Official Crysis 2 Thread

the game does suck in its present state but Crytek still has a chance to redeem themselves with the DX11 patch...if they don't release it then Crytek has lost all credibility and has sold out to consoles

My concern is that it's just a patch. The engine wasn't built from the ground up with DX11 in mind. How much better will a simple patch make this game look? I'm hoping it will be a big difference but remain skeptical.

So let me ask this and excuse me if I did not see it as the thread is over 20 pages long, but would you do the same thing, go for the high cash cow that the console market offers?

Since this is Hard I am betting most of you will say no which is a very acceptable answer. And I dont blame you as they have been bragging about this for a while now. As being a former mod developer I would also be pissed about the lack of support. So I see them failing on many fronts with this. But at the end of the day money does talk so I guess I am not surprised....

With Crysis, I felt that the emphasis was on visual fidelity, the sharp looking textures, for example. With Crysis 2, I feel that they emphasized the use of fancy post processing effects to create that "Oooo, Shiny!" sort of feel.

Edit: Look at this bullshit I just dredged up; http://www.destructoid.com/crytek-crysis-2-is-developed-for-pc-first-not-consoles-197050.phtml

We have plenty of reason to be complaining, the console fanboys are just too self-absorbed and ignorant to understand.

companies don't make innovative games anymore....they only make what will make the most money....

yea and thats just how it is...heck, if I could invent some stupid thing, i'd rather sell it to 10 million people over a much smaller crowd for the same price.

I happen to agree and I play lot of games on the great hardware. What looks better is very subjective but to say that the graphics in Crysis 2 suck, that's just ridiculous negative hype.

EXACTLY.

Is it is good as Crysis? Debatable. Is it one of the best looking games out right now even with only minor updates to the engine? HELL YES.

Other things I like - I appreciate not having to pop up a menu (by default) to trigger the suit features you use constantly.

So, when Crysis comes out *everyone* including the people here bitched about how it brought their machines to their knees even on half-assed settings. Now, Crytek specifically makes the game playable and still beautiful no matter WHAT bandwagonners want to say - and no, it really doesn't matter that it plays so well just because it was meant to be cross platform... and you bitch and moan about how betrayed you feel about it not beating the hell out of your thousand dollar video solution...

I swear, you don't even KNOW what you want.

Oh, and you can complain all you like about console ports and console style - but those console developers are subsidizing the dying PC genre and we as a community need to suck it up a bit.

The only thing I am annoyed with is the lack of promised dx11, but I'm even willing to give Crytek the benefit of the doubt and expect it in a future patch like they are now saying is going to happen.

So, when Crysis comes out *everyone*...bitched about how it brought their machines to their knees even on half-assed settings.

Nope. Completely wrong.

I didn't bitch. I loved the fact that we had a new super high benchmark of the ultimate performance and the ultimate graphics experience. My X800XT at the time (IIRC) choked on it. I didn't care. It just made me want to upgrade.

Oh and also, there are more than 3000 console commands that can be entered to tweak your graphics, including the complaints about FoV. Since when have we as PC gamers have we started relying ONLY on menu options to tweak our games?

Lazy young bastards. My cfg file for Quake was hundreds of lines long and I had to type a console command JUST TO TURN IT ON... AND WE LIKED IT THAT WAY!

Yeah, and for every thread talking about how awesome it was to have a game that used your hardwrae, there were three bitching about FPS drops on lower settings.

Good for you that you didn't complain.

Look at all the MAD console gamers coming in to white-knight Crysis 2 after Kyle told it how it is.

Heh, you know the term applied to those that don't have an opinion and just support what others said, without actually knowing it to be true ?

Sheep.

I did too, but he's right. I'd say about 50-70% of the posts on here when Crysis came out were folks bitching that it didn't run well enough because they couldn't run it on max settings using their SLI/X-Fire beast machines. There is no winning with some people. That's not to say 50-70% of the users here were complaining... but the complainers are always the loudest and post the most.

There were also some legitimate complaints, such as how the second half of the game lost all of its free form nature, but they were drowned out by the mass muck.

didn't Crytek add a DX10 + 64-bit patch to Crysis 1?

Well Crytek's previous games at least set the bar graphically. The games themselves were usually not the greatest, but graphically they all set the bar high. This one if anything is under the bar they set four years ago and there is no reason for that.

.far cry gameplay is what brought me back to FPS's. i was getting sick of the on rials, puzzle console bs shooters had become. Far cry save the monkes was amazing. I still remember the amazing jungle battles. some of the most amazing tactical battles i had in a game, without the complexity of an arma 2. it was absolutely innovative, far better than HL2. My entire law school floor, played that game.

Crysis, loved the mission structure of the first half of game, it is one of the most immersive fps, unlike feeling like im in an amusement park ala cod, it felt like was fighting a war in a jungle.

crysis 2 is a step back in almost all respect. micheal jordan was never held to the same standard as other basketball players, nor was lawrence taylor, or jimi hendrix, nor is crytek. people are complaining because it is crytek, more was/is expected of them.

Red Orchestra 2.

That is all.

Look at all the MAD console gamers coming in to white-knight Crysis 2 after Kyle told it how it is.

That would be easy, wouldn't it?

Except I didn't even own an xbox until this past December, and I don't play it - we got it for my wife and her love of dancing games.

But you go ahead and think what you like.

Crysis 2 deserves a 7.5 out of 10 rating. Is it awesome - eh, not really. Does it suck? Not on your life.

I didn't bitch either but everyone one who's honest and kept up with it remembers all the comments about how poorly optimized Crysis 1 was. This very forum is full of those comments.

I recall it was only a minority of people with crappy cards who kept posting over and over.

I would agree with that. But every mainstream review site has given it around a 9 out of 10, totally ignoring all PC features missing or removed, simply copying the console review in many cases. It is really infuriating.

I full-on agree with that.

Altho many of the "missing or removed" items can be found in the console command list - they just aren't in the menus. That is annoying but as a long time hardcore PC gamer, it just isn't a deal breaker for me.

Heh, you know the term applied to those that don't have an opinion and just support what others said, without actually knowing it to be true ?

Sheep.

If you're referring to me, I've already posted plenty of screenshots breaking down how inferior Crysis 2 is compared to the original and I've also written a fairly detailed review of the game.

DX11 can't be turned on. MP bigger than 8v8 can't be turned on. Higher res textures can't be turned on.

I wonder if the Crysis 2 Demo config mod version 2 would work with the final game.
It created a batch file that you used to launch the game. It might work if you pointed it to the retail exe file.
The author said he would move the current version over to the full game a few days after release.
Here's the steam thread about it:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1776333

Here's the download link for version 2 that uses a batch file instead of modifying the exe file.
http://www.rush-zone.com/downloads/gaming/crysis-2/crysis2configv2/details.html

This is the batch file I was running it on: (1 is on 0 is off)

@echo off
cd C:\Games\Demos\Crysis 2\bin32
start Crysis2Demo.exe +cl_crouchToggle=1 +cl_zoomToggle=1 +i_mouse_accel=0 +g_skipIntro=1 +cl_fov=70 +r_DrawNearFoV=70 +pl_movement.power_sprint_targetFov=70 +r_motionblur=0 +g_radialBlur=0 +r_Flares=0 +r_Glow=0 +r_HDRRendering=0 +r_SSAO=0 +q_ShaderHDR=0 +r_ColorGrading=0 +r_MultiGPU=0 +r_MultiThreaded=1 +g_useHitSoundFeedback=1 +e_shadows=1 +r_FSAA=0 +r_UseEdgeAA=0 +r_TexMaxAnisotropy=16 +d3d9_TextureFilter=trilinear

Can anyone with the retail version share his experience about this matter ? 70% of the demo bitching was just because of these issues the other 30% was from ppl with sucky point and click skills who got their egos destroyed :p

You aren't the center of the universe, why would you assume my post was addressed to you (unless you are a MAD console gamer white-knighting Crysis 2)?

I like listening to Console noobs talk on forms like neoGAF about PC games like they know what they are talking about.

Hell I have a PC to play PC games and consoles to play console made games like fricking super mario bros. Most console noobs never Touch a real FRicking game PC or PC game ever.

My fav though are Console noob Reviewers like Jim sterling on http://www.destructoid.com/ (who hates PC people for the same reason i don't like him) or Jermey parish on www.1up.com that it is so obvious they have never been around real PC or online death match in there whole life(and own only macs.) and try to talk about it in text or a podcast. it sounds like the dudes on Fox news channel that are "experts" on video games and the "sex"and "full nudity" in mass effect (mass effect also dumbed down and bought out for console noobs thanks microsoft!)

And there is a lot of console noob reviewers on IGN or Gamespot too... Except for Jason ocamo who is the Guy who grilled the Crysis team about the PC version he was the only guy there I trusted to talk about a PC game or most games but he left IGN now there is no real PC news there -->>. http://stars.ign.com/objects/142/14238073.html

and Jeff Green and his crew at www.1up.com are gone now you cant get any real dudes who know PC games at that site anymore either. But the console noob reviewers on those sites will think Crysis 2 looks amazing and plays like wine in a gold cup.

Oh and Jim sterling posted this story of crytek saying Crysis 2 was made for the pc and it gave me lulz. http://www.destructoid.com/crytek-crysis-2-is-developed-for-pc-first-not-consoles-197050.phtml

jim sterling also reviewed it and it gave me more LULZ http://www.destructoid.com/review-crysis-2-196986.phtml

I think Crytek missed the boat for PC gamers.

Their game-play or stories have never been that innovative. But their graphics have been. Crytek has been synonymous with "holy crap, did you see that?" and this release doesn't live up to that.

When I first got Crysis, my machine was teh suck. As I upgraded over the years it got prettier and prettier and I enjoyed replaying it just to run around and marvel at it.

When a title is optimized for a five year old console you get Crysis 2.

When there's a new hardware release you won't see any one say "lol, yeah but will it run Crysis 2?"

Hardware got better, graphics stayed the same. What we really needed was more BLOOM and blur? I hate unlockables in multiplayer, do the experienced players really need more advantages (besides the aimbots)? I'm also in the "prefer open sandbox" camp. Rails suck. I also hate enemies spwaning in cleared rooms. I wouldn't call it a 2/10, but 9/10 seems like paid for crap. Honestly, it's a 6 or 7 out of 10. Might buy it if my friends have it, after it drops under 10$.

You would rate it a 6 or 7 out of 10 even though you haven't played through it.

Got it.

Maybe Kyle can tell us now what PC game reaches the graphical bar he has set?

lol, what is it with you guys.
Kyle clearly addressed the game play aspect too.

Its not just about graphics, Kyle addressed two most important aspect that could have made the game great, open game play (which was what made Crysis and Farcry great) and challenging, and he found neither in this game.

wait, so let me get this straight...

Crysis 2. The sequel to (arguably) the single biggest DX10 game (or games if you include warhead, which I enjoyed) in terms of visuals and use of DX10... Doesn't use DX10?

How does this make any sense on any level?

It uses DX10 but everyone expected DX11 support.

It makes sence when you realize it is a console sellout and PC-gamers gets shafted

Yes that's true and that's his opinion and he's entitled to it like anyone else here. Doesn't make him the be all end all in gaming does it? No it doesn't. It's just 1 man's opinion. Kyle's opinion carries weight I get it. He has the communities respect here as well as my own but there's a point where I see ass kissers and then I have to call bs. There are people in this thread that are bashing this game to pieces without playing it or giving it any fair shake just to get on the wagon. Again I share the same issues alot of you guys do but there's a point where I have to say this isn't rocket science, we aren't curing cancer and this isn't life or fucking death. It's a godam game and in games you either have fun or you don't. Or you can bitch about every little fuckin thing that annoys you and gets in the way of ANY fun ever. Ask yourself which you are....

I can see why he's annoyed and what bothers him since I share some of the same sentiments. However I also think he went way over the top in his assessment and I also think as a result of his rant on the front page it gave free rein to all the trolls to jump on the bandwagon. Somewhere between the trollers, ranters and over exageraters is the truth.
