For EATX, is HAF X my current best option?

I'm looking for a case to house my Tyan s2696. It's a bit hard to find a case which supports EATX so I figured I'd ask here.

Is the HAF X in my future? Or is there some other EATX case you recommend?
 
I've been told the NZXT Phantom is pretty good. My only experience with it though is I felt it looked nicer in person then in pictures.
 
I don't have any personal experience with it, but it's a pretty open case, 2x140 up front, 2 x 120 in the back.

and you can add some new top panels to it, or mod it for a 360/480 rad.
 
I think any full tower will be able to fit a E-ATX. My super-mid tower Lian Li v1110 can accommodate a E-ATX mobo.

You would think so, but some cases like the Antec 1200 are considered full tower when they barely fit an ATX motherboard width-wise... they can fit slightly taller motherboards I think ( more slots) but not wider ones like E-ATX.

Oh In that case the Haf X is one kick ass case, probably will be my next one. Though if you don't mind losing some Grommets, the Haf 932 should work just as well and save you some money.
 
I ordered the HAF 932 black because it was on sale with free ship. Hopefully it doesn't disappoint.
$120 to my door.
 
hmmm, i run a h70 and I don't remember this being a problem for me. I need to reconfigure my usb3.0 front ports now that i have a board with usb3.0 so i will check in and see if it a problem for corsair h70/h50 backplates.

Will update this later.

Also one of the nice little touches he didn't mention was that CM includes a USB 2.0 cable to 9 pin header that plugs in at the top pcb where all the front I/O ports are so that if you are running a mobo without usb3.0 you don't have to run the cables outside the back of your case in order to use those 2 ports.

Ah you use an Corsair H70 and don't have a problem, interesting because i wanted to use the same cooler but was fearful of buying it then it not fitting after viewing video.
So now i can buy in confidence that you didn't have a problem.
 
Well that problem appears to be only an issue with the 4-way SLI boards and the EVGA really only at that (supposedly the back plate hole fits for the gigabyte version).

Also this wouldn't really apply to the mobo the OP is using as Dual CPU setup it was never going to be wide enough for two full size back plates.

The hole Coolermaster is using is going to fit 95% of the boards out there but it can only be so big as any bigger and you start to lose mounting holes in the middle of the board.
 
I just popped my case apart to re-route my USB3.0 cables because the original motherboard I had in my HAF-X did not have USB3.0 and CM gives you a nice USB2.0 A-Type Male to Female 9 pin header cable to replace them so you don't lose any rear I/O ports and you plug them directly into the internal mobo header.

As you can see here (sorry for the blurry image, its half past 1 AM here and i'm exhausted) the Corsair H50/H70 (same piece for both coolers) Cooler backplate fits perfectly in my HAF-X with a Asus Sabertooth X58.

Great info thnx, but as you can see in pic the cooler is not situated perfectly, rather more to the left, yea i can understand it's fitted ok, but if you had a bigger air cooler it might be a problem maybe.
But i'm going to fit a new Sandy Bridge P67, when they re-release them that is, i just hope it's not the board that might be a problem and not the case.

Ya you have to remember that each platform and even motherboards in the same platform have different locations for the CPU. If i put my Asus AM3 motherboard in there you would see the CPU be more centered in the backplate cutout area. I also agree that CM could of made the whole a little bigger and easier for people that have big backplates from high end air coolers.

I'm wondering if a 4 way sli mobo like the Asus Maximus IV Extreme 1155 was the motherboard he had in the Haf X, maybe if it's a 4 way sli board that might make a difference in the positioning of the cooler?.:confused:

Doubtful the fan itself is the issue unless the back-plate extends past the screw holes. That review basically comes down to one thing the EVGA breaks just about every Mobo standard that has ever existed and made its own. As big a hole as the Haf-X has it shouldn't be an issue on most boards and the hole isn't made for centering the connector but to cover a vast range of motherboard designs. He thought his EVGA board should have been a basis for a back-plate hole because its an enthusiasts motherboard.

The list of mobo's that the back-plate hole doesn't work with can probably be counted on one hand, and may only be that EVGA. Because the similar Gigabyte doesn't seem to have that issue.
 
I really want to buy the Haf X to use with the Asus Maximus IV Extreme Intel P67 Express Socket 1155 Motherboard B3 when it's released, because my 2nd case option is the Corsair Obsidian 800D Black Tower but that's so much more expensive, so the hafx is my choice.

Honestly, if you're going to spend that kind of coin on a case, why not get a Cooler Master ATCS 840?

Fits E-ATX, removable mobo tray and is aesthetically pleasing... seems like a lot of win for $10 more

Its ugly for a start, Haf X is much better to the eye.
And it's coming up to 2 years old for the 840, the Haf X is an up to date case the same price of a 2yr old case, so why buy old for the same money as a new one?.
 
This is not the case. A good example is the RV02

The RV03 now supports EATX, if you want to look at an unusual MB layout. That HAF X is a nice case as well, and I would definitely consider that if I were watercooling. Plenty of room to work in.

Well if your watercooling, the Corsair 800D is so much better for that, the Haf X is better for Air cooling.
If your just going to use a Corsair H70 Hydro Series CPU Cooler or similar in the Haf X that's also perfect for that too, but for a full watercooling setup, i would go for the Corsair 800D instead.
