Ive got Prime95 right now, wondering what the best settings to use for that program are, or if there is a better program?

Just got my push-pull TRUE set up and thinking of overclocking my 2500K a bit.

Check out OCCT, LinX, Memtest86+, and IBT.

As far as being better, they all usually find something the other does not (not always the case but it does happen) if there are any instability issues. Kind of like anti-virus and anti-malware applications.

I usually use LinX, Prime95 and Memtest86+.

OCCT = LinX = IBT. They all are the exact same. Usually, you want to run LinX for at least 25 runs or 30 minutes at the highest possible memory usage.

Memtest86+ checks for RAM stability.

P95 is not necessary after you do LinX, but you can always use it for a long term stress test (5-6 hours or more, i.e. overnight). Do small FFTs for maybe an hour, then large FFTs for overnight purposes.

IBT or LinX for max temp testing and quick finding of errors.

Prime95 for long test (i use Blend test).

IBT or LinX for initial stress test. BFBC2 for true stability test.

When I OC I do the following.

- Change settings
- IBT 5 runs using max mem
- P95 small fft for 10 min

Rinse and repeat until I reach instability.

When I think I have my final OC I do 25 runs of IBT using max mem, then P95 overnight with blend, then a 24 hour session with small fft.

Afterwards, I play a little bit of all my games.

I usually get higher temperatures out of IBT then Prime95 which suggests it's better at loading, however I've heard the opposite from i7 owners so maybe it has something to do with the chip.

Well, but on default setting then IBT and LinX still push harder than P95,don't they?

Not necessarily, Linpack isn't very stressful on the memory subsystem. I've also passed some 50 runs of IBT only to have smallfft show errors with my old wolfdale and maybe yorkfield (I'm not 100% sure on that one).

So, no Linpack is not the end all be all. It is a good test but not the only test that you should use to determine stability.

I can passes over 10 passes of IBT and fail Prime95 on my system in like 15 minutes, so it definitely does something different.
