I just built an extra computer for my mother inlaw (OldMX's Mom), and we ran out of licenses for Office 2007 (Home and student, 3 boxes) and need a free office like suite, the choices are Free Softmaker Office and Lotus Symphony suggested by this site.

Any other suggestions besides those 2?

tia :D

Open office was on there. I have never really liked lotus symphony

I dont like OpenOffice because it needs java to run, damn...stil looking for options..

OpenOffice doesn't actually need Java to run, unless you want/need to use the database component or some (mostly useless) functionality in the other components: http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Java_and_OpenOffice.org

I don't think Java is anything to be afraid of these days anyway, if it's well written you won't be able to tell the difference from native code, at least on a modern PC.
