NVIDIA Next Gen GeForce Teaser

Im gona take a shot in the dark here but I'm guessing it's the best card they've ever build because it's faster than the last best card they've ever built.

Well....typically that IS how those things work...

New features might be nice, but that's more on game/DirectX devs to implement first.

What next gen... it's not Kepler, it's just going to be two Fermis on a stick.

So they moved on from showing fake PCB's with a cooler attacked by wood screws to a video with dates on them?

I think the wood screws are cheaper

That's the samething i was thinking it's the 590.Ahhh here's another thing you can blame on consoles people calling current gen hardware nextgen.

I don't think that's ever made sense to anyone.

Gotta love how nVidia's damage control tends to do more damage in the end.

lol, that video was pretty good.

Nothing like a military ammo box with "Top Secret" painted on it to really get the hype going!

The funny thing is i'm not sure if that box is long enough to even hold the GTX590..

I am hoping it is not the gtx590 and something new. Or if it is a gtx590 it has been heavily engineered and not just two gtx 570s on 1 board. I guess well see soon enough.

That box isn't even long enough to hold my 6970 in it at an angle, let alone horizontally sideways

The hot air, she blows!

I don't think it's the GTX 590. He said they had been working on it for the past two years, and I'm guessing it didn't take them that long to make that. The claim "next-gen" makes it sound to me like it's not going to be the 590, since it's built on current-gen technology.

Similarly, one of the interesting oddities of PC-gaming is how good-multi-gpu scaling can give you next-gen power, 'today'.

Realistically, if 7970 and 680 follows past trends, those cards will probably be maybe the power of a 6970 or 580 plus another 40-60% or roughly in that range. If it turned out to magically be 300% the power, that would be fantastic although very unlikely. If you purchase 'two' 580s today and SLI them, you'd also get probably another 40-60% over a single GPU 580. Therefore dual GTX580s are probably going to be pretty close to 680's power and therefore 'next generation's power. Marketing, isn't it wonderful for adding ambiguity and complicating things that could/should be simple?

Remember, the xbox 360 and ps3 are referred to as 'Next Gen' consoles still yet they very much are current generation consoles since not nearly as many people are buying PS2s/xbox 1s anymore and most people who are gamers wouldn't really consider someone with a PS2/xbox ....up to date..in terms of console hardware.

Don't get my wrong, there are still some good games for both systems and games continue to be released for the ps2. However, they are now 'last-gen' and xbox 360/ps3 have reached the market penetration they should be referred to as 'current generation' imo. If anything, I'd say the 'next gen' of consoles if your talking about performance is more than likely the current generation of PCs.

Sorry and about that two year comment. I didn't address that.

If look up "Fermi GPU white paper" on google. You'll find an article from HardOCP as the fourth link or so titled "nVidia's "Fermi" Architecture White Paper" back on September 30, 2009. It's now 2011 and nVidia likely worked on those white papers for a good 2 months or more before their release. So you could nearmost claim without a huge stretch of the imagination.... if the dual-fermi was their original 'dream' // 'wishful thinking' that they've been working it for the past 2 years give or take a month.

If your hoping for a 20-nm Fermi card with 4x the transistors or something rediculously positive, scale back your expectations or be prepared for disappointment. It's more than likely going to be 2 fermis on a stick. What would be really impressive would be a 3-4 fermi on a stick version but that's extremely unlikely.

If its not a GTX 590 I will walk into school naked.

hmmmmmm......something to do with an elephant. You saw the trunk on the ammo box too right? RIGHT??

Project Denver imo. With CTIA going on right now plus rumors of a super device which will make the Bionic and Atrix worth passing on.

it always suprised me how good the Voodoo 2 SLI was compared to the Voodoo 3 and even beyond.

infact the first T-buffer demo that 3dfx showed was using 4 or 6 voodoo2s in 4 or 6 way SLI.

It's a 590 in an external enclosure WITH power supply. A small card plugs into the PCIe slot and has a connector on the back that patches through to the GFBOX.

Anyone else think the DX11 patch for Crysis 2 will coincide with the debut of this card which is almost certainly the much anticipated GTX 590?

Would be even more lovely when only 5xx cards can use DX11.

I hope not. It would be a pretty shitty move by Nvidia and Crytek.
