Anyone have or know where to find the service manual for the Dell Studio 15?

The LCD broke and I need to replace it.

Any hints or pointing in the right direction will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

As there are several variations and models of the Studio 15, the best place is obviously Dell:

http://support.dell.com/support/index.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

Go to that page, click Drivers & Downloads, when the Identify screen comes up, click the "Choose by Service Tag" option, and then enter your Service Tag. It'll be on the bottom of the laptop, on a thin white sticker that looks like this:

serialdell.jpg

Enter the Service Tag and it'll pull up the exact info for that exact machine you have. On the left side of the page you'll see a lot of links but you want the one that says "Manuals" - click that. It'll lead you to the different manuals, and obviously you want the Service Manual for your specific machine, which will either be a single PDF file or it'll be a small Zip archive with the info in HTML format to read in your browser.

Hope this helps...

it's easy
this is for the I series machine, C2D machines should be similar (i used a studio 1558)

1. remove battery and external power
2. remove screws on each side of battery and one near COD sticket
3. flip machine over and gently pry up black plastic containing the speakers
4. Remove screws holding down black plastic aroundkeyboard.
5. gently pry up black plastic around keyboard
6. LCD cover has no screws so you have to use a plastic wedge tool to seperate it

From there you should be able to remove and replace lcd.

BE SURE that you order the right LCD le LED if it is a led backlight or CCFL if it is a cold cathold florescent backlight

Thanks, dude!!!

Yeah... put in my Service Tag and then clicked on MANUALS... the font is soooo tiny :p (or, at least that's the excuse I give myself since I couldn't find it... hehe)

Yeah, ordered the right LED display... pulled it from the original specs for the lappy.

Thanks, guys!!! It's a Dell Studio 15 1555 with 4GB RAM and still a decent machine (albeit, out of warranty... not that the warranty would've covered something like this, but still) and may be put to good use. Thanks, again!!

Yep, ordered the right thing... but, yeah... thanks for the heads up! I know there's definitely a big difference between the two...
