AMD has just released the new AMD Catalyst 11.2 drivers for Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP and Linux platforms. The new Catalyst Control Center features:

Catalyst AI Texture Filtering updates

The Quality setting has now been improved to match the High Quality setting in all respects but one; it enables an optimization that limits tri-linear anisotropic filtering to areas surrounding texture mipmap level transitions, while doing bilinear anisotropic filtering elsewhere. This optimization offers a way to improve filtering performance without visibly affecting image quality

The Performance setting has been updated to address the sharpness of the default Quality setting causing shimmering in certain cases. It now provides a smoother filtering option that eliminates most shimmering while preserving the improved detail provided by anisotropic filtering.

Tessellation Controls

Supported on the ATI Radeon HD 5000 Series and the AMD Radeon HD 6000 Series. New settings give users full control over the Tessellation levels used in applications.

The default selection "AMD Optimized" setting is intended to set the best level of Tessellation on a per application basis. The "AMD Optimized" setting is designed to help users get the maximum visual benefit of Tessellation, while minimizing the performance impact associated with enabling Tessellation. Currently no applications have been profiled.

The "Use Application Settings" option gives applications full control over the Tessellation level.

Users can also manually set the maximum tessellation level used by applications with the slider control

Morphological Anti-Aliasing support for the ATI Radeon HD 5000 Series

AMD Catalyst now includes official support for Morphological Anti-Aliasing for the ATI Radeon HD 5000 Series

Excellent. I'm getting my 6870 in a couple of days, perfect timing! Thanks Steve.

Ah very nice, looks like its time to move up from the 10 series drivers for me and try out MLAA, hopefully it wont crush performance.

11.1 -> 11.1x -> 11.2

Well, that was fast. I hope they fixed the files and version number that wouldn't update. I'll be downloading this once I reinstall my 6850. Thanks Steve.

Anyone know if these fix the OpenGL issue with older Q3 engine games?

Perfect! ;)

Anyone going to do a comparison from 11.1 - 11.1a to 11.2? Right now I am on 11.1a

I know its an older game, but UT3 REALLY plays smoother now.. It is noticeable! Great driver so far... Dirt2 should like these aswell

Is 'disable Catalyst A.I.' back yet? They're running out of time to put that back before the HD6990's release.

Why am I scared to install it? Did they fix the mouse pause issues? I have it downloaded, I think I will wait to see if they fixed the issues before I install it.

11.1 broke my system, lots of random restarts. Went back to 10.10, hopefully these work well.

I decided to run Heaven to see if it made any difference. It did not make any difference at all with FPS but while watching it does seem to be running smoother. Both tested the exact same & my CPU OCed to 3.497GHZ

Bah. Be careful. Might just be my system, but 11.2 just bluescreened my box and now won't install. Going back to 11.1.

Running Win7 Home Premium x64 with a HD6950/2GB

Even after getting rid of my 5870's last month, ATI is still producing crappy drivers it looks like...

I wonder whats the difference between 11.2 and 11.1a driver. The 11.1a driver been very stable for me so I'll hold off a few weeks before I bite to upgrade driver.

Looking at some of the 'resolved issues' and 'known issues' in the release notes, it looks like it might have solved some of my problems while leaving a few others wide open. A step in the right direction...but almost a year in with my 5870 and there are still issues?

Sorry for the double post there, thought I didn't post the first one and haven't figured out how to delete it yet.

ehh not good, did you clean out the old drivers with driver sweeper or driver cleaner. The drivers usually do fine just updating on top of each other, however in some occasions the OS gets confused in which driver to load and crashes the system.

Yeah, I have no problems with Either nVidia or ATI, both have been very solid for me. Looking forward to trying these on my 5770's, hopefully they'll improve performance enough to stave me from upgrading to two 6950's and moving the 5850's to the x6 machine.

I've used Radeon's ever since the Radeon 8500 and the amount of driver problems I've had I can probably count on one hand. I don't know, perhaps I'm very lucky using Radeon's. Nvidia has had it's fair share of driver problems. I wanted to get the Nvidia 460GTX, but unfortunately because compatibility issues with my Intel P35 chipset I couldn't get it. So to say Nvidia doesn't have problems is unwise.

Can anyone confirm if the Metro 2033 outside shadow bug is still an issue? Since 10.9, distant building / tree shadows have been stretched and seem to rotate when the player turns around while standing in place.

For the people having trouble, here's a funny one for you. My 10 year old nephew managed to install them on his Dad's computer with an unlocked 6950 over the 11.1a's and is back playing Dirt2 as I type this. :)

lol yeah drivers are just funny sometimes where success in running them varies between systems. It's pretty difficult for both Nvidia and AMD/ATI to make everything compatible with so many different hardware components out there. You aren't writing drivers for one particular piece of hardware, but 1000's of different hardware combinations.

Well, after some time with these drivers, im getting a BSOD that says "unconnectable hardware error" this happens after about 10minutes of idle and right before the monitor goes to sleep... Very strange

Thanks I'll wait for tomorrow's inevitable 11.2a Hotfix :D

/troll

Nah, with ATI, they usually release the hotfix *before* the official numbered driver.
The 11.1a hotfix was released before the official 11.1 drivers. ;)

Ok so i am new to ATI/AMD , have been Nvidia my whole PC life. Nvidia was always super easy, go to nvidia.com, have the site scan your system, it then says your driver is old or current, if old you DL and install and bam, done.
I am however not sure how updating drivers works yet on my new 6950. Do i have to go to AMD.com and input all my specs , see that Catalyst Software Suite is 11.2 instead of 11.1 and then download it all? Is that the way everyone does it? Nvidia was never so strong on the Suite part, (compared to AMD which seems to have their Suite and drivers update at the same time so you need to install everything) you just updated drivers and that was it so this is new to me.

(Btw to the poster who said "have you run driver sweeper?", is that something you need to do even when upgrading your driver on the same card? As in i always heard its best to clean your system of all drivers if you switch cards, but never heard of removing old drivers when your just updating them. Btw do you have a link for Driver Sweeper or Driver Cleaner? Thanks)

Another Question: When theres a hotfix, is that time you just DL the driver by itself or you download everything (Catalyst Suite package)?
