Dell U3011 coming soon.

anyone else experience dizziness / nausea after playing a game on this monitor? just played a game for about 40 mins and now very dizzy. monitor is about 2 feet away.

Whoops, missed that you said that you experienced the dizziness while playing a game. What's most likely happening with that is that you're filling your vision with the game view so your mind sees the movement while your inner ear is not detecting any movement. The disconnect can cause dizziness and nausea; the only way to prevent this is to reduce the amount of screen that's filling your vision- ie. sit further back.

I really haven't had any issues with text size with the U3011, the U2711 is much more difficult in terms of text readability due to pixel density :p

In a for a few couple thousand dollar monitors... I don't think so. That and the fact that they're not on the Dell Outlet site.
They do have them, but they do not last long. A matter of hours usually. You have to keep checking. That is how I got mine.

I was thinking of ordering the Chroma 5 model ... it's 500$ already. I can't find myself to spend 1000$ on a spectroradiometer for something I will use twice in my life.

I wonder if you can rent a color calibrator, since they are so expensive and a normal person would get very infrequent use out of them...

What kind of warranty did you get on the refurb unit?

the warranty is 90 days with a 21 day return window from the date the monitor is shipped from Dell. You may get lucky and find that your monitor service tag is actually linked to a longer warranty, but that is not their policy.

it does not come with a three year warranty - the link you provided only applies to desktop and laptop computer purchases. I have talked to no less than five dell representatives about this.

Oh i see, well lucky I didn't order any monitors from outlet.

I think it's a good deal for people as an alternative to buying a used 30" on the forums or something - a limited warranty is better than none and the 20 day windows to return it if there is a problem could prove extremely necessary.

Seems like calling Dell Home/SB and talking the price of a new unit down to ~$1050 is a better deal than $900 for a refurb due to the 3yr warranty for new units.

So let me get this straight.
Are we in the rev A02 era now?,because i spoke with dell here in Greece yesterday and they told me that there's only one revision of this monitor.

There are 3 revisions so far A00, A01, A02. Dell support refuses to explain the changes or they simply don't know. I have tried (3) A01's, all have the custom color mode problem. Can someone with an A02 reproduce the custom color bug?

Just got my 3011 and the colors are good but the text is horrible. At max resolution, I can not see the worlds. Increasing dpi to the max makes no difference. I can only read text at 1920x1200 and it is blurry then. My graphics card is can do 2560x1600. Everything looks soft and blurry.
I changed dvi cable. This thing is going back :(

Take a photograph and show it to us.

Text is indeed pretty small, wish this was around 32", would have been perfect I think, 2560x1600 at 32".

Good monitor nevertheless, cancelled my 3rd, and keeping 2 for now. Using one as my main, on a radial arm, very similar setup to this:

And I put the other one on the wall, hooked up to a nettop, cycling automatically thru a bunch of different browser tabs.

I got 2x 2007WFP 20.1" to go with my U3011 (got both in MINT condition, used, for 350$) in portrait mode. It is unbelievably awesome for work, and coming from dual 22" on TN panels, having an all IPS panel setup is quite the amazingsauce.

I ordered an Eye Display 2 Pro from curtpalme which should be here on Monday so I can calibrate all three, and will post pictures then.

I am pondering getting a 2nd 6970, though I find my single card does well in 2500x1600. Runs hot, but I got an EK block coming next week. Besides, I'll need to upgrade my PSU if I get a 2nd 6970...

I even changed vid cards and no change. Some of the text looked invisible. I called dell and they are shipping a replacement.:)

Glad its getting replaced.

Mine is having the custom color problem if I turn off the pc and monitor for a extended period. Happened twice so far. Does not really bother me though, just pull the power cable with the monitor on and plug it back in and it goes back to normal =/

A 1.3k monitor should not have those kinds of problems.

I experienced it as well.

How does Dell experience replacements? They wait until you ship yours back?

Yes I agree, it should not happen, im just happy mine is flawless other then that.

Yes I believe you contact them and they will do an advance exchange.

Has the problem been fixed for sure with a revision a03?

If so I will probably send mine back as well.

Dell told me they would send me a replacement. In the box of the replacement monitor, there is a return shipping label. I use that same box to ship my defective monitor back to dell.

I will give them a call and see if they`ll replace it. I did not buy it from them directly though (authorized retailer).

i got my refurb u3011 and it has one single stuck pixel. it's green on a black background. i haven't been able to find any others. would dell replace it for 1 pixel?

Ok just got my replacement for my refurb and I dont know if this one is new or refurb. I think it may be new. But I still have the same problems with near invisible text. I tried replacing the gpu from a gtx 260 to a hd6950 and no difference. I can only assume the problem is with the low quality dvi cable dell provides. Should I try a higher quality cable?
I will post a pic for you to see.

The first 3 images were made with windows snipping tool and the images are good though they do not look llike that on this monitor. THe last 3 are made with digital camera and look like what I am seeing on this monitor. How is it the snipping tool captures a perfect image that this monitor is not displaying?

Screen shots capture what the operating system is sending to your video card, it can never capture what your display device is showing. The only way to do that is with a camera :)

Which is why I also used a digital camera on lthe las 3 pix..
Any advice?

The u3011 is clearly a defective product. I have had two of them. Both refurb. I have used two diff computers and 3 diff vid cards, a gtx260, a gts250 and a hd6950. All with the same results.
I really need some suggestions on what else to try. I wonder if there is something in the bios I could change?

Have you tried a different cable? If you scale the text up does the problem scale accordingly? I honestly don't see how the monitor could possibly be causing that.

Scaling up the text does not help. Lowering the resolution helps some. I ordred dual link dvi cable from Monoprice, the "premium cable", and we will see if that helps.
