Lian Li A04 - New MicroATX case

The airflow would need a little tweaking. The biggest issue I'd have with that is the power cord sticking up out of the top of the case. You'd have to create another lid to go over it like the RV-02 to keep that clean look.

or just have an extension cord to the back of the case like quite a few of lian li's cases have. ;)

Just looking at it with the naked eyeball... a 120mm fan just isn't going in the back of this case with out heavy modification. A 92mm will fit with modification pretty easily.

I've just bought a SG05 to downsize my red PC-Q08 ... now to downsize my Mini-P180 ...

Although it would be kinda cool to fit my X58 Micro and 2 x 5870's into the NSK3480, it also suffers from not fitting my NH-U12P or the H50 from what I read ...

The NSK is quite a bit smaller than the A04 though, but I'd loose the DVD drive and not have any fans blowing on the GPU's ... and considering this is purely for gaming the fans on GPU's would be handy.

So time for a vote ... PC-A04 or NSK3480 ??

I will say that the A04 is made really well and looks really good. It's slimness is nice because it has a reduced foot print if you are using it on your desk which is what I am doing and I need space for all of my energy drinks and soda cans haha.

I still haven't tried my Cogage TS to just see how far out it sticks. Perhaps if I put a window I can some how make a bubble or something to fit a big HSF. That's not optimal, but I know that thing will run cool as a cucumber with the thing I really want it in there.:D

That's surprising that the NSK won't fit the NH-U12P. The A04 just barely won't clear yet it doesn't have the space to fit a 120mm fan on the back panel, but the NSK does have the 120mm. Maybe there's something I'm missing since I haven't taken a good look at it. I personally like the look and expansion capabilities of the A04, though I can see how one might prefer the NSK. It's also sort of funny that I say that cause I took out the middle A04 rack and moved the bottom rack into the 5.25" bay so it was pretty close to the same thing :p

The issue is that I have an EVGA X58 Micro and the CPU sits closer to the top of the board and so the heatsink hits the divider pannel between mobo and PSU. I think if I had a P55 board it would actually fit ... oh well. I do however know that the NH-U9B will fit as I used to have one of these on my previous 775 board with similar CPU placement (DFI LanParty Jr). I could also try a H50/60/70 but there have been mixed results from my findings with trying to get them to fit as well.

I'm thinking the A04 might be a better option as I'll get more air into the case and over the GPU's. Grrr ... I hate this constant need to stuff around with what I've got!!!!!!

Edit: Just so you get an idea of how much smaller than the Mini-P180 these other cases are (size in litres, measurements in cm, H x W x D):

Mini-P180 - 40.21 lt
43.5 x 21.2 x 43.6

PC-A04 - 33.38 lt
38.6 x 18.8 x 46.0

nsk3480 - 24.46 lt
35.0 x 19.7 x 35.6

The NSK is so much smaller but the A04 looks way more functional and still smaller than what I have.

Anyone know why these were taken down from Newegg (or was it just a sellout), and if/when they will ever return? Really would like to get one, but can't be found anywhere.

@frankle: I'd probably go with the A04 if you can find one. That may prove to be rather difficult though.

I wouldn't hold out for one right now. There's no word on when any might show up, if at all. Could be days, weeks, months, or never... If you've got another case you can use for now then waiting wouldn't be so bad.

Yuck...this certainly scares me. Anyone know why this occurred (sellout or recall?)?

wow.. Willister I just want to thank you again for the trade.. It looks like people really want the case right after they took it down.. maybe they wouldn't have taken it down though if all these people had bought it before though.

I don't see any reason for a recall, but I know in the past there have been times where cases sold out and didn't show up again for a while. Just words of caution from past experience.

No problem sir. Glad I could help ya out with your drive situation :) I managed to find a P67 board, but it's atx so I don't know what I'm gonna do with the V351 now LOL

I lol. See i5 you can find a trade for a good atx case for this v351. You find someone before I ship I can send direct to someone else

is noctua nh-c14 the best air cooler for this case, or are there other better options?

If I could have justified the price, I probably would have gone with that. Or possibly the other one that looks like it, forget the specific model. I think it's smaller.

Not difficult here in Australia ... several stores have stock

I'll need to finish my current downscale first, the SG05 turned up today so that'll be my job for the weekend ... next week I'll look at purchasing the case, and if they all go then I'll just wait, it's not as if my Mini-P180 is doing a bad job, lol.

What is your fan setup with the A04? I had been planning on two 1150 Scythe GT's in the front, one 1450 GT in the top and one Nexus 80mm in the rear.

The v354 isn't really smaller. it's just proportioned different.

v354 volume is 35.28 Liters
a04 volume is 33.38 Liters

So the a04 is actually smaller.

@bastage,
You made me get my calculator out! Yes, it appears you are correct.... I got the V354 for its proportions, but looking at the A04 now... definitely my next choice if not for the space constraints in my room.

Yea given the 2 I actually prefer the v354 because it is shorter. But since the a04 kinda presented itself where I could not pass it up.

Either you have different measurements than the Lian-Li site or you made an error in your math on the V354 volume

All measurements below are taken from the Lian-Li site:

V354 is (W) 245mm x (H) 320mm x (D) 420mm = 32.9 litres

A04 is (W) 188mm x (H) 386mm x (D) 460mm = 33.3 litres

AO5N is 210mm x 381mm x 490mm (W,H,D) = 39.2 litres

Nope same measurements I used.. But somewhere my math was apparently off. You are correct. So the v354 is 0.4 Liters smaller

soooo does 2x 80mm fit in the back?

if so i would want to get a new piece of metal for the back to do self holes

As I said on page 8, it should be doable, but it's a tight squeeze. The screw for the lid is right up where the top fan would be. 2x92mm definitely will not fit.

Zomg a TOTAL NO GO on the cogage TS. Stuck out by the length of the heatpipes coming out on top.

I don't want to beat that HSF down to make it fit.

HHmm... yea I am going to have to get creative. Though I did get an idea yesterday, to do it would mean more money /facepalm.

Figure, put a smallish 80-120mm fan adapter (Not sure if they have one from 80-120, 92-120 yes but 80 not sure. I do believe there is enough room to make a 92mm opening so it could work that way) on the back. place the Radiator there, and then work the wires inside on a Corsair H70. It might look strange, but I could even do a custom loop this way.

it eleminates the 80mm fan and doesn't take any additional room in the case. I still believe there is room for it inside on the top or front though, I'd probably have to get something along the lines of an H50 or H60 instead.

Hi,
just registered to share some info on the a04.
Currently building my new pc with it and a good cooler/fan combo that fits to consider is the Gelid Tranquilo. good reviews all around.
Will see how good it is in the case.

Wow! At 153mm that sounds like a perfect fit for the A04. I hope you're taking some pictures Xia :D

Nice!! I'd be interested to see that, please get us some picks!! Thanks for the headsup on it.

Pictures will have to wait has I'm not showing the build in its current state :)

But the cooler fits well, is close to silent and can cool a mild (for now) overclock of a i5 2500k

this case doesnt work with the lian li cd drive stealther bezel thing right?
due to the fact that it has those tooless things on the side?

I Think that the case has to be specifically made for that bezel. I Know the one in my q11 is attached way outside of the regular CD rom mounting.

Black is back in stock at NewEgg and if you received coupons in the mail for 15% off any Lian Li case, it wipes out the shipping cost with the 15% off.

wow.. Thats good news.. We will see how long it last's.. I Think I may be building a Matx gaming rig & I like the a04b so much for my server I wouldn't hesitate to use it for my desktop as well.

Just ordered it from Newegg and can't wait to build a new machine. I'm trying a Zalman 9900MAX to see if it'll fit. The fan size is 135mm, but the listed height of the cooler is only 152mm so I'm hoping it'll be a good fit.
