The new .xxx domain is barely a week old and is already drawing criticism and the possibility of India seeking to block the implementation of the domain. India, Indonesia and some countries in the Middle East are opposed to the move on the part of ICANN and may move to block the entire domain.

Internet activists and cyber law experts said the Indian government will find it tough to block such websites under the current regulations.

Wasn't the point of the xxx domain so that it would be easier to define what a website was and to block it? Even if that wasn't the point, it sure will make it easy.
Oh, and if they don't want the xxx domain, don't go there. Simple as that.

Why would they find it touch to block such websites? Wouldn't it be easier if they're all under one group: .xxx?

I would wager that most of these tards do not even know what they are fighting. If anything you would think they would be in support of this as it would allow them more control in blocking "immoral" websites. Honestly especially if you are religious this should be a move that you are in full support of.

I swear, peoples stupidity never ceases to amaze me.

Wont all these porn sites already have or get the matching .com address anyway? Unless you stop porn sites from using anything except .xxx then to me this TLD will never be anything except a bad attempt to make money. You cant exactly force porn sites to only use .xxx as then you have one group arbitrarily deciding what is porn. Microsoft will be forced to get microsoft.xxx in case it gets used by small flaccid penis fetishists.

India wants to be a little communist. Test the waters see how much fun it is oppressing others.

Giving porn their own domain legitimizes, or gives special recognition, to the industry. Even if only a little. Having a xxx domain would only make things easier for filtering, if all xxx providers forced over to the new domain. It is unclear if that would, or even could happen. Various governments and hard liners of numerous religions would rather keep the current setup, and NOT under any circumstances give even the slightest legitimacy to that industry.

I am not saying I agree, because I don't, but their actions here are logical if you look at it from the pov of their respective religions.

You don't understand how this is actually being administered and why this wouldn't happen. I'm not surprised.

The religious groups opposed the domain (probably because they thought it would make porn easier to find). The porn industry opposed the domain. Some domains I can understand but xxx seems redundant the way DNS is now.

Its a TLD. All the major porn companies/sites will get xxx domains just like most companies do with other TLDs. Unless there are restrictions put in place only allowing porn sites to register them (I saw no mention of that) other companies will end up registering xxx domains to protect their brand even if it just points to their homepage.

From Wikipedia: "ICM is expected to make over $200 million a year, with 3 to 5 million domain registrations, as companies are anticipated to defensively register their domains."

The whole registration system is whack - trying to find a good domain name (.com or .net) these days is like trying to use your name to register a google username. It's always going to end up with characters and numbers.

There are restrictions put in place:
3. Who can register a .XXX domain?
Individuals, business, entities, and organizations that; provide online, sexually-oriented adult entertainment (“Online Adult Entertainment”) intended for consenting adults or for other community members (“Providers”);
Represent Providers (“Representatives”); or
Provide products or services to Providers and Representatives (“Service Providers”) are eligible to register .XXX domain names.

Those restrictions are useless and stupidly ambiguous. A forum that allows swearing might be considered eligible as might a sites like DeviantArt. If someone has a spork fetish would that allow cutlery sites to register xxx domains? If not and someone registered microsoft.xxx by those rules Microsoft could not seize the domain because they dont offer adult services even though they own the trademark. Are they going to check eligibility against every possible worldwide trademark?

Its just a money grab and nothing more.

Thats my point. Who decides what IS sexually-oriented adult entertainment? Merely saying the F -word might be to some. An image showing breasts might be to others.

Easy to define porn, "visible pecker, back bum or front bum touching anything".

Everyting else is just crap.

An arbitrary organization run by who? It'll end up being controlled by some left-wing/right-wing/religious group who will try to impose their rules on everyone else.

Thats fine as long as 'adult sites' aren't forced to use xxx domains but how long will that last.

An .xxx domain won't reduce porn websites on .com in the slightest. No one is going to give up their .com domain names and porn spammers will ignore the .xxx domain.

more than half of the .info TLD's are used for spam or drive by trojans, and I imagine .xxx will end up the same, if not worse.

Yeah, If .xxx gets it's own domain I can see that. Not that it matters to me. I intend to block that domain at the router. Nothing against porn mind you, just no sense inviting spam, trojans, and the like.

If certain countries want to block the XXX in THEIR countries, why would anyone give a shit?
