The U.S. government is cracking down on pirates that are rebroadcasting professional sporting events. The big networks say pirates are stealing their revenue and they have to pass that cost on to the consumer. Pirates say they rebroadcast live sports events on the web because the are "too expensive." Ugh, its a never ending circle that hoses the fans. :(

"The illegal streaming of professional sporting events over the Internet deals a financial body blow to the leagues and broadcasters, who are forced to pass their losses off to fans by raising prices for tickets and pay-per-view events," said Preet Bharara, U.S. Attorney in Manhattan. The Obama administration has promised to crack down on copyright infringement and counterfeiting, and domain-name seizures appear to be the preferred method.

Allow me to stream it to my HTPC. When it comes to sports, I don't care about commercials. Networks just keep hurting themselves.

I watched some NFL online when I was living outside of my teams broadcast area. I also watched the commercials so I don't see the problem there.

I don't really care about par per view but if I wanted to watch that stuff I couldn't afford it so maybe I would be watching online. It wouldn't impact the company though because I would do without otherwise.

Also, are they going to sue sports bars and seize them? Pretty much the same thing, and they profit off having people watching the games there.

They shouldn't have moved things like Monday night football to a cable channel.

Are you aware of how much it costs sports bars for their programming? Seriously, you should ask them, you will be shocked.

They should ban them from the Internet and Rise the price tenfold. See if people actually start going out and interacting with their neighbors, instead of being couch potatoes. And yes, I hate WATCHING Sports on TV. Doing them is another different story.

There's definite truth to this. I used to work for a bar and grill and this is the exact reason they didn't bother with the various packages.

We all can't play in/go to the Superbowl. Friends who don't even like sports at least watch that for the commercials.

I am getting sick of both sides of the argument. As a sports fan, I really wish the NFL would broadcast games over the web so I can just sign up for my team (Redskins) and not have to rely on DirecTV (NFL Sunday ticket) every year and pay for ALL THE GAMES!!!

Here is a simple solution, charge $5 per game on the web, so anyone can watch it. An Al-la-cart service is def in order for the NFL. People would pay through the nose for a service like that!!!

I think alot of this is coming from DirecTV. Give me a break.. they make it sound as if they would slash prices if they had more subscribers..

Call me clueless but can you explain for me instead of him?

I was forced to stream some of the last Blackhawk playoff games since they were not available on Dish. Fuck the networks and the games they play.

fuk the networks, especially with the recent blackouts and redistribution of who is allowed to show games and who isnt. also paying to see PRE-season games???

they can go to hell.

I can only watch one or two Dallas Cowboys games if I play by their rules.

first row.net FTW!

the nfl and the networks are a bunch of assholes...they can't even get together to give me more than 2-3 games on sunday when there are like 10+ games going on across the country. the nfl package is absurd with its pricing so that isn't an option. the only option is to find streams on the internet....but it sucks when you have been watching a stream for half of the game and then it gets shutdown and you have to scramble to find another source.

in a perfect world, i should just be able to go to nfl.com and be able to stream live every game. keep the commercials in there like a regular broadcast too. stop with the regional crap and give me access to all games. sometimes i don't feel like watching the crappy teams in my area when there could be a better game going on somewhere else.

it is just sad that they are giving the fans less of what they want....access to their product! what a bunch of retards...adapt or die!

Networks need to catch on to how the world works now, generation of revenue is changing.
Also, language check, my friends...

no no no...we should not have to pay extra to see any game! the nfl and networks make a ton off of commercial advertising and licensing deals. just let the stream be live and have it be the exact same as the tv broadcast with commercials!

i really don't understand why they restrict access to their product! the idea should be to get more people exposed, not less...

You'd think they could just spin this into revenue. "Hey, we have xx million people watching OTA/on cable, then have xx million more watching via online!" Imagine the selling point they could use to their advertisers. They could probably even convince Neilson to go ahead and count those in their ratings. If they would centralize it, and let you watch it on NFL, they could just track all the viewers and use that stat, too. But, instead, they want me to not be able to watch my team, the one I grew up with and still watch to this day, because I live on the other side of the country now.

Its the same stupid lostt revenue arguments as games.

I know people that stream sports games and guess what they wouldn't have gone out and picked up an HD Cablebox and signed up for sports channels just to watch those games, because its far too expensive.

The only reason I have an HDTV these days is to watch sports and i pay for it but don't assume everyone will or can afford it.

And I agree this regional blackout thing is Bullshit I only started noticing it now when I'm trying to view some hockey games, never saw that at all last year.

How about for people that happen to miss the event? God forbid you had something to do that moment.

I watch pirated streams because the NFl can suck a fat one if they think it's fair to black out sa game that sold 90% of the seats, when a nose bleed seat costs $60, and my cable provider doesn't provide any other option for me to get the games. So I either watch a pirated stream or I can not watch my team during a black out in my own home. Eat a fat one NFL.

I listen to <90% of Red Wings games via the web already (as I'm doing right now) perfectly legal. Additionally, Yahoo will stream some games from their website throughout the year. So it's apparent this can already be done legally. I'm not paying $160+ to get streams from nhl.com as I don't have any need to watch the other 29 teams. If I still lived in Detroit my access would be free. Why should I get punished because I don't live in the metro area anymore?

Start streaming the games, and we won't have to use alternative methods to watch the games. The site I use to watch games when I want is already back up with a .me suffix, so pulling this stunt has done nothing.

Dont you love how the US government is ran by major corporations. And it only gonna get worse.

it sucks, on sunday half the time only one game is on, and either you get sport talk instead of the game or you get infomercials... really they make more money on that crap? They keep raising the package deal prices for the networks. and some of the companies are total shit, comcast sells the nhl package, but it does not show in hd..... wtf comcast, it looks shittier than regular tv on a hdtv. hell some webcasts look much better. Id pay 100 bucks a package if they gave all the games, or maybe like 20-50 bucks a season for the team of your choice. some of the teams are shitty to the fans as well, the local hockey team does not charge for parking but the nfl team charges $20-$30 depending where you park.

Call me clueless but can you explain for me instead of him?

Venues like bars legally must pay a much higher rate as they are showing the broadcast to a much larger amount of people and as part of a for profit business.

Yes, the fact a PPV event costs like $50-60 to watch, or nose-bleed tickets at a football game go for $50 a pop (before you fork over $10 for that beer), is all due to internet stream.

My fucking ass...

Nothing to see here. All the sites are back up or in the process of returning under new domains.

So you don't think that the fact that the US Government went in an just took over a site's domain because it played judge/jury/executioner is OK?

Not at all. It is pretty shady at best. Just pointing out that it had no impact and will have less and less as sites preemptively seek out other domains.

Atdhe had a new domain up in like two hours, these seizures do nothing much at all other then offer one of the 'rah rah' photo ops to justify wasting hundreds of millions of tax dollars while real crimes (identity theft) run rampant. The reason they run rampant is because joe shmoe is the victim, and not one of the companies bankrolling political campaigns.

great to know our tax dollars going to shut down...sports streaming sites.

awesome.

Btw, myp2p.eu is still up. It's a very good site.

It's arguably one of the best. It features streams for almost any sporting event possible.

wait wait wait... what a giant load of horse shit from the cable companies once again. Why must they lose a buck and ALWAYS pass it onto the consumer? What a load of horse shit and greed that is with these MONOPOLY (only one in town) cable companies.... they are basically paying to be the only ones in town so they are usually the only price with 0 competition besides shitty phone companies.

Anyways, back to consumers, why do we have to pay? Its their fucking cost of business and their lack of business ideas thats costing them, NOT CONSUMERS so why do we have to pay for their cost of business? Total crock of shit.

Then to top it off, they SKIP COMMERCIALS TOO WITH DVR... so they can sell an item every month that skips commercials, but if someone pirates then they can just use that as an excuse to charge more? WHAT A CROCK OF SHIT, hands down. Glad I shafted those aholes at comcast, Man they piss me off  .... but hey, thanks for the free cable TV asswipes, you can't even disconnect services right!

Stop blacking out NFL games and I'm sure you'll fix 75% of the problem right there ;)

not even the NFL, I wanted to look at race from the 2008 olympics and (legally) that stuff is locked up tighter than a frogs ++++++++!
