Official Crysis 2 Thread

I noticed this too when walking around with plenty of textures look like complete ass. Lack of SS button in C2, oh wait consoles don't take SS that's right..

the fact that it can be argued wether or not crysis 2 or crysis is better looking is just sad, kinda like the what it felt like when you walked out at the end of the phantom menace. such a shame

I just think this is a lot of PC bias going on here, if I had a nickle for eveyone that posted whishing for the game to fail I'd quit working. A lot of people here just aren't going to be ojective about this game, that's more than obvious. Really other than texturing in places everything about Crysis 2 looks better and it's a TON smoother. There's nothing out right now that looks any better than this on the PC that I've played.

When I walked out of The Phantom Menace I was blown away... best popcorn I ever had! But getting back to Crysis 2, it's a sweet looking game, it really is.

Well I just sat through an hour of EA support chat and I still can't start the game after patching. The rep told me they're sending my issue on up because it's more "complicated". It sucks that I can't play the game at all.

Definitely not as enjoyable as the Crysis and Crysis Warhead... to much console influence on this one.

I played the single player for an hour and a half. I was convinced a pre-order was the right move when I played the multiplayer demo. The fact that they could go from the shell of a game that was Crysis Wars to a tight, fantastic multiplyer game with all the best elements from Crysis, Halo, and COD made me think that if they paid as much attention to detail in the single player as they had in the multiplayer, I was sure to have a blast.

So far, it's not bad, but it's not a blast either. Not yet. They really haven't done anything to hook me yet. So far the plot is "Hey look, it's NYC! Hey look, you've got a nanosuit now! There are military goons and aliens everywhere, go kill things in the order specified by the nice voice in your helmet!" And then there's the AI the IGN review mentioned. In some situations I can splatter half a dozen guys with unsilenced weapons and a seventh five feet away is completely oblivious. When I cloak, they're very happy to either forget where I am, or edge toward where I was very slowly. I don't know about you, but if I see some guy kill one of my friends and then disappear, I'm showering the place he was standing with bullets, and then moving outward in the hopes of getting lucky.

I don't think it suffers all that much from consolization, though it did elicit a chuckle at how they'd fixed the 'Press Start to continue' screen, only to have the second screen you see talk about adjusting your TV. If anything I think the multiplayer benefited from the attempt to woo console gamers. It's disappointing that the graphics aren't something so advanced nothing we have can run it at full blast, but I don't think the franchise could have survived another bout of the backlash from that. People here would have just called it unoptimized anyway.

Speaking of performance, I have a single 480 and I play at 1920x1200. I put it in 'Extreme' and started playing. No fiddling with settings, no reading reviews to try and optimize settings, it just worked. Nice.

Anyway, that's my two cents. I'm a little bummed that the singleplayer hasn't reached out of the monitor and grabbed me yet, but on the other hand reviews are confirming that the multiplayer is every bit as fun as I thought it would be from the demo, so I think I'll still get many, many hours of enjoyment out of this title even if the singleplayer ends up being disappointing.

I think this is going to be debated a lot. I think Crysis 2 overall looks better and I've had Crysis 1 pretty much as maxed out on my sig rig. Textures don't look as high but the geometry looks better, vehicles don't look as blocky for instance. And this game looks a plays very well in 3D at the Extreme setting.

What geometry? It's just a bunch of square buildings. The jungle was way more complex.

So ... what's the word on what kind of DRM does this have? Do you have to register the CD key with an online account or just type it in when you install it? I need to know before I decide whether or not to buy it.

I played a bit of Multiplayer and the textures looked horrible in spots, especially distant buildings (Extreme mode @ 1920 x 1200)...I hope the single player is a lot better (graphics wise)

the default FOV is definitely screwed up too...normally that doesn't bother me but it's very noticable in this game

The default FOV is 55 but people say it's vertical and it translates to almost 85° horizontal. I doesn't feel right though. I needed at least 70.

Just wanted to note, I have a single 460 1gb and I'm running 19x12 with Extreme and I'm not having any issues and the framerate is extremely smooth.

The vehicles and objects in the environments look much more natural to me.

The helicopters look like they came out of a PS1 game. They are super low polygon and even lack an interior. It's just a hole inside it with flat sides.

Vehicles have much less detail, they are all angular low polygon things. There are no interiors either.

The maps and layouts are all just closed off tiny city blocks with square shapes and rectangles. The jungle was much more interesting and natural than this, especially with the fake windows you see on all the buildings and all the artificial obstructions that are even more obvious than they were in the jungle leading to more corridor shooter play.

The issue is the patch itself. Someone else reported the same problem. Apply the patch? You're screwed.

Now that I've sidestepped that issue, I'm about 15 minutes into the game. Doesn't look bad. I might even venture to say it looks...nice. Does anyone else notice that on the highest graphics setting, everything turns to molasses? Just feels like "smooth lag." The actual FPS is only 10-15 lower than the middle mode, and I'm talking going from like 55 to 40-45 FPS. Maybe it's something to do with multi-GPU or the lack of proper Crossfire support (I'm running the thing by renaming the exe to FEAR), but it's not a microstutter issue. Only visual difference I can see off the bat between middle and high is the use of AA.

Of course, if we had access to the console, could figure it out myself...speaking of which, anyone find where the damn intro movies are hidden? Must. delete.

the Multiplayer is also buggy in that I constantly have to re-enter my CD key every few games to play MP...then other times it tells me that my 'serial key is in use' and I have to exit and restart again...very annoying

Trivia about Crytek UK (formerly Free Radical Design) who made the MP portion; That's a strong pedigree IMO.

So, is the MP any good/better than SP?
Also; what's the SP length?

I'm playing at 1920x1200 extreme settings at around 50 fps. My only problem is multiplayer. It either keeps asking to enter my serial key or tells me my serial key is already in use.

For whatever reason vsynch on this game didn't pickup 120Hz for me so when I turned it off I got an average of 50 FPS in 3D at 5760x1080 on Extreme. Smooth, beautiful and fun. The is just a technical update of the original, nothing new in the SP thus far but for the haters I don't know what to say. This game is beautiful, definately looks better than the original, performs well at it'a highest settings and looks great and performs well in 3D Surround. I've not seen ANYTHING that looks better on the PC, 2D or 3D and plays this well. Period.

So is crossfire broken for this game? I was planning on getting two 6950s to get the most out of this game...

I've put in a few hours and the single player fucking blows. The level design is no different than Call of Duty, complete with tropes like enemies that can spawn inside of cleared buildings, doors that only open after you've killed certain enemies/accomplished an objective, extremely restrictive areas rife with invisible walls, etc. This game plays NOTHING like Crysis and Warhead. I'm a COD basher, but even those games have more entertaining single player. I got in on the Medal of Honor $7.50 deal yesterday, and I'd say I'm having more fun with that than I am Crysis 2 after a few hours in each.

A major problem is that the character you play as is a huge fucking pussy compared to NOMAD and Psycho. I blow through Crysis and Warhead on Delta with no problems except for a few alien sections, and I'm getting destroyed in this game on the second highest difficulty. Take a few hits and there's so much crap covering the screen that you can't aim at all. The main problem though is that Maximum Armor is now no longer the default mode. You have to turn it on, and it drains energy while on even if you aren't taking hits. The game does a terrible job of letting you know when your energy is low whereas Crysis 1 told you verbally. There is also NO maximum speed mode, and instead you lose energy just for running, which is slow as hell and roughly the same speed you ran in Crysis 1 without maximum speed. This game actually imposes a cost to run the same speed as your typical FPS, so you basically have no mobility when armored or stealthed because your energy will drain too fast. Enemies also detect you way easier when you are cloaked, and they can even see you through some walls/obstacles that should NOT give them line of sight. So my favorite part of being a master Crysis 1 player, pulling off the uncloak-headshot-recloak in a smooth motion that takes less than a second isn't even valid here because the enemies see you even after you recloak. The guy can probably take the same number of hits, but your options for conserving energy and dealing with enemies are a lot more limited.

So far it's like playing Call of Duty without the cool setpieces. I think even BFBC2 has better single player. Oh, and the first time I saw the aliens was a huge wtf moment...they don't match the aesthetic of Crysis at all and are clearly focus grouped for what 12 year old Xbots think is cool. The only nice thing I can say is that I like how you can now pull yourself up onto ledges, and holding the right mouse button to lean around corners was a good idea.

Seems that alot of people are having the same issue :/

Possible fixes:

Verifying integrity of cache fixed it for me. Try that.

Right click on the game in steam
Click properties
Select local files tab
Select 'verify integrity of game cache...

somebody just posted on the steam forums that a possible fix is to include the dashes in the serial key when you put it in; dunno if you guys have been doing this or not, but if you haven't it's worth a try.

there's a bug in the single player where every time I die and the game restarts from the previous checkpoint my melee button no longer works...I have to exit the game completely and restart to get back the melee function

Hah, that happened to me too but I didn't know what was going on. I thought I sucked or was pressing the wrong key. It's only happened once I think though.

I also had a bug where the red dot on the reflex sight totally dissapeared, so I had to try to kill people aiming through an empty square.

The newest application profile supposedly improves crossfire performance. Haven't played the game yet, so can't verify myself, but the latest profile does address this supposedly.

I tried re-logging to the game and noticed that my serial key has already been saved in the log in screen (It didn't before). And then I tried multiplayer and it worked as well. I guess they have already fixed the serial key problem.

I wonder if the Crysis 2 Demo config mod version 2 would work with the final game.
It created a batch file that you used to launch the game. It might work if you pointed it to the retail exe file.
The author said he would move the current version over to the full game a few days after release.
Here's the steam thread about it:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1776333

Here's the download link for version 2 that uses a batch file instead of modifying the exe file.
http://www.rush-zone.com/downloads/gaming/crysis-2/crysis2configv2/details.html

This is the batch file I was running it on: (1 is on 0 is off)

@echo off
cd C:\Games\Demos\Crysis 2\bin32
start Crysis2Demo.exe +cl_crouchToggle=1 +cl_zoomToggle=1 +i_mouse_accel=0 +g_skipIntro=1 +cl_fov=70 +r_DrawNearFoV=70 +pl_movement.power_sprint_targetFov=70 +r_motionblur=0 +g_radialBlur=0 +r_Flares=0 +r_Glow=0 +r_HDRRendering=0 +r_SSAO=0 +q_ShaderHDR=0 +r_ColorGrading=0 +r_MultiGPU=0 +r_MultiThreaded=1 +g_useHitSoundFeedback=1 +e_shadows=1 +r_FSAA=0 +r_UseEdgeAA=0 +r_TexMaxAnisotropy=16 +d3d9_TextureFilter=trilinear

The original Crysis looks SIGNIFICANTLY better maxed. When I started C2 I was shocked at the downgrades in the textures, which now look like a Call of Duty game. The effects look better than the average game but way worse than Crysis. Definite concessions in things like water, godrays, explosions, smoke...basically everything.

Really? The interiors in the original Crysis looked like ass.

Saying C2 has textures that look like a CoD game is pure hyperbole.

It's not a huge leap from the original but definitely not a downgrade.

The interior locations in Crysis were rudimentary, even for the day. They were like bombed out bunkers. What I'm seeing in Crysis 2 is easily ten times better... fifty times better.

Thanks for posting these pictures - but honestly, I've just spent two hours playing this title, and the game looks miles better in action, imo.

the original game looked better...I agree that the game looks better in motion but just look at the thread from the guy who posted pics of Crysis vs Crysis 2...everything looked much more crisp and sharp in the first game...the foliage (trees, leaves, plants etc) looked way better in Crysis 1...everything seems to have this haze in it maybe caused by the motion blur in C2

hopefully the DX11 patch will bring things up to speed but based on the DX9 version of Crysis 2, the first game is the clear winner

Well I just gave in and purchased the digital version from Amazon. I can't help it. Even if the game sucks, it looks amazing, and I just built a new PC.

well, I just bought the thing from steam :( yesterday I was surprised that most of my friends are buying it and planning to start a clan server so sorry my fellow haters.

I only played the demo for couple of hours, does anyone know if they did something about the mouse lag or blur? or if these issues can be fixed through some ini file?

I'm blown away.

And, respectfully, I completely disagree that the original game looks better than this. I believe that this is more of an art-direction thing than it is a debate about the technical merits of the game. The engine is mind blowing. Best looking game on the PC at present.

Damn, this title wasn't even on my radar. I just bought it tonight on a whim.

People won't be surprised to hear this from you. :D

I'm getting super tired of seeing people trying to be the first ones to find something wrong with a game - and you just see it everywhere nowadays. It's just this constant flow of criticism.

Rarely does it seem that gamers are excited by what they're playing these days - almost like they WANT to hate stuff.

And honestly, it's kind of funny that you wrote this, because there are two people who post regularly at this forum... and I mean everyday... who haven't said anything positive about any game in literally months. I mean, it's impossible to tell if they even like gaming. I kid you not, they've bashed... every... single... game.
