You have to admit, these guys have a point. What good is 105Mbs speed when your bandwidth cap stays the same? You are just paying more to reach your bandwidth cap faster.

Today, our friends at Comcast announced their new tier of Comcastically fast broadband service in 40 metropolitan areas. It promises speeds of up to 105 Mbps. Zoom! The future is here. So, with that zippy download speed, Xfinity Extreme get higher download caps, right?

This is the trend we are going to see as all monopolies the isp's have grows even greater.

I got Comcast's latest door hanger yesterday.

"We have completed our on-site inspection of your cable lien, and it appears that you are receiving services that are not on our records, we have discontinued these services. Due to our error, we can now offer you a special activation fee!"

Ha ha fk'ing douchebags, great way to convince me to sign up to your service. By accusing me of stealing it. Been using DSL and Sat, there was never any Comcast coming through my lines (checked for free CableTV when we moved in :D). What a bunch of shitheads.

I think Charter has Comcast beat in the "SUCKS" department.

Comcast once physically disconnected my line out of the blue.. When I called them about it they admitted they got the wrong house, but that it would take 4 days to get a tech out there to reconnect it.

If you know you're going to go over the 250GB cap they also offer uncapped 50Mbps for $389 a month.

i never knew that the download caps for comcast is 250GB, i'm not sure i've reached it anymonth, but gonna keep eye out if this is i'm gonna have to wave my hands for comcast and get on DSL

I don't care about the download speed anymore. I will be impressed when I see their own internal network route anywhere in their own network and keep it below 10ms. I also want upload speed to match download speed.

250 gb cap. Normal users that more than enough, but what's the point of faster service if not for more bandwith. But hey, I'd happily pay for that right now.

20 gb cap and 30 kBps speed for $130 a month. Go Edge City Networks!

Oh, did I mention. I also setup and maintain the network. Edge City just provides me the hardware.

To top off the annoyance factor. If you're ever late paying a bill, you pay a late fee....... but if cable is ever knocked out due to a storm or whatever, do we ever get credited for the down time?

I see no accusation of stealing in that paragraph. I see them admitting a mistake had been made where they've provided services where they shouldn't be.

I guess some people will have to change providers or start going to Porn Addicts Anonymous. I wont. I'm on Time Warner. :D

I never had much of a problem with Charter...of course, Wisconsin is a little weird with their network setup compared to the rest of their service area.

You know, I used to tell people who bitched about the cap to calm down and stop whining...

Almost nobody will use that much. Well, I started paying attention and running bandwidth reports at my home and I found that with 1 TV streaming netflix, 1 desktop (Steam downloads mostly account for the big files there, no "linux ISOs" ), 1 laptop and my phone and nook (minimal amount of downloading there) I used 130GB last month.

If you considered a typical home with 2 or more people doing netflix, gaming and watching hulu I could easily see where 250GB would get eaten up very quickly

The bypass for bandwidth cap is to get the equivalent speed on a business account, but then that's double the cost the last I checked.

Some website should keep a list of large corporations which don't suck, and deserve our business. I have a feeling that list would be very small.

Charter did that once here. Only took a few hours for them to send someone out to plug us back in IIRC.

I did 240Gb in March 2011. That was by using my back up service to restore my main system. We also "tried" netflix, and my wife's netbook was constantly being used. I haven't checked my usage this month. hmm, maybe I should.

I've done 21Gb this month. Guess I need to step up my transfers.

And btw. The download cap is misrepresented. It is actually a total transfer cap, not just downloads. The data usage meter totals all traffic going through your account. I think that kind of sucks. It is also always off by about 3 hours.

I know, I can easily churn down 250 GB without problems. Anime, tv shows, games, porn, JAV, music, Hello! Project content, etc. When I have a good connection, I pull down 500 GB easy. My highest has been 1.5 TB in a single month. Course I had a 1 GB fiber line. That's just for what I download. I don't even have a clue how much I upload.

Hell, I've pulled 40 GB of bandwith off my phone. I'm constantly getting a text from T-Mobile saying they are cutting my speeds in half, as I hit their bandwith cap. Course they don't turn off the service. Just slow the connection down. They probably don't cut it off, as I live in their best service area.

Ahhh...I can't wait to get back to the states. Well, for a little while. Hope to have a job lined up in Japan or Korea by then.

I love my Cox: $45 a month, DOCSIS3 at 2.0 Mbyte down/275kbyte with no known cap limits.

con: it's in Nebraska

The client on only one device in my house shows 240Gb in the last 30 days. That doesn't include any other traffic on that pc like xbmc iceflix streaming, the laptop, two android phones, our home phone on Vonage, and other devices like Wii, xbox 360, etc.

Thats the thing. We have our home phone with Vonage, two Android handsets on Wifi when home, Wii on one TV for streaming Netflix in SD, a desktop set up with XBMC and plugins that stream content from online at times, wifes laptop is on it most of the day and a bluray player which i know is minimal and sporadic but still.....it adds up....and i would consider us a "normal" family in the tech age we find ourselves in

I really don't understand the point of listing all the devices, if most of those devices don't pull shit. From the looks of ppl's devices, odds are high, majority of them don't even pull 1 GB.

If you aren't paying attention to how much you download, then you've probably never reached your cap or got near it. Hell, how many letters have you gotten from your ISPs? How many times has your speeds been cut in half?

Thats stupid, didnt they used to extend the unlimited cap to their highest tier before? Why would they change that now. Its like asking people to drop to the lowest tier of their service since it could reach the cap within the month.

Well, my point is that even with my little devices that don't pull shit I am still going little over half of the cap. If I was to have a room mate or if I was to add another TV or media device I could easily go over.

like Nobody_here said, he is pulling a good bit just doing little shit like streaming SD content on a Wii

If you use the software like xbmc with plugins to the degree you can cut off your cable tv bill, then is when you strangely enough will end up getting near the "cap". Me personally I'm with a smaller ISP with a great network that offers uncapped (not enforced anyways) 10,20,30 and 50 megabit service.

I used 28 GB in January, 16 GB in February, and 33 GB in March. 22 GB so far this month.

I watch movies on Netflix, stream from free sites like Hulu, download games on Steam, am constantly playing multiplayer games, and I generally don't afraid of anything. Just bought a 360 and it downloads all kinds of stuff too.

Even though I don't download my weight in torrents each month, I still think it'd be cool to have Steam games finish downloading faster. I probably won't get this service because they've probably priced it right out of consideration, but I just want to point out that a 250 GB cap is not the end of the world, and doesn't make this upgraded service useless.

This is just stupid, sure normal most users don't need a higher cap, but most users don't need that faster speed the new service offers either.

I hate most of the ISPs i had the displeasure of having service with but come on. We all know more bandwidth doesnt mean you automatically start downloading more stuff, unless youre one of those people who feel a need to max out their connection 24/7 torrenting stuff they never end up using (and in that case you very well deserve to be capped). It simply means you get the stuff you would have usually downloaded faster.

My Charter service is out of Eauclaire as well. Never run into any major problems either, other than occasional service outages and one point where something they changed on their end caused me to have some issues. They were out a day later and thought they had it fixed, but the tech actually came back to my place at the end of his shift to see if it was still working (it wasn't) then made a few calls to get it fixed. The next day he called me in the morning to see if it worked (it did). So gotta say I was impressed by that. Especially as there were three of them here for like four-five hours working on it.

A while back I spoke with a Comcast Rep about the Cap. And he suggested I get a business account for like $20 more a month. Business Accounts have NO Bandwidth Cap.

The catch is that I'm certain Albuquerque doesn't have the 105Mb/s speeds...

Oh, and I never went back to Comcast because of all the trouble I had with them trying to throttle my bandwidth way back when... And NO I'm not sure they still do that, but I didn't want to find out.

The flip side is that Qwerst is really craptastic! Any time you go off their Network you are Gimped. And they only have one Modem/Router that will work with their higher speed services (I have 20Mb down and 5Mb up). This Modem / Router is the Actiontech Q1000. Which is rather limited in features and seems to have a fairly high failure rate. Ours currently likes to shut down under heavy loads which forces it to pick up a new IP, and that just doesn't work for most MMOs. As in its pretty much an instant disconnect!

I so wish UPS would deliver that replacement ASAP...

No, he says he pulls 240 GB from his single client, not his Wii or the other devices, which aren't calculated into that total.

Unless you have the Wii set to stream SD content 24/7, it's not going to reach 240 GB.

I'm the type to torrent 24/7 and I pay for the highest service available. Maybe they need to make a service for these kind of users. Right now I pay $510 a month for 80 GB of bandwith going 30 KB/s (Afghanistan - I buy 4 accounts with 20 GB limit each). My last connection was a Clear 3G/4G usb device for $60 a month, 1.5 mbps Verizon dsl (best I could get in my area), and T-Mobile data plan for my android for $30 a month (not including voice/text and I tethered it). I used them all at the same time.

Right now no ISP makes any kind of service for my type. How hard would it be to like, tell me I went over the cap. Then offer me a higher service, like $200 extra a month for zero cap or something.
