Want to make a list of the sexual characteristics of girls at your school and post it on Facebook? If you live in Chicago you'd better be pack your jail clothes because it is apparently against the law there.

“The subject was found to be responsible for an offensive list" that was circulated at the school, Oak Park police Detective Cmdr. LaDon Reynolds said. “Based on the evidence, the juvenile offender was charged with disorderly conduct and referred to (juvenile) court.”

"Dale Jones, father of one of the girls, said while he welcomed the arrest, he was concerned that a disorderly conduct charge was not serious enough of a response for a “very serious offense that affected many people.”"

Really, Dale? The kid made a list. I fail to see how that could possibly be grounds for an arrest. School suspension or other punishment, sure, but I really don't see how it should land the kid in jail.

This will probably make it all the way to the supreme court on the basis of free speech.

He was ARRESTED for making a list? Really? Suspended? I am fine with that. But arrested?

Meanwhile, murders are doing dirt, rapists are violating women, thieves need 2-3 vans to carry off all they are making off with, and a whole neighborhood got their houses robbed, and there's bodies being found in vacants all over the city.

Disorderly Conduct is such a generally useful charge. Ain't it. Maybe they could have thrown in Defamation and other charges along with it?

If this kid was sent to another school. That could be seen as a favor to him. Imagine going to a school where most of the people think you're a major douche (the 50 girls, along with their boy and girl friends, and any person of even modest taste).

Sad to see facebook being regulated now. I'm now more than ready to see it die. It'd be hilarious if customs seized the domain and put up one of those stupid videos with a message like "we're taking this away because you people can't stop being dicks to each other."

Disorderly conduct is a very ambiguous charge.

Though if you read the article, the kid did post publicly about girls alleged sexual activities. That's a no-no.

Oak Park is not Chicago, legal codes, and most certainly the school system, is not the same. Just an FYI, I know its the closest recognizable city.

For those looking for a real world definition of the word IRONY, we now have one.

ONLY if he was making it up. If he is telling the TRUTH he is is protected by most legal precedents.

It's just show that WTF people are doing to cover problems, they open the pointless case about some douchebag and whoa, entire court gets to work, fail seriously. Instead of chasing real criminals they resolve this crap.

you learn the hard way. honestly my opinion on kids these days. if something gets you suspended from school, thats an ego boost on their part, lol, im not surprised if even when they get arrested they feel "cool" instead. want a punishment, give them 1 yr of charity work or anything involving them actually thinking and working :D

Kind of sad, I read an article a while back talking about how hard it is these days to get a job with blemishes on your record and the fact that a larger percentage of the nation now have blemishes due to police being arrest happy and attorneys wanting to prosecute anything that moves. Kids are stupid just like adults can be as well but screwing up a persons future before they have a chance is just messed up. It really is time for an over haul of our justice system...

Site is blocked at work but when I was in middle school I knew some girls that kept a ranked list of guys they liked. Sounds like the same thing. Can I sue them for a billion dollars?

I think you should be arrested for making such bad posts. See, I can say you arbitrarily just broke the law too. Disorderly conduct. Have fun.

Not that I agree that such a list should have been created, but arresting a kid for creating this list doesn't seem legal. Now, it does say that he described them by "explicit, derogatory nicknames" which may hold grounds for sexual harassment. Does that fall under "disorderly conduct"?

wow, if I found out some guy in my little girl's school made Facebook lists of her sexual activities and preferences be it true or not, he'll be wishing he was safe in jail.

Could you please explain to me the legality of listing specifically illicit information about a minor's sexual behavior? I would really like to see where it says it is legal to disseminate such informaiton. Even if it is true, he is can still be in violation of laws regarding the publication of information in regards to minors.

I think he got a slap on the wrist. Most likely they couldn't prove much else. I agree, in principle, with the father about the damage he caused, but do not necessarily agree that the kid's life should be ruined over this offense, especially if its his only offense. In the old days, this would have been fixed with a good ole fashioned beat down.

Funny thing how everyone wants to get mad at the kid for posting the list, when the real parenting fail is on the part of the girls on that list's parents if they really did half the shit he posted :p

That list is the public school equalivent of the Pentagon Papers.

yeah, that sounds like Chicago. As long as you grease the right palms, you can get away with anything. this poor kid probably just didn't have the money to get the prosecutors off his back. They're cheap, too. All it would take for something like this would be $50 or so and they'd drop it.

Yeah because one guy really knows 50 girls' sexual preferences.

People kiss and tell, but unless that guy's been actively asking people to tell him the juicy details, he couldn't possibly know.

Uh when I was in junior high, this exact same thing happened, but it was a list of guys. No one cared. It was before the days of Facebook though, so maybe that's the difference?

Who cares? Bottom line is a kid is going to jail over, basically, being a douchebag. Most of the people on these forums would be serving time if that's the precedent.

See, proof positive, take away responsibility of the girls in school to keep their legs closed and instead blame the poor lad for exposing their promiscious activities.

Parenting fail, imo.

Arrested for making a list? OH NO!, NOT A LIST!!!!

I can see the ACLU possibly getting involved in this one. Either way, this is completely ridiculous and doesn't qualify as disorderly conduct. He wasn't yelling it out loud at 2 AM while in the neighbors yard or something like that.

Just because you don't like something, or find it offensive does not make it disorderly. IE. you can walk around in a klan hood, protest soldiers funerals, etc. It's protected speech. If you don't like it, that's just too bad for you.
