I want this phone bad, but don't know if I can justify that I'll have to more than double my monthly phone bill to get this phone. I don't even have 4g in my area, but my TP2 seems slow. I played with an Evo 4g at Radio Shack and fell in love with it. I'm fine with the cheapest plan possible because I only use about 20-30 minutes a month talking. Mainly I just need it for text and internet usage.

anyone here get rid of Sero to get it? If so, do you regret it? Was it worth it? How much are you paying now for it?

Awhile ago I dropped the SERO for the first iPhone. Sure at that time the iPhone was game changing in wireless browsing.

Never regretted that.

After facing the reality that the phone I want isn't on a network that has 3G here, I've sat down and thought about this. I don't really need a data phone for work. I could live without data on a phone (or at least without 3G, for sure).

So IMO stick to SERO. The problem is, of course, Sprint won't activate newer phones on it. So you'll eventually have to give it up anyway.

SERO will eventually be killed off completely. Plans are in the works to make it 99.9999% impossible to keep the plan.

Edit: Except for the former employees the plan was originally intended for.

True. No more existing contracts, no more obligation for Sprint to honor rates... They could drop everyone tomorrow if they wanted to.

^^Can you clarify? I have an existing SERO contract which is the main reason I'm staying with Sprint.

What do you mean?

You sign a 2 year deal with a carrier, that guarantees their rates to you. That also guarantees you pay them, of course.

When 2 year deal is no more (I don't think there's any SERO plans under contract anymore???)... Sprint has no obligation to keep those rates as-is. They can jack the rates higher if they want to.

Why they haven't done that? Who knows. I think rather than pissing people off and driving them to ATT/Verizon/Tmobile, they're trying to entice people to get away from it with great phones like the Evo... Make you voluntarily give it up.

Yea i droped sero for the 4G and i don't regret. Obviously your paying more than double but you also get alot more for your money so its worth it. I love the phone its awesome. I don't use many minutes maybe 100 or 200 but i used over 3.4gb of data this month so far
so the plan pays for itself. If i was on ATT and verizon i would be paying out the ass.
Anyways its a solid device that will only get better with froyo 2.2.

I want a newer phone but I don't really want to pay $70+ for my phone service.
Right now I have a Blackberry and have unlimited everything with Sero (they gave me Pick 3 for free, Google Voice is one of the 3 numbers I use) and only pay $32/month, taxes fees included.

If I get another Blackberry next month if I upgrade, then they'll add the $9.99 for BIS that I am currently getting for free. I am not sure what smart phones can be activated on SERO at the moment, but I believe the choices are pretty slim right now.

I'm on the SERO $30 and just have a normal flip phone. It's damaged and Sprint wants me to upgrade to a $50 SERO plan. They said they cannot attach a smart phone to the SERO plan, even though it says I have unlimited data. From what I understand, the SERO unlimited data is for some older Blackberries, correct?

I think I'm going to stick with SERO and buy a fix kit for my flip phone's inverted screen.

You can purchase and use any smartphone with SERO, but there are charges you have to pay.
Any current non-4G Smartphone requires a $10 increase to SERO Premium, which gives you AnyMobile and free Navigation. Getting a 4G Smartphone requires an additional $10 charge.
So $40 for any smartphone and $50 for a 4G Device (this is if you are on the $30 SERO Plan).
I have SERO $30 and an HTC Touch Pro 2, and am considering going with the HTC Arrive.

I have a Sanyo Katana DLX that I am not using that I'll sell cheap + Shipping. Near mint condition with a slight scuff on one corner.

Basically you can't activate *any* new phone on your $30 plan. To activate another phone, you need to bump it up for Sero Premium ($40/month) and then pay the smartphone tax if you want a smartphone (extra $10/month).

Another reason why Sprint is so WIN.

I get to wake up in the morning knowing I support companies that hates on net-neutrality less... unfortunately, I can't go without comcast.

The $10 on top of SERO Premium is only for 4G phone, it's the Premium DATA charge.
All non 4G phones require you to upgrade to SERO Premium.

So basically...

1) SERO Premium plan customers - $40 per month
NOTHING CHANGES. Still $40 per month. Any non-4G phone can be activated.

2) SERO Premium Plan customers with 4G access: (Evo, Epic, Shift, Nexus 4G): $50 per month
NOTHING CHANGES. Still $50 per month. Any phone can be activated. If you activate a non-4G phone, then the extra $10 monthly charge drops off your bill.

3) SERO plan customers on the $30 per month plan:
NOTHING CHANGES. Still $30 per month. Still can't activate Android/Palm/WM7 phones. You should still be able to activate feature phones and most likely old WM6 phones.

How did you contact Sprint? If you contacted them via *2, then they probably ended up giving you the wrong information. Try emailing [email protected]. There is a # for SERO/EPRP that I can dig up if you prefer to call.

All smartphone require the extra $10/month service plan now. This is no longer specific to 4G phones. Things change as time goes by.

Not for SERO Customers. All we pay is the $10 to bump up to SERO Premium and that is it.

The $10 Smartphone charge is for all regular customers.
