Official Crysis 2 Thread

Guys go play a game called arma 2

it ticks all the boxes on what Kyle and most pc users are looking for:

 1. Graphics that will push any machine down to its knees
 2. inovative game play mechanics
 3. Realistic Hardcore sim type of game
 4. Mod support
 5. Amazing Longetivity for both online and offline due to mods and mission editing utility
 6. Huge open world, 10 times bigger than GTA4
 7. Did i mention the sheer amount of content ?

Is the game open to the mod community like part 1 was? Can they take a crack at it?

I don't know, it seems less open. As far as I know Crysis didn't have a REAL texture pack anyways. The packs I know of were just the original textures run through filters to attempt to make them look more detailed. Really what the game needs is a full rework like Qarl did for Oblivion.

Oh man, I love Qarl's work.

I wanted so badly to like this but I knew in the demo when it took me three steps to pick up a box of ammo I might be in trouble.

Here's to praying that Battlefield 3 will be a solid smash on the PC. We need more developers realizing that consoles are just as easily exploited as PCs are.

It's looking that way. I still have high hopes for The Witcher 2 also, PC developed

This is true for me. Though it seems like a lot of people here are raging about the graphics, I don't care too much. From what I've seen, they look nice (though not as good as the original's).

But, the gameplay evaluations I've seen describe it as much smaller in scope, linear, on-rails, CoD-like enemy spawning... there's plenty not to like here. I actually don't mind linear gameplay... HL2 is one of my favorite games. But it's not what I expect from a game with the Crysis name. If Crytek wanted to design a game like this, they should have went with a new IP. As for this one, I'll wait until its <=$20.

i too dont mind linear games. i loved uncharted 1 and 2 for example. what wowed me was the storyline, characters and the game levels designs. each level or chapter was different, unique and offered different experiences for me

I have found it is a mixed bag as to what looks better in Crysis 1 and whaqt looks better in crysis 2. I think the suit, suit effects and weapons look much better in crysis 2. I think some of the textures in crysis 2 need work (granted I am running on medium so high might be better) and the foliage in crysis 1 seemed quite a bit better but is not the focus of Crysis 2. Overall I think Crysis 2 looks quite a bit better, but the inability to turn of motion blur takes it down several pegs for me. The engine does seem to run quite smoothely though.

Thank you for saying what needed to be said Kyle! I am a hard core FPS gamer, not the MP but the single campaigns. Dumbed down graphics, interface and shorter play time has become an epidemic on the pc due to one size fits all on the Xbox360, PC and PS3.

I wish parents would stop buying these crappy $60 console games for their kids! I guess the only innovation were going to get is when the new consoles come out...bllaahh, they'll just blame poor pc sales on piracy again instead of realizing it was just a turd. :(

I'll pick it up on Steam when it hits the $4.99 weekend special.

Laugh, I grabbed the demo a while back and it was literally uninstalled 10 mins later. It's for consoler kiddies.

Arma 2 is a cracking game. its not for the feint hearted and requires a "brain" to play it unlike COD and all these other generic FPS games.

Arma 2 deserve every penny i give them. awsome series.

For the people that keeps doubting BF3 for pc, let me assure you that the game looks and sounds amazing. I went to C2E2 and saw a live demo of the game. Basically, the exact same gameplay you saw in the 2 videos, but extended versions of it. The audio and visual's are even more sharp and clearer than what the video showed. So happy that a studio is finally rising to the occasion and delivering a game that can take advantage of my hardware. I asked the presenter about the specs he was running on and he mentioned 580. There were slow downs at one point where the rpg rocket hits the car, and the m4 kept recoiling even though no shots were fired, but the demo was pretty damn impressive.

I bought it from cdkeyshere.com for $27 (or 19€ instead of the retail €50) and I still feel this was a waste, it would be an okay game if it didn't had Crysis in the title, because this is an insult to the fanbase that made them what they are today, I feel bad after buying this because it means I supported this crap..

Can anyone actually come up with a valid explanation for the Call of Duty comparisons?

CoD is the video game equivalent of a popcorn movie.

Crysis 2, despite its "streamlining", has much more depth and is far better looking.

Streamlining is another word for dumbing down for the console noobs that call of duty impresses then for some reason and that is pretty much what crysis 2 is a theme park ride game like call of duty 4.

I k id you not when I first went up to pick up my xbox 360 5 years ago at launch to play Kameo (the better launch game also better graphics for a console game.)

There was a huge group of mostly punk teens and kids and early 20 somthings literly drooling over the crap graphics of the xbox 360 port of call of duty 2 on a demo unit …

I could hear oooos and ahhs like It the most amazing thing they have ever seen happen in front there eyes and not notcing how they could not hit anything worth crap with the slow analog stick aiming.

To me it just looked like battlefield 2 running with the graphics on medium and low settings and sluggish analog stick aiming.

I remember back in the old xbox 1 live days they used to let you pick servers and crap with a ping time they they started that matchmaking crap because console noobs could not handle it or something. I hear over the head set what does this ping crap mean why so I have red bars? Hell the crap port of UT2003 to the xbox even let you run a dedicated server on your XBOX and xbox live had some dedicated servers then. If I did not get my Xbox live free from work I would not go anywhere near it.

So ya console FPS noobs do not think or work the same as PC FPS people and Call of duty and Crysis 2 has been slowly dumbed down and created for there strange taste they do not know better and any one I have ever talked to has never been with in 20 feet of a real PC with a mouse and keyboard they have no idea what it is like and mindlessly think they xbox 360 way is superior.

I should of known when i downloaded the demo, and it deteced my 360 controller right off the bat.

Usually that is not a good sign

While sometimes true, Crysis 1, Warhead, and Far Cry all do that.

What geometry? It's just a bunch of square buildings. The jungle was way more complex.

^I think this is an argument for explaining the real differences here. Model detail is better in C2 (so far, only an hour in), but having replayed the original recently, the foliage and jungle details on max settings are truely brilliant I think. Would like to see some of those jungle levels rendered with C2.

I also think Crytek has done themselves a disservice by not allowing advanced graphics settings. GTX460's with smooth FPS on extreme @ 1080 res, is great... but lets see the f*ck all setups showing the PC as the superior platform ONLY because the power is there to use, so give the option.

I also don't see console gamers really giving a shit about Crysis 2 b/c it has no significance to them like it does to the PC crowd. I could be wrong.

Overall its an enjoyable game. Kudos to it not running like crap, but what was sacrificed to get there is worse. Whatev's.

I agree there is nothing worse then most of the programers going we'll make it crappy for the console users because they don't know better.

I don't know what makes me more pissed. That a 4 year old game has better graphics or that console games cost 60-70 each feel like they are drawn and story boarded by 6 graders!

If they wanted to make a crappy game, at least they could not call it Crysis. Even more so when all the things that made the original game a instant classic are mostly gone!

Even more so that a game originally designed and released as an episode based game took 4 years for the second game.

Kyle, thank you for saving me my money. I just got my money back from my reserve.

Can anyone actually come up with a valid explanation for the Call of Duty comparisons?

In regards to the multiplayer:

8v8 max
very small maps
perks and unlocks
killstreaks (with EXACT functions at the EXACT kill numbers as CoD)
killcams

to name a few.

LAUGHS funny when i bought those games I didnt have a 360 controller.

The reason it does that have nothing to do with consoles. When MS tried to get serious about PC gaming they auto detected the 360 controler. This is a good thing because for a lot of PC releases a controler is a nice option, and really the 360 one is better than most crap out on the market.

Quote: "I hope Cevat Yerli chokes on this giant flaccid floppy penis of a game, while he is pulling out his overstuffed-wallet. Yeah, I just said that, and I meant it."
Well said,Kyle, but I'll go it one better.I hope this game bombs so completely,it puts Crytek out of business, and serves as an example to other game companies of what happens when you screw over the gamers that made you successful in the first place, namely PC gamers.
It isn't just about graphics, though that's an area that's magnified by the first game's status as a graphic's showcase. It's that the only thing this game showcases is just about every flaw and weakness in games developed primarily for consoles, with the PC version a mere afterthought.

FarCry 2 was Multi-Platformed and was one of the best looking PC games of all time. (and still is)

I wanted so badly to like this but I knew in the demo when it took me three steps to pick up a box of ammo I might be in trouble.

I'd never played any of the operation flashpoint series or Arma1 before trying out Arma 2 last year. I entered the bootcamp portion of the game and got incredibly frustrated by the controls and how fiddly it all was and I was quite close to giving up on the game for good. I'd come from a CoD background and was finding everything a bit complicated.

At that point I made one of the best decisions of my gaming life - to stick with it, quit my whinging and give it a proper chance like I did with Stalker: Shadow of Chernoybl. It took a while to get the hang of things in SP. I then tried MP and didn't have a clue what on earth was going on, very little instructions were given for the various game modes and I had no idea which servers were any good. From a total noob's perspective t'was a bit of a nightmare initially.

But I stuck at it and I became accustomed to the controls, familiar with the multiplayer and I found a couple of good servers. This game absolutely rocks and I cannot go back to any CoD style FPS anymore because Arma 2 just offers so much more. The modding scene is extremely vibrant and alive and the developers behind the game, Bohemia Interactive Studios, actively partake in the official forums and listen to the suggestions and gripes of the community. :)

I'd suggest you give Arma 2 a shot again because the rewards outweigh the initial frustration by far. Hop onto one of the SPARTA servers if you feel like giving the multiplayer a go. The spartan community is fairly relaxed and helpful towards new players who express a willingness to learn the ropes.

I

bullshit if you really think thats what programmers think and do. Do you really believe programmers think and make a decision like that? Nope. Porgrammers are fucking slaves that obey whatever bullshit the directors and line managers tell them to do.

i know this as i am a programmer myself and most directors and managers dont give two shits on my opinions of a software.

if you want to voice your fustrations on this game, voice it on the directors and managers who wanted a dumbed down game, not the programers

Correct. An XInput path in a PC game is a good thing, not a bad thing. I've played Quake source ports that have an XInput path for the X360 but still have an incredible DirectInput implementation, so it means nothing (DirectInput and XInput are completely separate).

Oh ya and epic do not even get me started what they have been doing I have not bought one of there games since they started with the whole gears of war crap and put out a lame Unreal tournament 3 that was obviously console noob made even on PC it had a xbox 360 menu on the PC at launch and almost none of the options UT2003 ut 2004 or even ut99 had.

and bullet storm looked kinda cool until they ruined it by console crap then gimping the PC with DRM junk so now I will not touch bulletstorm on PC or the console ever. The PC did not even get a demo so I had to get to the fricking xbox 360 or ps3 to play it and it looked horrible on both of them and controled worse. Ia m just glad i wasted somebody server bandwith downloading the crap console bulletstorm demo for free. I do it ever chance i get even if I don't use what i download just because microsoft is a fricking dick about xbox live server bandwith.

and guess what the Future of games graphics acorsing to epic now is Tacking on DX9 Gpu effects onto unreal engine 3 from like 5 years ago like real time "Subsurface scattering"

ya epic I remember when that was a big deal when ATI x800 had that as a feature 5 fricking years ago and you are just now getting to that epic?

Oh for FFS! Please, sit down before your own head explodes from the amount of shit you are spewing. EPIC screwed the PC crowd [H]ard. Specially with their last known pc release, of which was UT3. WE FUCKING MADE THEM!!! I was there on the megaboards, infogrames, GT Interactive, and then when they were owned by ATARI. UE3 is nothing more than a freakin Tech Demo to be show cased for the next set of Consoles! Have you seen Gears of War 2 or 3 being released on PC????

And I was one to point the finger at Epic for it, but I'm not going to dismiss what they showed with that demo and it is impressive. It shows that they are indeed working on improving their engine and providing an even more realistic experience.
When you get your head out of your ass, you will understand that consoles are here to stay and some compromises will be made.
Unfortunately for PC Gamers, more compromises have been made in regards to the quality of PC Games, than the quality of console games and that's what I don't like.
But the case of Crytek is beyond insane, in regards to some PC Gamers reactions:

1) They criticized Crytek for Crysis 1, that couldn't get 60 fps @ 1920x1080 with 4xAA and high settings on a dual core, with a 8800 GT.

2) They criticized Crytek for Crysis WARHEAD, because they took a step back in terms of graphics, even if performance was better

3) They criticize Crytek for Crysis 2, because it's "DX9 only", even if the graphics are still stunning and runs like a charm.

Do you see the problem here ? Probably not, because your head is wayyyy down there, but the point is simple. This type of reaction alienates more and more developers. More money will be made on consoles than on the PC and if these reactions continue, you can bet that console exclusivity will be the norm very soon...

Look guys there is no need to get upset . Crytek will fix it just like they did with Crysis

they will wait 4 months release a basic patch wait another month and then cancel all further development work on Crysis 2 .

then they will announce a new press release heralding the improved Crysis 2 now called Crysis 2 warhead !! coming to a store near you in 2 months time for the barging price of 30 dollars.

this improved Crysis 2 warhead will have 32 player multiplayer 8 new maps improved performance and yes even support dx 11 out of the box .

so no need to worry Crytek has this all figured out .

Kyle is such a gangster lol. I will not be purchasing Crysis 2 for a long while. Stupid consoles ruining a fun game that brought our rigs to our knees :(

The face of the site featuring a profanity laced rant that's the next best thing to an outright troll isn't the best news post ever, it's a sign of how far downhill things have gone.

Kyle is a no BS guy - he tells it as it is. That's why his reviews rock and are fun to read, and he is my primary source for hardware reviews (especially PSUs). That's also why people will keep coming back to read here: Kyle and the gang will praise good products and companies, and rip the bad ones to shreds. Keep it up, guys. :)

OMG, I just read this entire thread. I must say I was looking forward to getting this game, as I just upgraded my system.

I know why everybody is pissed off, because we spend thousands of dollars on high end hardware, and when a promising new game comes out that doesn't even push the hardware.

btw, I loved Kyle's review! I laughed hard.

I guess I'll save my $60. I'm hoping Battlefeield 3 is better than this.

DA2 = fail
Crysis 2 = fail.

0 for 2 so far this year. Not cool at all.

Wonderful game experience. I launch it this morning after downloading over night, enter my CD key, create an account, bind my buttons, go to play multiplayer: "Serial code in use." Search google, others suggest starting the game as admin, do that, launch game, enter CD key (I have to do this every single goddamned time I launch the game, and the CD key is 20 digits, with no copy-paste allowed, of course) and again "serial code is in use" do this about 10 times to make sure (again entering the CD key each time by hand), and nothing, except once or twice I got the loading screen then it said "connection lost to server". Fucking stupid developers...every other game works on my system, and this is a fresh install of Windows 7 + SP1 with no crap installed. I'm guessing getting my money back from steam is not possibility either, but I haven't looked into it yet...sigh.

I saw a lot of people having this problem over on the steam forums. Not sure if any solution has come along yet though.

VAle software with portal 2 they are giving the PC version away free with the ps3 version on steam...

What the hell is that going to do with sales of the pc version...Hell I got a ps3 as a bluray player mostly and to play ratchet and clank and stuff and even I am tempted to go out and get this fricking ps3 portal 2 disc and never use it and only play the PC version since I get both I mean why not do it?

I fixed that by going to c:\users\"your acc name"\saved games\ right click the crysis2 folder and make sure the read only is not on
