The Big Debate: Verizon Upgrade Now or Later?

My debate:
Wait until September (Rumor) For iPhone 5 (Assuming it comes on Verizon just as quick as AT&T)
Wait for Samsung Droid Charge - Looks promising?
Wait for Galaxy S II - Looks even more promising?
Wait for HTC Incredible 2 - Looks nice - Not 4G Compatable though. Overall a very sleek phone though.
Confirmed by others - It's not what I want Thunderbolt now (Looks overpriced, bad battery life, likely not the choice)
Another phone now - Feel free toss in suggestions - I want top of the line, hence why I don't go with something like iPhone 4.

My basic requirements are decent app selection, large screen, slide out keyboard is a bonus but not anywhere near needed.

Other than fast internet, I see all the advantages of smart phones with apps. If all I wanted was simple internet I would use it at home or work.

The thing is, I hate my current phone SO much, and my contract has been up since March. I'm just running around in circles. Also, my girlfriend would shush about how much my phone sucks too =/

HTC Merge should be out soon if you want the keyboard bad enough. It's pretty much a G2 or Evo Shift (but I've read it has the best keyboard of the bunch).

I'm eligible for upgrade right now too, but I'm waiting for the Xperia Play :D. If that wasn't coming out, I would probably go with the Incredible 2. Battery life on the Inc 2 is supposed to be really good from the reviews I've see so far (Engadget said it should last 2 days with light usage and easily one with heavy usage).

It's not, but OP didn't list LTE as a requirement. I'm actually thinking about replacing my current Inc with the 2.

You'll have the phone for 2 years why get a phone that can not run on the future network?

Thunderbolt is not over priced it's only $129 now (was $189), the Charge is going to be more. It doesn't look like anything worth waiting for is coming out before summer (eg the bionic/targa).

at this point
i don't know if iphone 5 would be even out before end of year

I guarantee it will be. September is the rumored date right now. No way it would get extended another 4 months. Not if Apple wants to maintain its current market share. I could care less though.

Yeah I'm returning my Thunderbolt phone today and think I'll wait for the incredible 2. Just can't handle the battery life.

Not being 4G compatable is kinda killing it for me as the OP hurrr.... damn that looks SO nice though... but then again, I have heard how overrated 4G is. At the same time though, when you buy now, you want it to be at the top for as long as you can ride for that 2 year contract. ARRRGH! More input! It is all helping though :D

I opted for a Thunderbolt about a month ago. I was gonna wait for the new dual cores due out in the summer but I figured nothing will really be out there that can take advantage of them for a while. So since I've gotta live with this phone for 2 years I went with the most powerful at the time and think that in 20 months when my upgrade is due, there will be plenty out there that can actually use a dual core.

I find that I use my phone much more for text/e-mail and watching videos than web. On the occasions I need to use the web, 3G is more than fast enough for me. My only reservation about the Inc 2 is its processor. I really want to upgrade to a dual-core. Another phone, the HTC Sensation, has me intrigued, too. Sadly, it's T-Mobile. I like TM, but ain't happy about them being swallowed by AT&T.

HTC EVO 3D is an alternative. It's the Sensation with a 3-D screen and WiMax.

Back on topic: To the OP, if you hate your phone and need to move on then go for it sometime here this week. Inc2 and Droid Charge are scheduled for an April 28th launch. I'm sure battery life will suck on the Charge, but at least you have the wireless charge option.
Inc2 Battery life, it's anyone's guess really BUT if it's as good as the Incredible S reviews have been then it shouldn't be an issue. Dual-Core would be nice but we'll make it through another year before it'll be somewhat required. I got the TB and have been happy. After rooting it, slapping a custom ROM on it, and using Juice Defender my battery has been more than adequate. Not as good as the iPhone 4 on VZW but still gets me through the day.
FYI: I use LTE OnOff when I'm outside LTE coverage.

consider that the incredible 2 and thunderbolt are very similar phones, just that the tbolt has 4G. You won't be paying any extra for the 4G and if you don't feel like using it, there are plenty of software ways to disable it.

I was originally deciding between these two phones and my main criteria was size and cost. I was under the impression that the tbolt was a ton bigger, but when actually comparing them, they are very similar in size. So I'll be picking up my tbolt tomorrow

Granted 4g won't make a difference for text/email (something many disregard) but theres definitely a huge difference with videos.

You won't be paying any extra for the 4G...

I thought the $30 data plan covered 3G and 4G (as in it's not any extra)?

I'm still waiting for the Xperia Play, but if I don't hear anything official in the next week or so, I might bite on the Incredible 2. From the Inc. S reviews, it gets significantly better batter life than the Tbolt and the form factor is definitely preferable to me. 4.3" is way too big for me, I think.

Thats why he said 'you won't be paying any extra for 4g'

If size is a factor, check this out:

The thunderbolt and the incredible 2 are very similar in size. That's really what tipped me in favor of the tbolt.
