLED, physical keyboard, gorilla glass, and 32GB of storage should put this into consideration. I love it so far with a few exceptions.

I would definitely buy it again. It has been a pleasure to use so far.

Annoyances with the phone and OS:
- No indicator light(s). You have to turn on the screen to see if there are any missed calls, etc.
- No way to set separate volume for system volume and ringer. You can however leave the system volume on while the phone is set to vibrate.
- Zune software does not support WMA lossless files. Oddly, they are supported on Zune HD.
- Can't connect to wifi networks with hidden SSID.
- No option for the phone to announce incoming calls. On Windows Mobile 6, the phone had an option to say "Incoming call from Jane Smith" when a call would come in. This was extremely useful when driving with a headset to know who was calling.
- Push notifications for email (or other apps such as GoVoice) get hung up when switching from WiFi to 3g. If the phone goes to sleep, wifi gets disabled and the notifications get lost. The alternative is to either keep it plugged in when on wifi and not using it or to disable wifi when not using it.
