Crysis 2 Most Disappointing Game of Decade?

Ok, I'm not saying it will be the worse game of the decade, but most disappointing. We're talking about Crytek, the inovators of PC graphics in gaming that started with Far Cry. Do you all recall the amount of upgrades or replacements that had to be done to the PC to run it? Good times.

Move on to Crysis, maybe not as ground breaking, but on the other hand, yeah...pretty much...it was. The game still holds a top spot in PC graphics...how old is this game???

And now the Crysis 2 demo. What the F. Yea I know, a demo and multiplayer, and things can be tweaked polished etc, but you know what the say about polishing a turd? Really at this point how different can it be?

I pray that I'm wrong here, I'll come back and eat my thread, but I got a feeling it's gonna be a tough March 2011 for fans of the previous Crytek games.

Going to go back and play BFBC2 to help me forget what I just witnessed.

This thread most disappointing thread of decade?

Ok, I'm not saying it's the worst thread ever, but it's definitely seriously lacking in quality.

Come on Zero really? Ha!

I know there are other sites about Crysis 2, but after playing the demo I felt the need to vent. Dang. I don't think it's that bad. And I think I can make the call the game will be a disappointment.

you were expecting what, like a new 3dmark to make everything crawl again?

I might be the only one but based on this post I'm not sure what you're complaining about. Graphics? Gameplay.... what exactly is the disappointment? Is it shitty multiplayer?

Please tell me more.

I'm just pissed the freakin' game's $60!

Wonder if I should cancel my Steam pre-order...

It's funny how lately every high profile game that comes out on PC is always declared the worst PC game ever. And by funny I mean pathetic. Ironic how the same people are bitching that no one wants to release PC games any more. Shocking

What really disappoint me most is the lack of advance graphical tweaks. The only game worse than that in terms of graphical tweak is Area 51 Blacksite, which has no tweak at all apart from resolution. But that game's a budget half-ass game anyway.

Its only fair that Crysis franchise is held up to a higher standard. Especially for its 60 bucks price tag.

I don't always have the luxury of running the best hardware and tweaking the graphic setting to my liking is something I've been doing since I started PC gaming really. Would be a shame if we lose that ability these days

Didn't say worst, said most dissapointing, and so far from what I've seen it will be. And if all the developer is going to do is port it, then I'd say leave it on the console.

Did anyone play the demo? Somebody asked why am I disappointed. I don't know, maybe:

Graphics (hopefully PC game gets more tweaks other than just DX11 in full version)
Gameplay (not SP but you get a feel of the movement and guns)
FOV (awful)

I feel like it needed a longer development cycle and more beta testing could have helped.

Which high profile games are you referring too? Have you ever been on a console centric forum?

The decade just started. Come back in 9 years.

Also, Duke Nukem' Forever isn't out yet. ;)

I'm still confused why they decided to release a MP demo and focus on that aspect. The multiplayer in the previous two was tacked-on at best. I couldn't care less about it this time around either. I'm more interested in the single player game and nothing in the demo really killed any expectations for me.

The full game hasn't arrived yet, and you're judging it based on a multiplayer demo?

Look, you might not be blown away by the multiplayer demo and that's fine - but calling the whole game (which you haven't played) the 'most disappointing game of the decade' is silly.

I'm not saying Crysis 2 will be good, live up to the hype, or anything; but don't judge something you haven't played.

I completely agree - it's all about SP for me in Crysis.

Im gonna give Crytek the benefit of the doubt on this one. I tried the demo, and it is a blatant port of the xbox one (probably because they had to smack one together fast to give people an alternative to the leaked version - I expect them to remove the shitty settings and autoaim, and put in DX11) - but, although I don't care much for the whole COD upgrade/customize/deathstreak thing, the demo played pretty nicely, I was entertained. For SP I hear they hired a good writer for the story, so it might be a good or at least decent one.

34€ on play.com, not too bad

I get the feeling the OP has been itching to post this since he 1st heard Crysis 2 was coming out. I don't understand how some people feel the need to stroke their ego or inflate their sense of self refinement by declaring something, Crysis 2 in this case, is not worthy of their approval.

All of the videos recently have been about MP. They are trying to sell the game on it's MP this time around because that's how CoD and halo get their sales. If they wanted people to buy it for the single player like the first one, we would have gotten that instead.

That's why the MP demo released on Xbox Live first. That is where all of the hardcore shooting games are and Crytek knew releasing on that service first would guarantee everyone would drop CoD and halo, which is what happened.

Going console first has put Crytek over the top and into the upper echelon of game developers. PS360 gamers the world over have been in line waiting for the game, especially after all of the complimentary things PC gamers had to say about the demo and leak.

I have to agree that the demo is crap. It feels like a ported console game. It has limited graphics options, dumbed down controls, and cryengine 3 apparently is a downgraded version of cryengine 2.

It's only a disappointment if your expectations are too high.

Seriously, it's just a game. If it sucks, move on. Really, you are no more qualified to make the call that it will be a disappointment than anyone else. Generally speaking, it is a good idea to reserve judgement on a product until the product is actually in your hands and has had an opportunity to prove itself or fail. A demo is not a final product. Many, many, many times demos are stripped down to conserve space. Demos are commonly released with reduced texture quality and incomplete UIs. I don't know that to be the case for this demo, but something tells me there is more to 'the real thing' than this little demo shows.

Maybe Crysis 2 will be junk, maybe not. Either way, we won't know until the game ships.

I said I'd come back and eat my words, but I've been through this too many times with demos. Could the SP be great? Sure, but I'm betting on it not being. I'm not saying it will be because like others have said, not out yet.

It's all about open world singleplayer for me. I realize it wasn't completely open in the first one, but the maps sure were huge. Going to a base could involve stealing a jeep or scaling a mountain. Half of the fun in that game was just exploring the glorious looking landscapes. Hopefully this one has the open "bubbles" that were mentioned a while back.

If this game really launches as DX9 only though... all aboard the fail boat.

Press Start To Continue.

What makes this worse, is the same wont ship with DX11....

Pretty fucking sad

Reserving judgement until post-release reviews are out is one thing. Reserving judgement until it is "in your hands" is another. That is exactly the attitude that is promoting the development and release of all this garbage at the expense of the development/release of quality games. If publishers and developers know all they have to do is release it and enough people will "reserve judgement until it is in their hands" at full price, why should they spend millions more on developing a good product, when only a small minority is going to say "demonstrate that this is a good product and I will give you $60." If only a tiny portion of people bought games (good or bad) immediately at release, while everyone else waited for professional/user reviews/demos ("demo" is a completely different term than "beta"), the entire landscape of gaming would look differently today.

Agreed, I find it very annyoing that people base judgement on a beta or demo, not the finished product, so all this thread is someone trolling... This thread = extreme fail

Isn't that still just a rumor for now? If it ends up being true then yeah, it's sad and I won't buy this game in that condition because that means it's an incomplete product.

The title of this thread: Jumping the gun a bit here aren't we?

I don't think this is trolling at all. I've been on this site long enough not to just throw out spam about this game sucks or that game sucks. Look me up, I don't do that. I just felt at this time I could maybe voice my opinion of the demo I played. I thought it was bad, not sure borderline bad either. Again, I know the game will be different when it comes out, but you really think that much? I love the work Crytek has done so far, that is why I am dissapointed, because yes, I expected more.

If this game was going to be free on release than no, I don't think anyone would have a right to bitch, but it's going to be $59.99 right?

This remind me of FEAR 2..

The demo is fun and scary, but the actual game is piece of crap that is worse than demo..
