Kid Arrested For Facebook List that Ranks Girls

Getting off topic people.

The real issue here is that someone was arrested for voicing an opinion about others. So unless the accused was advocating harm to those girls less attractive, there is a flagrant 1st Amendment violation here.

I hope the family of the boy and the ACLU takes this town/city to the cleaners.

Nope

A few examples of illegal sexual harassment (I just grabbed from a webpage)
  • Direct or indirect threats or bribes for unwanted sexual activity
  • Sexual innuendos and comments "look at th legs on that one"
  • Intrusive sexually explicit questions
  • Sexually suggestive sounds or gestures such as sucking noises, winks, or pelvic thrusts
  • Repeatedly asking a person out for dates, or to have sex
  • Touching, patting, punching, stroking, squeezing, tickling, or brushing against a person
  • A neck/shoulder massage
  • Rating a person's sexuality
  • Ogling or leering, staring at a woman's breast or a man's derriere
  • Spreading rumors about a person's sexuality
  • Name-calling, such as bitch, whore, or slut
  • Sexual Ridicule
  • Jokes about sex or males/females
  • Letters, notes, telephone calls, or material of a sexual nature
  • Pervasive displays of pictures, calendars, cartoons, or other materials with sexually explicit or graphic content or otherwise offensive content, including clothed "babe" pictures for "appreciating the human form"
  • Stalking a person
  • Attempted or actual sexual assault

While the above are illegal in the workplace (and yes, schools are a workplace) I don't have particularly high regards for people who violate these concepts on their own time either.

Quite frankly, if you have "babe wallpaper" on your computer or your phone, or you talk to friends about "hot girls" you are really nothing but a disgusting low-brow male pig, and people like that should be chastised as hard as possibly allowed.

If you are slimy enough to have thoughts about sex/sexuality/women as you go about your day, you should really just keep them to yourself.

^see that? that's what me bashing my head against my keyboard looks like after reading your post.

"Dale Jones, father of one of the girls, said while he welcomed the arrest, he was concerned that a disorderly conduct charge was not serious enough of a response for a “very serious offense that affected many people.”"

Really, Dale? The kid made a list. I fail to see how that could possibly be grounds for an arrest. School suspension or other punishment, sure, but I really don't see how it should land the kid in jail.
This is because, it's easier to blame someone else, than to admit your child is out there acting in a way that you don't approve of.

Men should be chastised for being men? What has this country come to?

note: It was posted on Facebook and hundreds of copies were printed and distributed at the school during lunch period, before the administration intervened.

if anything the kid should've been arrested for wasting paper on high school drama. :p

How often do you read about mass stabbings by a crazy individual? Or better yet, mass beatings by a lone batsman? :p

:D

Fail on so many levels I am not even sure where to start. But we'll start with the easiest one I guess.

Sex on the Brain
The idea that men think about sex every seven seconds, like the claim that we only use 10 percent of our brains, is often repeated but rarely sourced. The number doesn't bear up against scrutiny. According to the Kinsey Report (Sexual Behavior in the Human Male), 54 percent of men think about sex every day or several times a day, 43 percent a few times a week or a few times a month, and 4 percent less than once a month. Even though the Kinsey Report relies on men to self-report on how often they think about sex, it's still eye opening to find that just under half of men aren't even thinking about sex once a day. Clearly, the seven-second rule may be a tad hyperbolic.

So in your opinion every male is slimy, for having these biological thoughts. I wonder if you would find it fair to characterize women in similarly negative way...Perhaps we should call all women who think about having babies sluts or whores?

I myself have a NY skyline wallpaper but to be a judgmental prick about what people like to look at? Seriously?

Now to the fun part of your posting. Perhaps we should outlaw cars as the amount of deaths attributable to vehicular deaths is 3 to 4 times the amount of deaths caused by gun violence on a yearly basis. (Interestingly Darwin is at work here as approx 50% of deaths attributable to guns is due to suicide...)...Hmmm perhaps we should ban Aspirin as it causes approximately the same amount of deaths per year as "gun violence." How about alcohol? Let's ban alcohol, it causes numerous deaths through drunk driving,is bad for ....wait we tried that already and saw that the it doesn't work to try and force morality of a subset of people on the whole.

Keep your asinine opinions to yourself....WAIT...no spout your crazy because in this free country that I live in, YOU still have that right no matter how asinine your opinion might be to me.

sounds like the parents of the victims have a pretty good libel suit brewing, and i'm sure the school was justified in their actions, but I just can't see how this was a criminal case.

Indeed. sir.

On another note some people are missing the point here I think. What he did may be "considered" sexual harrassment which is not a freedom, BUT he is not being charged with that so it is kinda impeaching his freedom to express himself.

-1 internets to Zarathustra for the epic troll post btw

Back to the topic at hand, I think this is definitely a free speech issue, in fact I think we should all make lists and put it on Facebook just to see what would happen.

QFT, and it's only slander or libel if it's not true, sexual harassment is only illegal in some cases regarding sexual abuse and/or sexual assault.

Hey, those bikini models on my desktop and phone brighten my day. They worked HARD on those delicious bodies and deserve to be shown to the world (minus the GF). I'm not trying to sexually harrass them, they are out of my league and probably make more money than me ;)

For some reason I always assumed that those thoughts were normal in every way. Oh well, plan B, time to get the goods surgically removed.

You don't have to do that, just leave them in your wife/significant other's purse, they will end up there sooner or later :D

If the genders were reversed, this would be viewed much differently. Double standard ftw.

We used to do that years ago! The difference was that we didn't distribute it via chatrooms on AOL - we kept it on the sneakernet.

Troll post by posting up general workplace definitions of sexual harrassment? Which would be appropriate for the SCHOOL to punish this kid for by suspension or I guess expulsion if they're feeling sandy. But an arrest is far too excessive.

And clearly those disputing that guns are no less deadly or better at killing people than knives and bats would feel comfortable arming our troops with nothing but knives and bats?

Unless it is categorized as sexual harassment...

I think some action is appropriate, the question is what?

I mean, if you can get fired for sexual harassment from a job for having a swimsuit calendar or babe desktop backgrounds even with clothed or non exposed women, then - even if you don't believe this is wrong (I believe it is wrong) - there is an argument for punitive measures to be taken just to prepare the kids for the workplace...

I think the topic of sexual harassment is often underplayed and under emphasized by men.

The short rule is is if it has anything to do with sex, sexuality, genders, etc. whether in spoken, written, joke, whatever form it has no place in the workplace, and by extension any school.

A few examples of illegal sexual harassment (I just grabbed from a webpage)
  • Direct or indirect threats or bribes for unwanted sexual activity

If you met a really hot girl this weekend. Don't talk about it. Never mention hotness/bodily features/ "what you'd like to do to her".

Essentially, in the workplace/school/most social engagements there is no place for sex or sexuality in any form. If the border does not come naturally to you It is simply best to yourself be, and treat everyone around you like non-gendered robots. That's not a pretty girl, it's a coworker or a fellow student.

While the above are illegal in the workplace (and yes, schools are a workplace) I don't have particularly high regards for people who violate these concepts on their own time either.

you must really hate all men. I have not known any man, except a couple >70 long married men, to not do this very behavior. Granted, most men don't put "babe" wallpaper on their computers, but talking about an attractive a certain woman is something done by every man I've known. It's not low brow. It's not "pig" behavior. It is complementing a woman on her looks, sure. It's built into us. All of us. (OK, gay men talk about other men, but that's basically the same thing.) If you think a man doesn't do it, think again. Perhaps your grandpa, who's had his prostate and testicles removed 20 years ago and has little testosterone left in his system, doesn't do it. It's part of nature. Nature gives us a sex drive so that we procreate. If it weren't for that, humanity would probably have died out by now.

You're basically calling all men lowbrow pigs just for being men. If you're female, you probably had a really bad experience, or got rejected a lot, or just never got those kind of complements aimed your way. That's not our fault. You haven't met all of us. So stop blaming all of us for your bad experience. Many women actually like that kind of attention. I'm betting this is the case. I've had three women push me out of a job just because I didn't return their attractions. I've never lashed out at a woman just because she didn't find me attractive. I've done my best to show that I don't hold anything against them for it.

If you're male, then you probably hate yourself just for being male. Do all us normal (or marginally normal in my case) men a favor and just go up into the mountains and live in isolation.

When I say such things about a woman, it's not meant as an insult or with evil, selfish intentions, as you insinuate. It's because she piques my interest. It's not much different a feeling than seeing a fully restored C3 Corvette or a new view of the Rocky Mountains that I haven't seen before. Appreciation for visual beauty. That's all. That doesn't mean we want to marry her.

(What piques my interest even more is a strong, intelligent woman showing both those talents, no matter how she looks. Such a woman might actually be able to stand 15 minutes in the same room as my mother without breaking down crying. I'd love to find and marry a woman like that, but I've only encountered a few that meet those qualities, and they were all either married or completely not interested in me. The only visual quality I can't get past is big. I just can't find an overweight woman, meaning >250lbs, attractive. Even though I haven't had a second date in over 17 years, and haven't even had so much as a kiss in that long, I can't bring myself to feel attracted to a big woman. If that makes me shallow, then so be it. Don't hate me for it, just find someone who likes it, and leave me out of it. Guys who find big women attractive are out there. I'm just not one of them.)

In short, the tone and insinuations of your post are extremely insulting to me. Don't blame me and hate me just for your own shortcomings.

It's only because of the advent of technology that it is more evident boys are hormone+ego powered from early ages. Perhaps the world governments should make mandates and laws where boys who are beginning to go through puberty are forced to live in female infested societies that are anti-men.

"Thoughtcrime", a glaring omission that eventually bites you back while you supported politicians who pressed for a government in which has jurisdiction over even the smallest social/economical aspects of every individuals life.

Suck it down, America, this is exactly the type of tyranny you deserve when you support such a government who ignores individual liberty.

All I have to say is WTF. Clearly once again authorities overstepping their bounds and enforcing a law that is subjective. Does anybody really want to have to pay for the public court costs for this "crime against humanity"? How about incarceration costs?

Amen brother. I have a GF as well and she is well aware I have lots of picture of other women saved on my computer, and you know what. She looks at them with me. ;)

Not sure if my sarcasm detector failed but that pretty much describes North America and Europe.

To stop douchebags like this, yes I do. Now what?

Clearly once again authorities overstepping their bounds and enforcing a law that is subjective.

That's because it is not "law" they are enacting. That's a contradiction. Law itself requires objective terms, anything labelled a law that is based on subjective terms is nothing but tyrannical forced values.

To stop douchebags like this, yes I do. Now what?

The government should then absolve itself of paying for all those costs and just send you, and only you a bill for the sum total of the costs.

Wonder if you'd still feel the same way.

Also to everyone saying its a list means its not freedom of speech, wouldnt it be like a news report?

I'll tell you, it's a good thing today's kids didn't grow up in the 70's like I did. Most of them would have had a melt-down being this sensitive.

It's not just this. I know this ain't cool. But damn.... we're seem to be raising a generation of pee-wee hermans it seems...

To stop douchebags like this, yes I do. Now what?

Except you would be forcing others to pay for it as well, forcing your own value system upon them (and destroying individual liberty).

Would you pull out the gun yourself to stop these douchebags, or do you just run to the government to do it for you since you don't have the balls. Most tyrants don't.

When I first saw "Zarathustra[H]" the first thing I thought of was "Kamasutra." Anyone else, I guess I'm just a low-brow male pig. Someone come and kill me.

Well, it's a good thing we have a representative democracy in place to sort out those sorts of value judgements, don't we?

You seem to have very contradictory thoughts. We should have due process of law, but at the same time we should also have vigilante justice (because only ball-less tyrants solve things legally)?

Yeah because one guy really knows 50 girls' sexual preferences.

People kiss and tell, but unless that guy's been actively asking people to tell him the juicy details, he couldn't possibly know.

Probably Facebook

Probably Facebook

I bet if we checked facebook.....we will probably see all those 50 girls raunchy sexual preferences and if they did Jared already
