Was getting on the wifes nerves playing Mass Effect while she's trying to watch American Idol so I invested in a gaming headset. Looked around thru some reviews and the Carcharias was always very highly rated so I bit on one on sale at Best Buy for $75. Not a smoking deal but fair I thought.

The build quality of these things is pretty solid. Nothing feels cheap, flimsy or plasticy. The mic feels very solid and seems well built. Even the clip on remote feels really solid.

The comfort is outstanding. I had a 6 hour Mass Effect marathon Friday night and never really noticed they were even there. The cushions never got sweaty or all funky either.

The sound quality for games Id rate a solid 8. The bass is pretty decent and the highs are nice and clean but maybe a little hot on the 5KHz and above. Voices and midrange sound fairly natural without any brassiness. Ive got a pretty nice set of Logitech 2.1 speaker system I dropped a couple hundred on and these things sound a little better (except for sub bass obviously). Im running these out of the headphone jack on the Logitech and not the integrated sound card on my motherboard. The amp on the Logitech is much more powerful so obviously they sound better on it.

The surprise was in music sound quality. All the gaming headsets Ive tried or listened to before were never that great at music but these are actually very good. The crisp, clear highs in games were a little much in music though. Not overwhelming or fatiguing really but still noticeable. I wouldnt recommend them strictly for music of course but Id have no problem plugging them into my stereo upstairs and sitting back for a couple hours of listening. Id give them a 7.5 in music and maybe even an 8 depending on what type you listen to and how you like it to sound.

I dont do any multiplayer (but may in the future) so I havent used the mic and cant offer anything on it.

So overall Im extremely pleased. Im sure there are a lot better headsets out there for but $80, I dont think you can beat these.

If youre looking for a quality gaming headset that can also offer solid performance in music and are looking in the under $100 range, Id highly recommend giving these a look. I havent heard a whole lot of headsets so take this all with a grain of salt but I have been competing in car audio sound quality competitions for the last 6 years so I do have a pretty good handle on what sounds good.

These are EPIC headphones for the price. I LOVE mine however they JUST got eeked out by my new Pioneer SE-A1000, however this is a bit of apples and oranges because the Pioneers don't have a mic. The Carcharias are really good gaming headphones they sound TONS better then the Corsair HS1As I got thinking would be better and now they belong to my step son.

Great great headset for sure. +1 on the music quality too.

Two friends of mine have this headset. While I would never swap out my Denon AH-D5000 + logitech desktop mic for it, I do like the Carcharias - not a bad headset for the price at all. Thanks for your impressions.

How would you compare the two (Carcharias/HS1A) in terms of comfort?

The HS1/1As "FEEL" way more sturdy then the Carcharias however the Carcharias never bent or warped on me and I am by no means easy on my gear. The Corsairs just have a very think plastic frame that make them feel more sturdy. However over time I've seen these thick plastic frames (I'm pointing at you Plantronics) crack over time.

They are both very comfortable to answer your initial question that I almost forgot to answer :p.
