Network Extender?

Hi everyone! I was wondering if you guys could help me out.

Recently at work we got a new internet provider (Clear). We installed the wireless modem/router in one part of the building where we get the best signal. However, by doing so we are getting spotty reception in the main office (2-4 bars).

I checked and the router is putting out its highest signal. Is there any way that we can put another wireless router in the office and then either connect wirelessly to that or just hard wire it to that router?
 
Your best bet is to get an access point (or a router configured as an AP, usually cheaper) and wire it in to the main router. If you use a wireless repeater, it'll inherently cut your bandwidth in half since WiFi is half-duplex.
 
If you get a wireless repeater to boost a muddy signal, all you get is a boosted muddy signal. A second AP where you need it is the better solution.
 
Thanks for the replies guys. The second AP cannot be hard wired to the modem/router....thats the initial issue we are having. Its not that its not possible to do its the fact that the modem/router is on the other side of the building.

There is a spot to put a AP in a different room and then have the office machines connect to that. How do I go about doing so and which wireless AP would you recommend?
 
You could put a few access points back to back so that the first one is close enough to get a good signal, its daisy chained to a 2nd AP which shoots down a ways, picked up by another AP/etc.. etc...

Well, I'd like to start with one AP and see how that goes and go from there.

Any recommendations on a good AP?
 
what specs do you require? B/G/N? 2.4 or 5ghz? how many users?

the Linksys WAP54G is an older model, but it can be found for under $20 and is extremely versitile with some new firmware. if you dont have a lot of users i would suggest playing around with one or two of these.

We will only have 3 users. We would require a B/G/N 2.4ghz AP.

Those look pretty cool. Do most people mount them on the ceiling or wall?

Once I purchase the AP how do I go about configuring it?
 
Ok, I found a used WAP54G here and agreed to a price. How would I go about setting this thing up?

I'm noobish on these things so please bear with me. Does the AP have to be plugged into the modem/router? If so, then I don't think that would work. I would like to connect the AP wirelessly to the router/modem and then either connect the 3 office computers wirelessly or hard wired to it.

Installed one the otherday, should have taken picture :( ( Talking about the 9550's )

They work great, configuring them is very easy too, the one i installed the other day was a repeater on the top level of the house, works SO GOOD, customers 2 xboxes play stations and WII's all work with them, along with the multiple laptops they had.

I swear by these units, they work very well.

They have 3 functions 2 of witch i use alot, AP & OR repeater mode.
